  1. Well Nope... There were no schürzen in 1941 and few in 1942. I am not talking 1944 here. By the way Soviets frequently fired at tanks with machine guns (early war) even if it was sensless. It is 35mm at 300m so if you do the math using various armour penetration web page calculator you do get 50mm under 100m. For an exact source you need to ask Fionn. He had a source. Now would the ATR penetration then MG fire work on a tank? I don't see a reason why not! Therefore it should also work in a simulation. Even if penetration would not happen on PzIV why would it not work on side of lesser tank? You do get them in CMBB so why the MG fire would be ineffective?
  2. I landed USA in France in 1942 - that helped a lot!
  3. Just out of interest I used couple of internet search engines to search for Combat mission sales numbers. Interestingly enough I found some quotes and comparisons to other game sales... I am not going to publish them since BTS want to keep them semi-secret.
  4. Soviet AT rifle can penetrate over 50mm of armour under 100m! So they were able to penetrate front of PzIV early and still front of the turret of PzIV at the end of the war. (If memory servers me right!) Soviet AT-Granades were able to penetrate 120mm of armour. Once you punch a hole in the tank with At-Rifle ANY BULLET is capable to take out the tank! Why? Bullet which goes through the ATR hole and ricoches inside tank. It will kill crew and can cause ammo explosion or engine fire Now this is probably not modeled - TOO BAD! Couple of ATRs with MGs support should be easily capable to take out PzIV (at close distance)
  5. I lost Tiger at 650 meters to Daimler! Front armour weak point. What annoyed me the most is that Tiger totally ignored Daimler and was anihilating infantry which was 100 meters away. So stop complaining!
  6. I have seen that. Italy was first to develop jets! Yet none were ever produced
  7. Not really - they were released from their function because Stalin was sure there will be not attack on Soviet union anymore
  8. Since Japan attacked USA Soviets were able to move their veteran troops to fight Germany. These troops were fundamental in repulsing german attack on Moscow. Please add it to wish list
  9. I landed US forces in 1942 in France (skipped africa alltogether!) In 1943 US liberated Paris - France was liberated yet Vichy france decided to stay. Why? They should have joined france! So I had to declare war on Vichy france on took south of france. Vichy france stayed in the war anyway! (I guess due to colonies in Afrika?) Soviets took Berlin in summer 1944. Yet Romania and Bulgaria fought to the bitter end. I finally took them late 1944 British took Sycily in 1943 yet Italy did nothing. Now Soviets have Rome surounded in winter 1944... All of this is very cool but quite unexpected... I will have to land in Africa to knock Vichy France out of the war!
  10. I would not call it invasion - Once czechoslowakia fell they took a small chunk. (Less than 1/10 of czech territory) There was not real resistance. I believe they should not have done this. This is way less than "Soviet Invasion" in 1939 once Warsaw fell Germany: Poland did not fight germany between 1918 and 1939. Thats german propaganda speeking. There were territories that Germany was not willing to give up to new Poland and there were about 4 uprisings on these territories. Polish army was not involved! Soviet Union: Just like Britain, Litvania, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and other contries Poland was trying to destroy bolshevik revolution (and get a piece of the action). Polish leaders counted on popular uprising in Ukraine once they invade USRR. That never happened and Poland almost lost the war in 1920. By 1921 Poland again was on offensive and gained significant territory. At that point they signed peace treaty. Poland re-gained territory that was Polish for 400 years... (1400 until 1796 when Poland was destroyed) And yes Poland did owned Territory up to Black Sea for about 200 years... By the way Poland did not fight all of the neighbours: Litvenia, Romania were never at war with Poland.[/QB]</font>

  12. I saw it at 6 PM exiting 15 and going east on Scrips Poway. It was painted all dark matt green no unit markings of any kind. Looked brand new! Now thinking about it it looked a bit like tetrarch... Darn - I got only a passing look!!!
  13. I just saw a Stuart tank on a truck going east. Which one of you guys bought it?
  14. I have a book that claims that Romania bombed Hungary (June 1941) in order to force them to join war against USRR. Romanian planes were repainted and modified to make them look like soviet planes. This is the first time I see this fact so is this true?
  15. At my work www.battlefront.com has website has been disabled since it is games-related. If this happens to you try secure connection! Use "https" instead of "http" https://www.battlefront.com/ works great. To see this forum use: https://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=1 You might have to do this a couple of times - but it seems to fool most Web-Filtering. BTS - I am not telling people how to do anything illegal or damaging to BFC so please don't ban me
  16. That is not true! I have not seen such bogus numbers for a very long time. 1) Germany continues to gain ground in 1942. So Soviets were not recovering it in 1942. 2) Soviets were pretty much back to pre-war front line in summer 1944. 3) Soviet only started to recover ground lost in 1941 after Zitadell. So mid-1943. 4) Germany was Gaining ground from 22 June to december 5, 1941. Thats not 19 weeks but 5.5 months. So closer to 24 weeks. Therefore Soviets recovered ground taken by Wermacht in 52 weeks. Thats still 24 weeks vs 52. But that not nearly 19 to 210. You can look at it this way: Germany gains ground in 1941 and 1942. Soviets in 1943 and half of 1944. That makes it about even.
  17. Something to add to Axis effectivness. At the start or Barbarossa Axis had 40% advantage in manpower. They held manpower advantage until december 1941.
  18. I would love to but it seems you really need a book to unswer in depth. Not being a grog I would say that Germany was highly effective in first year. But it lacked over all plan and was not willing to stick to some of its own goals. There was probably also some willingness to contradict hitler to show him that he is not a super-commander. There were some gross mistakes - like no infantry support for armour drive. Sometimes armour was ordered to wait for days until infantry catches up. Also Germany never had enough transportation/trucks. So in early war they were able to move faster than Soviets by the war end they were not. Hitler compounded that with orders to stand ground. - Soviets loved that. They could leave slow infantry divisions to slowly starve opponent into submittion. German army was not as mobile Soviets in late war... Their biggest mistake in my opinion was alienating local Soviet population....
  19. While I love Combat Mission I do agree with some comments from that site. Other than that that review was not bad at all
  20. So all the Germans wanted is to united Europe with capital in Germany and expand Europe toward the east. Isn't it pretty much what EU is doing? [ July 26, 2002, 04:12 PM: Message edited by: killmore ]
