  1. Alright, please lets stop this now. No need to stir the fire. I apologize for adding to the possibility in my first post. PLEASE LETS LEAVE THIS RIGHT HERE! No more posts on this subject. Many thanks for your assistance. Karl Mead
  2. but I like kippers! Hi Matt! Hi Kwazydawg Steve, how good to see you! I went and counted the problems from the last 20 days, of 34 issues of the type Dave mentions, 24 were Win (@70%) 10 were Mac (@30). If 25% of sales are Mac then Macs are over represented in problems, so I guess Maximus is right, Macs are pieces of schtoot. By the way, the resolution to the problems are very similar for both platforms. On a Mac a simpleton such as I can answer the questions, for the PC Schrullenhaft dives, and I mean deep, into helping those in the Win area (he also is excellent at answering the Mac questions). He deserves a big hand. Thanks. Post edited by me to delete poorly thought through typing. [ 04-18-2001: Message edited by: kmead ]
  3. You can choose to run the latest Game Sprockets with the older Sound Sprocket which gives better soundquality in CM (the burning tanks/buildings won't be so overpowering). Your resolution switching or whatever is going on is unusual. Does it occur after the game has been running but the computer has been asleep? I have seen corruption of the apps after waking that were running before the machine slept. The solution you found of shutting down and restarting seems like a pretty painless solution. The quitting thing, how much memory do you have and how much is allocated to CMBO? Low memory allocation often causes unusual behavior in the game. Generally I double the standard max allocation in the Info:memory box. Your message is just fine, not to worry. Just hope we can help.
  4. While the cat is out finishing CM2, the mice sure like to play.... Hi Mom!
  5. Given that it was made on a Mac, thats hardly surprising . I run several apps that are faster on a "slower" Mhtz Mac than they are on a considerably "faster" Win NT box. (450 G4 16vram, 600 PIII 64vram). There are no sales figures available, although several conjecture threads have come and gone over the last year. There is likely no way of knowing how many Mac vs Win copies were bought since the CD is dual platform and many of us do run it on both, myself included. I was very pleased that they chose (for good economic reasons, 1 CD either sale) to go this way for this very reason. Maximus, this is not a challenge nor a time to begin the general flame war you are always hankering for on this subject.
  6. Honestly have not had the problem and I use ambushes with regularity. I find that units will sometimes ignore the ambush marker and fire on the unit if it is nearer than the ambush marker or poses a real threat. Feel free to send the turns to me when your net access returns. My mail is up there in under the Rolodex card. Thanks Oh and please turn down the vitriole, people are much more likely to be interested in what you have to say when you approach it in a little kinder and gentler way.
  7. Dear David: Yes they are and please butt out. As in keepout of Mac related stuff. His problem was solved fairly easily, he merely did not have the correct drivers for his video card. For your information 90% of the time the ONLY thing we have seen is that people have trouble with the ATI graphic card drivers. Getting the latest ones cure the problem without having to reload your drivers from companies X, Yand Z to get one that works with your card after loading the latest version of DirectX ver whatever. Matt has given you several warnings, don't push stuff like this, it just isn't worth the trouble. You are a valuable member of this community, you have created several mods that many do appreciate. We would be less without you so stop trying to live up to the less than sterling reputation you have created for yourself. Thankyou Edited by kmead to remove some ill considered statements that might be misconstrued. [ 04-17-2001: Message edited by: kmead ]
  8. Yes, most of us noticed it immediately after the Great Forum Drought of 2001 was abated by incredible force of will by the Gnomes of the Board tm, as we scurried around looking in all the new cupboards and what not. In fact I posted the same lame info not long after... Umm about that search function....
  9. Did you do a full install? If you do a full install of all the files needed for the game, it should only need the CD at startup and should not require disk access after that. You can use a disk image and if you do a search you can find sources for that for MSW and MacOS. No there is not CD Crack and no one here would advocate one.
  10. Got me, never heard nor seen the like...
  11. Ok Maximus, you have certainly met your match, and I enjoyed him so much that for now I have added his quote to my sig... Man that kid is a jerk, jeez... LOL Thanks for the belly laugh!
  12. I'd email it but its 3.9mb. The installer is for just the Open GL update is at: http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n11545 Sorry that the other info didn't do it. I truly hope the driver takes care of the problem. Apple itself is a good place to get updates and so on at: http://asu.info.apple.com/ Good luck [ 04-16-2001: Message edited by: kmead ]
  13. Just looked that way yesterday morning, but then it was fixed a bit later... hmmm funny how that happens, I wonder what elf runs around cleaning stuff like that up.....
  14. First, you need to have the picture in a place on the web where it can reside, such as Photopoint or another hosting service (if you have a Mac you can use your iDisk). To add a graphic within your message, just encase the URL of the graphic image as shown in the following example. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> [ IMG]http://www.infopop.com/artwork/footer_logotype.gif <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I have added an additioinal space after the first bracket so you can see the code. Which will get you the following with out the extra space: In the example above, the UBBCodeâ„¢ automatically makes the graphic visible in your message. Note: the "http://" part of the URL is REQUIRED for the code. Also note: some UBB forums may disable the tag support to prevent objectionable images from being viewed. This is found in the UBB code in the FAQ located in the upper right corner of the forum in little teeny letters. The UBB info is a bit buried now, but is found here: http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=ubb_code_page I hope this helps. [ 04-16-2001: Message edited by: kmead ]
  15. First, from the CD or the update you can download form BTS for 1.12, install the new video drivers for ATI OpenGL 1.2.1. This has fixed the problem for nearly everyone. I have never had this problem but many have. In addition, when using CMBO have virtual memory off, @60mb (or morre if you can) of ram allocated to CM, and before you start the program (CMBO) but after doing the above, trash the preferences file for CMBO in the preferences folder in the System folder. A new prefs file will be created upon start up. Also before starting CM set your screen resolution to 1024x768. If things still persist, junk the prefs file again and set your screen res to 800x600. If that doesn't work, I would trash the existing CMBO you have installed and install a clean version from your original CD or as a download. Don't forget to trash the old prefs file before starting up. I hope this works for you, it seems like the video drivers should take care of the problems. Good luck and update us with how these steps worked for you so we can better help others. Thanks [ 04-16-2001: Message edited by: kmead ]
  16. Umm, yeah. Glad that simple suggestion helped. Enjoy your time with the game, your life is about to change in a big way (no time to do anything that other people want you to do ) Good luck
  17. Matt, the graphic for Battlefront in the left corner appears to be corrupted.
  18. If you both could provide some details for your systems that would be a start on helping us to help you. The actual OS and version; your graphics card; the driver versions for your graphics card; the amount of memory your computer has; the amount of memory assigned to CMBO; the direct X version and any unusual things you have added to your system. Chopakokov, are you experiencing any other text problems? This may be a graphics card driver problem solvable with the drivers that come with CMBO 1.12. Thanks.
  19. Just trolling through old tech problme posts and found: Originally posted by timk: I found the issue with I had with CM; it turns out to be related to the Energy Saver control panel. Without the control panel enabled, the Mac would go into "sleep" mode; with it enabled, i was able to turn off hard drive sleeping etc. No more lockups experienced; on a related note, the cache disabling did not work. and REVS Both my iBook and iMac won't return to CM after they have gone to sleep. Other programs open at the same time have no problems re-opening, and if I re-open one of these other programs after sleep, then try to open CM, it still crashes. The ibook is on OS 9.04 and the iMac on OS 9.1. Apart from that everything else is pretty much identical. Is anyone else experiencing these Mac crashes? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | IP: Logged Schrullenhaft I'm not sure who posted it, but I've heard of some people having problems with the sleep functionality and CM on the Mac. I don't know how well sleep capabilities function with the game APIs out there. For a desktop app that isn't really doing anything, sleeping is no big deal. For a game, such a pause can come at a very bad time during computations. Do you have the same problem trying to open CM if it were at one of the scenario selection screens rather than in the game itself ? I'd guess that any other full-screen game may have similar problems trying to go to sleep and then waking up with out crashing. [ 04-14-2001: Message edited by: kmead ]
  20. caralampio, junior member, your number will appear after you post or you can look at your profile up there at the top or you can click on the little roledex card thingy on any post of your or any other post. Which shows my number here on this very silly thread. My number would be lower but for my lurking nature for the first 6 months I spent on this board.... [ 04-14-2001: Message edited by: kmead ]
  21. Speaking for the low systems on the totem pole I hope the textures will be of the same res as the current ones. All of the mod sluts will want there own , as the game ones are never to their taste anyway Seriously, there are still going to be lots of users without great video cards. One of the great things about this program has been that the textures are modable, there seem to be alot of people that want to make it as custom as they can. Please keep it to a point that low end users can still run and enjoy the game. Many thanks.
  22. Making CMBO run more reliably is usually fairly easy. I assume you are running OS9.04 or 9.1. If you have 9.0 I would upgrade to 9.04, 9.04 is generally a stable OS and OS 9.1 has been greatly improved, to install the latest version you will likely also have to update the firmware using an installer from Apple. At the moment I would just upgrade to 9.04. In any case, OS9xx uses alot of ram, if you don't have 256mb of real ram, I would buy some. It can be very inexpensive and take less than two minutes to install. OS 9.04 alone is using up most of the ram you have, leaving very little for any apps. I bought some PC133 256MB chips recently as low as $89 at Best Buy. WWW.Ramseeker.com is a great place to buy ram at the lowest prices. Before you buy more RAM, get a guarantee that it will work with Apple's ROM upgrades. There have been alot of horror stories of some RAM not working because of timing tolerance issue once you do an upgrade. The first thing I would do is shut off virtual ram as it can be problematic. I would also go into the preferences folder in the system folder and toss the CMBO preferences file and let the program make a new one. To adjust the memory allocation for CMBO, hold the control key down and click once on the application icon, a window will open and drag down to memory. Leave the lower number alone and double the larger number if you have enough ram. To trash your preferences, open the system folder, find the Preferences folder, open it and take the Combat Mission Bynd Ovr Prefs and put it into the trash. When CMBO opens again it will make a new Prefs file. I would run the latest video drivers Open GL 1.2.1 which come with the latest CMBO download, they fix the text problems that have plagued some MacOS users. BTS put them in for a reason . Some people have had trouble when Netscape is open at the same time. I run Outlook Express 5.1, IE5.02, and CMBO all at the same time with no problems (lets me immediately play out PBEMs and surf the board ) Van_Gogh did the following: 1) changed the desktop picture from a 3D pic. to a standard 2D pic. 2) trashed the preferences for CM and forced the game to create new ones and has been running fine since. Gyrenes suggestion about sleep in general is an excellent thing to do, I have also found a number of problems with sleep modes. Sleep is controlled by the Energy Saver control panel (found in the Control Panels folder under the Apple Menu) click on Show Details button to configure more details. When running CMBO you will likely want to run with Hard Disk sleep set to Never. My primary suggestion is to install more ram, this tends to be the single largest problem in running the game. If that doesn't resolve your issues there are a number of other things that can be done, they are just a bit more involved. Good luck and keep us informed

  24. Well now I can have my iMac on the coffee table with my feet up, Airport connection, with my beer in my hand and read the forum while sitting back. It is definitely something I can live with.
  25. Great improvement on the visited/unvisited. The font is a bit big for me but it is easy to read. Many thanks
