  1. You know, I'd much rather have my copy of the game a day sooner that have it autographed. And I don't want it boxed! All I want is the CD Case, CD and manual. GIVE ME THE GAME!!

  3. I'd be happy to proof read. It's kind of mundane, but, seeing as I'm just beginning to learn about all of this grog stuff, it's about the only thing I can contribute. Let me know if you need me. jeffraider@yahoo.com ------------------ -- Jeff Fraser VIVA LOS ZAPATISTAS
  4. Awww, shucks, pa. Don't start that again. Keep on truckin', Matt. ------------------ -- Jeff Fraser VIVA LOS ZAPATISTAS
  5. It's pretty damned good. I had a hell of a time beating that first major battle. Seemed like my cavalry wasn't as fast and my troops not as strong. Did you have any luck in that one platoon on one platoon scenario, light samurai versus spearmen? I could never kill more than five or six spearmen with my light sams before being over run.
  6. I wargame because it's the best damned game there is. There's nothing that requires more cold calculation, gut intuition and killer instinct. It's like playing chess on an ever-changing board with ever-changing pieces, which have different abilities depending on the year.
  7. Just a word about SPR. I'm surprised you didn't go nuts over the fact that Omaha beach was taken in only thirty minutes. SPR is supposed to be a very entertaining war movie. And it is. What it's not is a primer on infantry tactics, and shouldn't be taken as such. To do otherwise is idiotic. ------------------ Jeff -- "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." -Henry Louis Mencken (1880-1956)
  8. Looking at screen shots, I had thought the explosion graphics were kind of lame, but all that changed the first time I had the camera directly behind one of my Shermans, just as an 88 knocked it out. Never jumped off my seat in a computer game before!! [This message has been edited by JeffRaider (edited 01-25-2000).]
  9. (Levels his Garand at Fionn, grim smile plastering his face. . .) Spill it.
  10. ARGGHHH!!! What is the workaround? Don't be coy, damn you! <Levels his M1 Carbine at Fionn>
  11. Los said: 6. No XOs or staff officers but there are work arounds to create multiple leader groups. Cool! Can you say more? Fionn says that I won't have much use for Co. XOs and Bn. S-3s, but I'm sure I can find something for them to do. . . The CM-scale, as I understand it, is perfect for modelling Battalion-level fights. Wouldn't S-3s and Bn. XOs be a good idea here?
  12. I'm currently reading Balkoski's Beyond The Beachhead, 29th ID In Normandy. I've got lots of questions, now. Some CM-related, some just my personal curiousity. 1) Why is there no J Company in American Regiments? 2) I notice that in the book Platoon HQs have five men, but in CM they've got four. The book is reflecting the US 29th Div, and the German 352nd Div. 3) That leads to another question. In scenario design, can we rename units/change number of men/change weaponry, to reflect battle damage? IE, can I have squads already down to half-strength at the beginning of a scenario? 4)That leads to yet another Q. Are individual units modelled, IE, can I have a historically accurate representation of the 29th ID? 5) Balkoski says that the typical German infantry company has 15 MGs, but I only count 14. 1 for each squad(9), platoon HQ MG(3), and the company HQ HMGs(2). 6) About commanders: Are company/battalion XOs modelled? Can we at least split the Company HQs and Battalion HQs? What about battalion S-3s? 7)Any chance of tactical ammo redistribution? In Riesberg two of my squads were nearly out of ammo, but my third squad was nearly full(plt reserve). Surely this sort of ammo resupply is not unrealistic at the CM-scale? Thanks for listening!! Can't wait to hear some responses!!
  13. A semi-related question: In the beta demo, when picking the scenario, a Windows Open File screen pops up, and we select the actual file. Has this been changed into a more smooth interface? Will we be allowed to read the overview of each battle with one click, like the SP series? ------------------ Jeff -- "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." -Henry Louis Mencken (1880-1956)
  14. "As for the rest of you folks out there in TV land, don't egg him on." Guess that means me. Sorry, you're right. Won't happen again. ------------------ Jeff -- "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." -Henry Louis Mencken (1880-1956)
  15. Schrodi, I'm going to suggest something to you. If you dislike Fionn so much, why don't you go ahead and be the bigger man and ignore him? There's my advice. Here's my personal response to you. You're a real asshole. Not someone who merely disagrees with another, but just a plain, unfixable asshole. I pity you, really. I know that you'll probably meet this post and the others with some sort of witty(in your eyes, anyway) comeback, so my pre-emptive rebuttal is this: Bite me. ------------------ Jeff -- "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." -Henry Louis Mencken (1880-1956)
  16. Alas, For years, YEARS mind you, after picking up SP1 for $10 canadian in a bargain bin, I've played the Steel Panthers series. Every single game for it, most of the scenarios from the Wargamer, ALL of Wild Bill's outstanding scenarios, not to mention the rest of the Raiders' contributions. I've spent hours downloading game variants, such as SP2WW2 and SP:WW2 on my former modem(a 14.4, I'm on cable now). I remember bragging to friends who spent $100 bucks a week on the newest FPS and RTS games, only to play them for a week and move onto the next one, that I have only invested $50 bucks for the SP:Arsenal set and love, and in return received hundreds of hours of tactical warfare at its best, or so I thought. Then you miserable SOBs from the BTS come along, and MURDER my SP!!! <SOB> Oh, damn you. Damn you straight to heck. Did you really think I could go back? DID YOU???!!? With the release of your cursed beta demo, you just as surely pulled the trigger on my dear friend, SP. Now you HAVE TO release the game, lest I explode. P.S. The above paragraph was entirely in jest(except the part about releasing the game, I mean, no rush, take your time), so please don't take offense. I love you guys!! ------------------ Jeff -- "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." -Henry Louis Mencken (1880-1956)
  17. Schrodi, you should stop being so offensive. Just some friendly advice. Moon, how about allowing schreck teams to run(don't worry, I'm not a "schreck-should-run" zealot), but making them get tired and weary much more quickly than an infantry squad? I'm not really sure what I think about this issue, but I do know that you guys should NOT be insulting one another. ------------------ Jeff -- "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." -Henry Louis Mencken (1880-1956) [This message has been edited by JeffRaider (edited 12-08-99).]
  18. jeffraider@yahoo.com I'm game for anything. . . ------------------ Jeff -- "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." -Henry Louis Mencken (1880-1956)
  19. Doh!! Mixed up, yet again. I would have done it right the first time, but I can't get ring of gunfire out of my ears. . . ------------------ Jeff -- "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." -Henry Louis Mencken (1880-1956)
  20. Two cool things have happened in the last day. 1) In LD, two of my M4s were taken out by that pesky 88 on the left. Enraged, I sent the two unhurt crews around, running right up the extreme edge of the map, after several weariness stops, they attacked the gun, appearing 20m in front of it, scaring the crew of the gun enough to abandon it! Well, my crews hunted down their crew with a vengeance. YES! 2) In Riesberg, I killed all four HTs with 60mm mortar fire! I love it!
  21. For sake of keeping my interest in CM going, I have been playing the two scenarios in the demo with limitations on what I take. I was playing Last Defense as the Germans, minus the three tanks. Now THAT is a challenge. Turn Ten just keeps looming closer. . . Anyway, my lead platoon was making good progress and was really killing a lot of allies, when they became low on ammo. I could have pressed them and nearly wiped out the US infantry BEFORE the damned Hellcats arrived, except my lead platoon was near useless. Are there any plans for Ordnance Trucks or ammo troops for the final release? ------------------ Jeff -- "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." -Henry Louis Mencken (1880-1956)
  22. How about adding rally points for platoons? For example, in Riesberg as the Germans, I like to have Meister's Platoon forward, to nail the first Yankee tank that rolls down the road. After I kill my tank, or two tanks, if they even come down the road, I normally lose Meister's HQ, Lead Squad and AT section to an infantry wave attack. Now, I know I could pull them back, but that position is great for killing lots of infantry before I lose most of that platoon. What I would like is the ability to set a rally point, where broken units of that platoon will automatically go after they can't fight anymore. Anything like that planned?
