  1. LOL! I almost bought a new computer early in 2010 for the release of CM:N. Glad I waited!
  2. I was more talking about how they dont really spot well in the game but thanks for responding Steve. Mission 3 in the Thunder campaign is a good example of what I am talking about. Put the 707's at the far end of the map and with those optices the should spot almost everyone on the other side of the map in the trenches (they are only 1500 meters away!). The 707's should be able to tell me everything about that trenchline but it doesnt even see troops unless the fire. Even then it is just "?". and yes, they have LOS.
  3. I understand that. What I was pointing out here is watch the nafarious scenario designer or opponant that puts a VIED in the middle of any obvious chockpoint and not let it move. You have zero chance to spot it and it will kill everything. At least an normal IED has a higher failrate and needs a triggerman alive. A VIED doesnt!
  4. Nope. Take a top floor of the type of structure that is depicted in the game and put 9 men in it and burst a 155mm arty round in it (not hard to do BTW with modern arty....well.....a little hard). Now do it twice or three times. Nobody is leaving. Shrapnel...probably. Blast effect/ overpressure...yup. I am talking about the round exploding in the floor. Nobody is leaving.
  5. Yeah......ummmm...... If you set the fuse to impact or slight delay it would. You really needed me to say that????
  6. When you watch the youtube video posted in post #22 (page 3) of that 155mm you have to know that something is not right with the modeling of troops in a building. Imagine it penetrating the roof and exploding INSIDE the top floor when you watch that video. DEVISTATING! It would blow the bejesus outa anyone there. Not in a good way either!
  7. I thought I would do a little testing of VIED's because I came across a disturbing situation in one of my games. In testing I also uncovered a little bug (if you want to call it that). 1. No matter what the civilian density is, If a VIED does not move it seems you will never detect it. I had an HQ squad and fireteam sitting 25 meters from the spot that I put a VIED (with no move orders) for 25 minutes with no spot at all. They were facing it, rested, elite, yada yada yada. The civilian density was "light". I understand the reasoning behind this because it COULD happen IRL that you could never notice these cars if they dont move. But I say you WOULD notice them if they were sitting in the middle of the road! A questionable opponant could have several of these things parked all over the place and you would never be able to avoid them. I guess you just wouldnt play that guy again! Not a big deal but certainly open for abuse. 2. POSSIBLE BUG. Even if your guys dont see the Spy or VIED they talk as if they do! They will constantly say over and over again "Vehicle spotted!" or "Infantry spotted!" even though there is nothing in sight. LOL! Maybe an easy fix for BFC if they want to do it. OR you can just pretend that someone in your squad is a little psychic and has a baaaaaaaddddddd feeling! LOL. FWIW
  8. Did you spot it because it moved??? I never spotted mine. Even with multiple overwatch.
  9. Could we PLEASE beef up the spotting of these things with a small tweak in the 1.32 patch so we can finally use these things? Also...the LOS should be measured from the optics so we can just peak the top over the hill and not present a huge target. As you may have guessed I just played mission 3.
  10. For the most part....YES YES YES YES YES YES! BUT...it must be a VERY tricky balance act for BFC. Overall...it does seem like the buildings offer a bit too much protection.
  11. ...and give me 5 second bursts from the 240's and SAW gunners! ...and how about a good 5 to 10 minutes of dust after a building falls! ...and how about the instant 180 arc hotkey! ...and the ability to change the arc color! I love you guys.
  12. Okay....finished the mission. I cant believe how many bad guys there were! Every single pile of rubble held 2 or 3 squads! You would clear a pile just to discover 10 minutes later a single bad guy was left hiding in there. UGGGGG! Anyway...about the VBIED, so it seems that if the AI never actually MOVES the VBIED then you have zero chance to discover it until it goes boom. Correct? That is what happened to me on this map. Never saw the car despite having overwatch 20 meters from it. I guess this makes sense. Still would be nice to have a chance to see a VBIED car even if it doesnt move.
  13. I am playing the Thunder (Army) campaign. I am on the second mission (the one at the airfield). After studying the map I brilliantly choose to go hard left and blow a hole in the wall near the barracks and push through there to set up a nice base of fire. All is going great. My troops waste several technicals back there and make their way into the two back barracks in great overwatch positions. There is a third barracks that I am sure is empty as I have drawn no fire from it at all so far. Still, I play it safe and first send a 4 man assault team across the long, empty courtyard that seperates every barrack from the next while the rest of the platoon overwatches. The half squad "quicks" without incident untill about half way across then BOOM!!! All 4 guys exist no more! HUGE crater and in the middle of it is a car with the VIED symbol above it. NOTHING WAS THERE BEFORE THE BLAST. 1. As you know there are several empty taxis and pickups all over this map but there was NO vehicle there before the blast. Are VIEDs invisible until they move or something? No parked car....nothing. If so...did I manage to run to the exact spot the AI had a VIED that had not moved?????? 2. I saved the turn before this happened and replayed it to confirm nothing was there and also to experiment a little. Something strange happened. I sent my troops up the courtyard but not all the way to where the explosion happened and held them short. Now even though there was no vehicles in sight, my guys kept on repeating "vehicle sighted" over and over but nothing was there. Is this a bug? Is this some way of cheating if you listen to your guys up close and hear them talk about a car I cant see? Any VIED info you have I would love to hear it!
  14. There you have it! It's called "The Normandy"!
  15. ...and Chops....English next time please J/K So for now it seems we should use general on rooftops and airburst for open ground.
  16. Still not going to stop the shrapnel from a 155mm but I get what you are saying.
  17. Thanks for your work (and humor)! My thoughts are a tweak is needed in both the "rooftop survivability" and "inside a building immunity to arty" but I am interested in the 81mm and 155mm tests if you do them. Also...do you plan on looking at troops surviving abbuilding collapses and having the ability to keep fighting?
  18. Agreed...but it seems BFC doesnt want to chime in here. I never understand this.
  19. I think you will get the standard answer here. Is the effort worth the limited time BFC has to program this stuff? I doubt it. Dont get me wrong....I agree with you but I have learned the standard line.
  20. Before you eat that turkey BFC......just remember the MG-42 has a higher rate of fire then the MG-3. Make sure that is corrected in CM:N! Now EAT...EAT! Nobody wants a skinny Santa!
  21. The manual says nothing of any added moral bonus so I would have to say that it doesnt exist.
  22. We would NEED fire introduced into CMSF because you HAVE to be able to burn those mothers!!!
