  1. Anything out there? The defaut WAV sounds like a perverted crank call. I was hoping for something like tracks spinning and throwing mud...
  2. The book is definately worth the 32 bucks. The maps are few, but period with markings for US unit movement. There are 2 maps of actions in France, and one of Darmstadt in Germany. CMBO map ready.
  3. Marlow, I have a copy that I received from my grandfather (1st. Lt. 113 Cav from D+3 to VE day+). He was friends with Irzyk from UMass Agricultural School in the late '30's and early '40's. I have not had a chance to slog through it yet, as I am going over Ryan's The Last Battle in anticipation of CMBB. It is next on my list. From flipping through quickly: There are a few maps, and the armor battles seem to be recoanted in great detail. The story is told in 3rd person, however, which seems a bit odd. Over all it seems like a good read. I can let you know in a few weeks, if you would like.
  4. I saw this mentioned in the "new mods that people were working on" thread about a month ago. Any word on what it is or if it's still expected? I hope so, what with Tom+Co.'s great record (what with that BOB mod an all). It sounded like a great idea. Here's hoping...
  5. I am there if it is in the Manhattan/Bklyn/Qns region. Much apreciated Mr. Dorosh!
  6. ...only if it has two heads and fills its diapers with cd's of CMBB...
  7. I made a massive linked map spanning 4 battles of the Kustrin/Seelow region. The fighting was of course USSR V. Germany. It was a bit too massive. I am going to rework it in CMBB. I am definately looking forward to the option to load saved units into other maps. Late war stuff is definately my greatest interest. The unit mixes were the most interesting on both sides-with the Allies and Axis(particularly) having a combination of war hardened men and green troops.
  8. Great source for maps of the Ukraine and South West USSR. Time to start thinking about those custom maps... http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/EART/soviet_maps.html Thanks to KWP at the MGO Atomic Games forum for this gem.
  9. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaahoooooooooo!!!!! Like Little Stevie said on the Sopranos: "I tried ta git out, but they dragged me back in..." Come 9/20 I'm blacking out the windows, stocking up on nutritional baby formulas and power drinks and chaining myself ta the computer. They won't be able to drag me away from my sweet, sweet copy of CMBB. Gawd love ya BTS!
  10. 3 part question! Will CMBB ship with an onion dome church as a part of one of the regional terrain groupings? It would add greatly to the immersive quality to any hypothetical Moscow scenario-with a few grouped as the buildings surrounding the Kremlin. Also, will there be two (or more) factory tiles included, so one could mod a factory and a large government building (ie Reichstag) within a single scenario? Will a generic government bldg. tile (white collumns etc.) be included with CMBB? Will we be able to swap bmp.'s from one terrain region to another (ie. bmb.'s will be labeled 100a.bmp as opposed to 100.bmp-thus necessitating an overwrite from region to region)? I ask because some terrain areas may have a mix of terrain types (Hungary, Romania) that MAY not be moddeled by the games terrain region allocation.
  11. Combat Snowmobiles. Check these out. http://www.battlefield.ru/library/bookshelf/aerosani/aerosan.html
  12. Will CMBB be released on a Mac and PC friendly disk, as CMBO was? For those of us with both (home/ work), it is a great thing (just a hassle shuttling all the mods back and forth on)
  13. I think having the 2 man team is a good compromise. Those that wish to make a scenario that includes the Finn pioneer would be able to, within the confines of their historical formation. Whether others "abuse" this option or not, I could not care less-I won't play those scenarios. I am very thankful that axis minor countries are being represented, and the more depth of simulation to this woefully underrepresented (by wargames) the better. Imagine an "assualt on Leningrad" ahistorical scenario (though I prefer the historical ones) without a Finnish pioneer representation, or a desperate ad hoc defense by Finnish units. The wider the palate (within historical confines) the better. And thanks for asking, Oh Great And Wise Genie.
  14. This may be a bit simplistic, but would there be a method within the scenario design section that could specify a basic path of attack/ assault/ probe? It may make playing games that you designed predictable against the AI, but for designing historical situations-it would be nice. I realize that flags can do some of this, and this may be too much on the strat side. This may be countered by grouping units and assigning them to a path of attack. I find the AI fairly hopeless in big scenarios, and sometimes concerning bridge crossings. Defend Could be done roughly the same way as the traditional flag method, maybe with a few tweeks, as the AI gives a pretty good fight on D.
  15. I am in agreement with Kip and Directive, although they propose two very seperate systems for dealing with a solo player campaign system. I am an occaissonal PBEMer, but for cannot play TCP games due to a system configuration (and a busy schedule). Much of my CMBO play is vs the AI, and I am not at all dissapointed by that. What would add to my enjoyment of the game from time to time is some sort of linear campaign, on the lines of either suggestion. I am hopeful about something centered within the confines of a historical (or close to it) campaign. The big picture/littlle picture suggestion of Kip's has always been my wargaming dream. Leading the same group of soldiers at the level of Directive's proposal also has great merits. I do agree that the board conversation about campaign game ideas is at times bit multiplayer centric, and I hope that the solo player part of the game can be given some of the same attention in this matter.
  16. Is there a way to remove that compass from the horizon of the CM landscape? It looms like an alphabettical setting sun- confusing, innit? It kind of breaks up the suspension of disbelief when the map rotates around to that darned thing again. Did I miss something in the preferences?
  17. I am working on a series of linked Kustrin to Seelow battles. I am also very interested in the battle of Staraya Russa in '41 during Typhoon. The town changed hands around 5 or 6 times in the space of a few days. Anyone having any info on it, please send along a link. I remember reading those Trevor Ropper WW2 magazines as akid and finding just a few sentances about it. That would be a good op, and a good chance to see how the new building damage model works. I've held back quite a few scenarios waiting for CMBB, as that is where my greatest interest lies. Soon, soon...
  18. I am trying to convert the sound files with the Mac friendly MCM3 v 1.5. so I can finally run the frontovik mod without hearing "okay sargeant" from my NKVD men. The sound files from my "frontovik" folder are not showing up when I try to select it as a source file to overwrite the original data files. Anyone know a fix? Any other methods to changing the sound files on a Mac? Any help is much appreciated.
  19. WOW... Just look at the reflections in the windows of the buildings!! The treads on that KV!! Incredible... I am rereading Craig's Enemy at the Gates again for the first time since my teens. I appreciated that snap of the Squad Leader sets someone posted a while back. (You must have had a more lucrative paper route than I had!) This is the game that a lot of us have been waiting a long time for.
  20. Excellent post My mind is racing with scenario possibilities. Can't wait for Ost Front...
  21. I just use them as a visual representation-but they do block vehicular traffic. At the same time (and your point is well taken), they offer too much cover and LOS block.
  22. I have always raised the rubble a few elevations above the surrounding terrain to simulate a collapsed building, but the rdblock idea is great. I also drop the rubble tile 1or2 elavations in city fights to simulate a cellar. Dragons teeth can be done with concrete road (1 tile), then raise it 1 or 2 elevations above surrounding terrain.
  23. Great new site. CM Bookmarks are really adding up now. The sloth picture sent me into a hysteria.
