  1. Just a groggy, pre coffee idea: Has anyone (or is it possible) to mod the squad soldier amount to 3 men, so that the graphical icon matches the troops that are at that location? I am also not sure that as the squads were "reduced" that the number of men would correspond to the number of men seen. I have no problem with the fact that CM abstracts the amount of soldiers in favour of speed, but for some very small actions it might add a further level of realism using Franko's Rules, etc. Forgive my ramblings if this has already been disscussed, I must have missed it. Although, I am not sure I could have, as I check this site every 2 hours...
  2. Thanks. I will read up some more, it sounds great on the initial look.
  3. Checked the CMMC site, looks great. PC only, though. Foiled again. Anything like this for Mac. Maybe I can run it on my Virtual PC. A single player version, utilizing basic AI movements would be great for those of us with schedules permitting only those 4 AM CM sessions...
  4. Great post. I wonder how much time was between the WP rounds hitting and the FFE order. It must have been unnerving to get that first warning. I am going to dig out my grandfathers VHS tapes he made, recording his recollections of the war (he landed D+7 as well), serving as a Lieut. in a mechanized cav unit. I believe it was the 116th-The Red Horse. They saw action from St. Lo to Holland to Germany.
  5. Outstanding, WBW!! What a great grand dad... I will have a Wild Bill Weekend of scenario playing in honor of you and yours. Best wishes
  6. This seems to be a bit of the chicken and the egg (or is it the other way round...?) problem. It seems a foregone conclusion that tactical strategy will have to utilize whatever tools available, and also be shaped by those tools (or lack of them). A "nationality" modification seems unnecessary.
  7. Thanks Gyrene, I am all updated, and the net sprockets is in there. I guess I need to monkey around a bit more with all those settings that I probably shouldn't have twirled the knobs on before all this started...
  8. I am not havind any luck connecting in TCP games. I am on an imacDV 500mhz with a 56k modem, no firewall. Error reads "unable to make TCP/IP connection" whe I try to sart fro my side, when it is being hosted from another location, the error is "unable to make TCP/IP connection". Is there a help walkthrough anywhere for the setup of TCP/IP that anyone knows of? I have searched, but there is an overload of info that is not pertinent. Anyone who has set up with preferences etc, help would be much appreciated.
  9. Thanks for the reply. The address is correct. I am not behind a firewall that I am aware of, and I am on a 56k modem connection. I assume that it is something that I have set incorrectly in my TCP/IP prefs. Still working on it, if anyone has any other ideas, let me know. Im geared up to play in the Bulge Campaign on Sunday, and this is getting my goat.
  10. I keep getting :"Could not open connection at TCP/IP address" when I try to set up a TCP/IP game. I am on an imac 500mhz, running CM 1.12 and I am connected to the "internet". Do I need to set anything in my preferences panel for TCP/IP? Is there a walkthrough for TCP/IP setup posted anywhere? I searched but nothing pertinent. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
  11. I know they will not be be modelled in CMBB per say(but modded later...), but I want to make some scenarios/ops based on the SS units that used other foriegn nationals (Waloonian, Dutch, Ukranian) and the actions they served in. Particularly late war, when most of these guys fought tenaciously when they should have been the first to run.
  12. Great idea, Jason. I wonder if the regular terrain tile to campaign terrain mod is very far off, it would be easy to change up in CMMOS. Any ideas for play against AI?
  13. Hey Mr. Johnson- I have a few non ASL scenarios in the pipeline-different sectors of Berlin, last days in the Stalingrad Kessel, the Kustrin Bridgehead, Seelow-mostly late war stuff. Desperate defence vs overwhelming odds so far. I am interested in making some Kharkov ops or scenarios soon. I am having to transpose a lot of these that I had already made due to some mishap or another, but I'm on it, and will send them along to the Frontovik contingent when done. By the way, where is the best place to send these now that it is up and running?
  14. Before it gets sent yonder... Much of the still photographs you are familiar with are the surviving few frames of many rolls taken by Capa. He sent the film back to England to be developed by an assistant-who, due to nervousness, developed the film in very hot water, ruining the film Capa risked his life to take. All but 13 odd frames of many rolls survived. A lab here in NYC ruined my negatives of the WTC, taken with my 8x10" camera-a lab I was sent to by an unnamed newspaper magazine. There are worse stories to be sure, but that's unseen history-now only surviving by the word of mouth of witnesses.
  15. I will try and get my head around that and try it, Dogface. Thanks. I am working on a storming the Reichstag scenario for use with Frontovik, and it just doesn't seem right with the set of tools in the kit (though great ones they are!!)...
  16. I have noticed within Mike T's fine Frontovik mod a set of skins for the heavy building tile set-replacing it with a factory file set. Is it beyond the realm of sensible thought to suggest a "blank tile" within the scenario builder for the heavy building skin-for mod makers to replace it with the Kremlin, Reichstag, Holiday Inn, etc.? This would allow the heavy buildings to remain in the given scenario, without having a hundred Kremlins. Of course this could be extended to vehicles and soldiers, but that might get too crazy.
  17. Mike T, bfamily, and a few others are working on one. I do not have the exact address, but it is in the Combat Mission World section of the Wargamer page. Pacific mod on the way-many other theatres are there as well. A must.
  18. I am using a Mac. I have been trying to send both PBEM files and scenarios to people, and they cannot open the files on their PCs. I have the 1.12 version of CM installed. Anybody have any advice on how to make these compatible (ie sending other than text files from my hotmail acct., etc...) Thanks.
  19. Ah, I see it all clearly now. A few more steps than I expected. Thanks.
  20. I am trying to start a PBEM file. Every time I start up from quick battle, choose my force (choosing PBEM selection of course, and choosing all relevent fields open for opponent)-It asks me to save my file. I do so, but I do not get to place my forces. Do I need to reload in order to do so? The manual is a little sketchy, and the search is famously down for the count, so I figured I would ask here... (I am on a mac if this is relevent). Thanks.
  21. ...just sent you an email. It sounds good to me if there are any seats left.
  22. "...odd file formats" on Macs? I run Virtual PC for some other, older PC games, and it is a real pain in the rectilinear to install and run. PC's are made for androids. BTS is great for keeping CM going for Mac, and I will readily buy anything they put on the market WW2 related. If all the great mod makers out there want to convert to this new, easier format-thats fine, I will miss a lot of stuff that has made this game that much better if it means an easier time for all the PC users out there. But cmon, maxi mus-arent we already marginalized enough for you to start feeling superior?
  23. For a taste of things to come on the more immense side of things, I have been playing a set of scenarios based on Kursk "July 11th" and "July 12th" by Mr. Johnson. I highly recomend them both. I am usually not a fan of monster battles, but these are different, as management of different offensive (as German) moves play out. With such a big map, I become fascinated even more by the actions of each segment of the attack, and the personalities involved. It gets pretty hairy, with more lead flying than a room fulla kids taking an SAT. It also really eats up the memory. I tried a "Kustrin to Seelow" linked set of battles, that ran over a series of maps that were interconnected-for all intensive purposes, giving me a map larger than could be modeled by CM. The loss of troop continuity was a dissapointment, leaving much to conjecture. I think there is a lot that can be done with maps of immense scale-it will be great to see how it plays out in CMBB...
