  1. Has anyone else found the Arnhem operation to be a bit too easy. My first and only go of it was VERY easy. On the first turn of the first battle I had overrun most of Arnhem's defenses, the bunker, the platoon on the left, etc. The puma was popped the next turn. I set up one platoon in the building on the right of the bridge, and three PIATs, one on the right building, two on the left. I set up the rest of my troops in a perimeter around my bridge defense, expecting more troops. That single platoon held the entire operation, and didn't take more than 4 casualties per battle, a total of 12 overall. I used all of my mortars, and my sharpshooters and FOs, and nothing else. None of my other troops were engaged at all. Is it just me or is the bridge just too difficult for the AI to attack across? The map is brilliant, of course, but I know Johnny Frost had a tougher go of it than I did. . .
  2. In my first homemade scenario, I basically just mixed a bunch of armor and infantry units up unrealistically and had them go head to head. Things I saw: 1) King Tiger immobilizes TWO M8s with a miss that landed between them. Same KT routs an entire platoon with one hit in between them all. Said platoon later rushed and close-assaulted the KT, forcing the crew to abandon it. 2) Another German tank, not sure which, fired a round at some infantry in a house, and the shell passed through the house and into a halftrack hiding behind it, destroying it! 3) A Jeep gets destroyed on the move, and rolls into a minefield, setting of a mine. The cool part is that the mine explosion killed some Germans pinned down next to it!
  3. Actually, my first time playing Team DeSobry, I held that hill on the right with a a pair of infantry platoons backed by a .50 and a zook team. I slaughtered a German force that tried to cross over it. I had just shot up the last squad when the game ended. Scenario two starts, and EVERYTHING I had in Noville is now outside of it, including the two platoons of infantry and support I had on the right. D'oh!!! I guess I'll try to push back in, but it's kind of annoying. I had that town held cold.
  4. Got it! Yes! I knew I had it when the mailman walked up with a VERY relieved smile on his face.
  5. Actually, in a Gold Demo PBEM of CE, I, as Americans, had just had most of my infantry wiped out by an AMAZING ambush in the woods by my opponent, so, in my anger, had my bazooka team fire on my little pen of prisoners. The zook shot until it was out of ammo, and managed to kill a platoon leader! Die, Nazi, die! Afterwards I sent them off-map.
  6. Gentlemen, I call your attention to Exhibit "A", his profile. Note his occupations and his interests. Ah, nevermind. Eye fele dume jest briging ti pu.
  7. "and their populations "culled" as appropriate." HA!
  8. I strongly agree with everything John has said. I'd like to see some varied smoke, such as thick smoke, light smoke and mixed smoke. That would make smoke unpredictable, and a less effective tool for the attacker. Also, I'd really like to have the ability to fire through smoke. Perhaps not at close range, I mean the smoke at close range, e.g. right in front of the firing platform, unless it was a prepared defense, e.g. VoT. Anything further than say 50m should be able to be shot through easily, especially if the firing platform was shooting at that target before the smoke popped.
  9. Well, nothing here. I personally think my copy has been here for a week and that mailman has been holding out because he hates my dogs.
  10. Well, there's always tommorow. What gaff says should be listened too, though. We'll snap eventually, rampaging south with Canadian Beer and Whisky and hockey sticks. Beware.
  11. Definitely seconded. Wild Bill's Raiders kept me in great SP scenarios until the beta demo came out. Oh, and I'd also like to thank Bill for liking the Pacific! I love all of those Pac scenarios for SP, not to mention a strong advocate of CM5: Pacific War!!!
  12. Wow. I'm in Canada and it ain't here yet. Who would have thought that the Atlantic was quicker than Customs!
  13. I'm praying it shows up today. I can play a foggy DYO night-fight or two, then take the manual to work with me.
  14. Today's gotta be Canuck day, guys. . .
  15. Hey, Capt., if you want me to, I'll host it on The Wargamer, too. ------------------ Jeff Fraser The Wargamer's Combat Mission Central http://www.wargamer.com/cm
  16. Scott, Dude, chill. Don't attack BTS because your's isn't there yet. I don't have mine, either. Your complaining is not getting you the game any faster. Don't worry, it'll show up soon.
