  1. Not a bad idea, but is it that important to have. Reinforcements arrive and player's use them according to the situation at hand , shoring up a line or immediately attacking. Often I've had reinforcements show up in surprising places and due to the ebb and flow of battle they may show up just as an enemy force has passed and the reinforcements have clear LOS on the enemy's rear. Point is player's will do what they have to do when forces show up and having a note that more reinforcements are coming takes some of the surprise away. Playing your Chinese Cracker's as PBEM and it's a hell of a blast. This is a good battle and you shopuld send it to the Scenario Depot, I'll send you a AAR if you want? Have you tried any of the ones I ent you? All best Patrick
  2. To clarify- To replay the movie as needed. Patrick
  3. Small battles are fine and intense, but I still like the large battles for the scale. It really gets you thinking about how strategy can be screwed up on a tactical level and that adds to the excitement for me. True it's easy to lose sight of individual units but you can always replay as needed. Patrick
  4. No that also happens on Macs also. When you're doing a group order you can only give one order for the whole group. Additional orders are then done individually. All best Patrick
  5. How many of you out there prefer large to huge scenarios vs. medium to small battles. I prefer large battles/maps because I like playing with large forces and large maps have potentialy more strategic/tactical options. What's your opinion?
  6. Over at Admiral Keth's Scenario Depot are several scenarios and one operation based on a what if situation if the campaign in Italy had continued up "the Boot". All of the scenarios are on the scale of huge and the maps are very intriguing. Check it out or you can get it direct as a zip pack of 5 battles with a campaign map designed by Marco Zamparini (graphicpro@intercom.it) or myself (lucero1148@pacific.net.ph). Marco and I co-design this series and would be happy to get any feedback. Cheers, Patrick
  7. Hilo, Hawaii now residing in Manila. Not many of us from Hawaii or Asia it seems.
  8. TOOLS4FOOLS Far as I know I'm the sole CM player in Manila. If it wasn't for the PBEM/TCP feature this game wouldn't have gained such long lasting popularity. Most of the guys I've shown the game too are quite impressed but most seem intimidated by the learning curve. Well its not a point and shoot game is it! How's Bangkok? Girls treating you nicely there for a drink or 2 I'll bet. Cheers! PS. Everybody on this board is addicted,
  9. Considering that there are almost 8000 registered players on this board it might be safe to say 1.5 x's more CD's as a callculated guess. So if they sold 12,000 copies that's pretty good but not a hell of a lot compared to other game genre's. So far I think they've gone through 3 press runs so that's at least 15,000 copies so far made. Living in Asia I can also say I've not seen any pirated copies of CMBO for sale in my neck of the woods although I've heard there were some in the early days after it was originally released.
  10. Well if ever I get up there I doubt that I'd recognize the place. Pudong was just being constructed then and there weren't many places except FEC bars to hang out in then. Likewise if you're ever in Manila seeing that your wife is from here send an email and I'll have a few San Migs waiting for you. Marcus I'll have to show you some of the new bars Murray and I have been frequenting. Al best Patrick

  12. Marcus and CDIC, It's been a good 10 years since I was last in Shanghai so if I've got the bucks to do so I may join you all for the meeting in Shanghai. If I remember right the US embassy had a weekly get together Thursday nights for beer and hotdogs, does that still happen? Which bar are you hanging about, the one I remember is the Long Bar in the Portman? all best Patrick PS. In Manila there aren't any CM player's either until Marcus comes over to double the population.
  13. I agree if it weren't for the mod makers CM wouldn't be as visually exciting. Now that I've got myself a real graphics card I can appreciate all the creativity and hard work the mod makers have put into their designs. Prior to that my CM video's looked like cartoons. Tools4fools, Don't forget to bring your last file of our game. I believe I should be pouring into your defenses so put on your chasity belt and get ready! hahaha, Patrick
  14. Tools4fools Howdy are you still snug at home or on the way to Mandalay? Patrick Pvt. Ryan I was joking too, but I'll send you a set up. All best Patrick
  15. Pvt. Ryan, Really? We should play I could use some cheering up! Patrick
  16. I also thank you. It's always good to be able to get some informed dialog on these tech problems. All best Patrick
  17. If I remember correctly the average Russian is quite ignorant about the Allied contribution to winning the Great Patriotic War. All best Patrick
  18. I'm using a 233/G3 with 512MB's of RAM and 128MB's allocated to CM. I also just installed a Radeon PCI card and it's made a world of difference in how the game appears. I think the problem now with this scenario is that on this particular turn where it starts corrupting the file maybe due to the fact that both sides receive substantial reinforcements at the same time. We've replayed this turn about 4 turns now and it's been frustrating but a blast. Since we're playtesting its not a big deal since it's funny watching how CM history gets to change a little each time. Still each time the turn plays out the game crashes at the end of its turn processing cycle. Our files at this stage of the game has ranged from 135k to 3MB's. Both sides have about 6,600 vs 6,800 points and 3 reinforcements on a huge town/country map. We are going to start from scratch to see if by changing the reinforcement arrivals will make a difference and allow the game to process the files correctly .
  19. Yes using VPC 4.0 will be a lousy experience even if its got Win ME. For one I believe you'll be limited to use only 128MB of Ram when VPC is on and emulating the Windows OS. I've got VPC 3.0 and I've played Close Combat series games on it ok but the graphics are much simpler than CM. VPC will not use your graphics card installed unless it also has the windows driver enabled. So you then a video card for VPC Windows and another for Mac OS use. To make it worse your visual experience in CM on VPC will be awful. All best Patrikck
  20. I was beginning to think it was stuffit that was corrupting the files since it is only reccommended to compress files up to 2MB. These files started to get corrupted when both our reinforcements shows up at the end of turn 25. This may mean we'll have to make some changeson how our reinforcements are scheduled. Thank you for your insight. All best Patrick
  21. I don't know but this sounds similar to what I'm suffering with the files my PBEM partner sent me on a scenario we are playtesting. Huge map with reinforced battalion size forces on both sides. The only difference is that we're both using Macs while your'e using PC's. Maybe the CM drivers can't handle the production of the instructions correctly which is why the files get corrupted. At least it seems logical. Any ideas MadMatt?

  23. Well I've zapped my pram and that also did not do anything. Question is why would the program start issuing addled instructions in the first place. Short of replaying previous turns any other suggestions as to how to fix this?
  24. Oh yes I forgot: RDCM@yahoogroups.com Patrick
