  1. QB - November 1943, Meetting engagement. Computer assigns me 5 ValentineII, 2 T-70, BA-47 and a Sherman. I am enraged! Whats with this selection - I am playing Soviet not UK! How am I suppose to take out PzIV, Panter or Tiger with these. The battlefield is open. I am behind small hill, just 3 buildings and small number of scatered trees. Nothing really to hide behind. I kept my armour behing the hill and sent recon forward. I could not believe what I saw... AI got 6 Hs-39, 2 Puma, 3 R-35s and a Stug. I sent all my tanks (HUNT) to the top of the hill. I timed it so they show up simultaniously. I sent infantry ahead to atract attension. AI fires at Infantry and my tanks show up all at once in hull down on top of the hill. 3 turns later it is all over. I lost 2 T-70s...
  2. I am sure it is relevant to hundreds of Russians/Polish/Ukrainians/East Europeans who are buying pirated CMBB copies for $5 right now... I bet at least 10,000 will be sold ! (I even saw game I helped to developed being sold!)
  3. I found CMBO battles repetetive. It is always shermanX vs Panter/PzIV CMBB offers much richer enviroment! Yesterday in QB I was fighting H-39/R-35s with ValentineII ! I did not expect that. In CMBO germans always had better tanks and you had to outmanever them. In CMBB you can go head to head... I find East front much more dramatic then West Front. Where else capital came so close to falling yet was defended? Only once Allies felt a real German offensive - the Bulge. There were many of those in the East... Soviet Union survived 1941 without US/British supplies, so yes they could have won without Allied help - but would they??? I am happy I would be able to find out.
  4. It came out in the early 1990's. It's no Das Boot, but it beats the hell out of "Enemy at the Gates"</font>
  5. BTS is no longer able to fit all files on to CD. Maybe next version could be on DVD? By that time DVD players will be common and DVDs will be cheap... And with improved graphics they will need more space!
  6. THANKS! Your link works GREAT! Other links seem to work with netscape! [ September 19, 2002, 05:44 PM: Message edited by: killmore ]
  7. I lived in Ottawa for 10 years (1985-1995) I loved it but it was very cold... Now I am in San Diego - any other Canadians here? [ September 19, 2002, 05:47 PM: Message edited by: killmore ]

  9. Here my input: 1) Tank death clock is a good model 2) Tank death clock significantly debalanced the game in favour of tanks because: a) Tank borg spotting No death clock on AT guns c) AT Guns are too easy to spot Summary: I love tank death clock - it is realistic AT Guns are now much less deadly then they were in reality.
  10. There is that T34-85 in Poland for just $4500 US. I would like to buy it but what can I do with it? Besides it is in poor shape...
  11. Thats the one that had 1 page description of progress of Kursk (Zitadelle) battle. -->Way to brief at times! -->Not enough maps! Otherwise quite reasonable book. [ September 16, 2002, 08:57 PM: Message edited by: killmore ]
  12. I am not intimidated at all. In Zitadelle scenario KV1S were wimpy! They had problems penetrating PzIIIs at 100m and could be killed by PzIIIs front much further distance. So again - I am not intimidated... I guess situation might be diffenent in other years...
  13. "Barbarossa" by Alan Clark I read at least 4 others. Most were highly unbalanced toward german point of view. Book by Glanz was also OK but at times just too short! Just one page about what happened during Zitadelle???
  14. Well - they seemed to put in tank death clock relatively easy...
  15. Borg spotting has been annoying me a lot. The death-clock on tanks has reduced effectivness of AT guns yet tanks effectivnes to destroy ATGs has not been reduced. So I propose clock-spotting. Every tank can still spot the ATG but it has a special timer that will prevent it from firing for certain amount of time at that target. (depends on radio, whether unbuttoned, TC alive, cupola, etc...) This would require every tank to have its own clock for every spottet target. Might be a lot to do. As a half-measure you could have spotting-clock associated with target not tank. This means that no one except the first object that spotted the target will be able to fire at the target for certain amount of time. That reduces amount of programming work needed. Comments? 16. BTS did not want to do it on FRIDAY the 13th!
  17. I have done similar thing to win the scanario in 1 turn (once I opened fire) BUT: I consider my positioning "gamey"! I knew where the tanks will and that they will go through the center. Therefore I used edges of the map to kill the AI...
  18. The post looked so much like many "unhappy" others that I did not pick up on the ...
  19. My feeling is that HE fire is underpowered. In CMBB MGs are now more realistic but HE is still very weak! In Italian campaign Germans claimed that 80% of US casualties were result of mortar fire (from history channel) There is no way you could achieve this in CM... Is is increadible that german infantry bombarded by 2 tanks (guns and MGs) and 3 mortart has no casualties - even if all round fall right there between them... This might be a problem with modeling all troops being in a single point instead of being somewhat spread out. If they are spread out over small area (say 10 meters) then even miss of 5 meters should hurt someone. Anyway I have no idea how HE hits are modeled so maybe I am way off. Anyway too many HE hits result in no casualties.
