  1. I'm not sure what causes this error. It may either be something wrong with the installation of the game or possibly something wrong with Windows. Assuming that you haven't gotten the game to run before, then you may want to simply uninstall CMRT, re-download the installer from Battlefront and reinstall it. If you have security software you may want to set exceptions/white-list the installer and then after the game is installed, do the same for the game directory (and/or the game executable) to make sure it isn't getting interfered with by security software. If for some reason the error continues after doing the above steps, then you may want to double-check you Windows installation: 1. Type "cmd" in windows search bar2. Right click on "Command Prompt"3. Select "Run as Administrator"4. Type "sfc /scannow" without quote and press ENTERThen :1. Type "cmd" in windows search bar2. Right click on "Command Prompt"3. Select "Run as Administrator"4. Type "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth" without quote and press ENTER5. Type "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth" without quote and press ENTER6. Type "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" without quote and press ENTER Some of these latter 'DISM' commands may not all work or do anything. Hopefully something among these suggestions will get you working. If not, please provide more details about your system, such as the exact Windows version, video card and driver (though that shouldn't have direct bearing on this specific issue), security software you're using, etc. There's a slight possibility that the following could be the issue, but it would seem a bit rare (registry modification by an utility or user): https://www.askvg.com/this-file-does-not-have-a-program-associated-with-it-error-message-while-running-a-game-from-game-explorer-in-windows-vista/
  2. I believe using 'Balanced' for the 3D Model and Texture Quality settings will help the most with increasing the draw distance. However it probably won't help as much as you would like it to.
  3. The CMBN 1.x versions will NOT work with Windows 10. The version of the copy-protection system in that version is incompatible with Windows 10. If you have the 3.0 or 4.0 Upgrades, download one of those installers. So if the latest upgrade that you have is 3.0, then go to your store account and look for your 3.0 Upgrade purchase and download the installer from there. If you purchased the 4.0 Upgrade then use that one instead. These will have the latest patches for each and they are both compatible with Windows 10.
  4. CMBB should be capable of much more than 1024 x 768 (I think 2560 x 1440 or something along those lines might be the maximum). However it does utilize distinct resolutions that were typically of the 4:3 ratio that markshot mentioned. With current widescreen displays this may mean either the entire image gets stretched (usually horizontally) or there are black bars on each side (a 'letterboxing' of sorts). An important consideration is the vertical resolution of your monitor/display (the '768' of your current resolution). If the next higher vertical resolution is beyond your display it won't get offered during the resolution selection process. I can't remember if the next higher resolution has a vertical component of either 960 or 1024. For most 'HD' 1920 x 1080 displays the maximum resolution will usually be 1280 x 1024 (there might be a 1366 x 960 or something). Deleting the 'prefs' file will usually start the resolution selection process on the next launch of the game. Typically it will start at the highest possible resolution and vertical refresh rate (discerned between your video driver and possibly the display). You typically select a resolution by clicking the 'Select' or 'OK' button that shows up within the box that lists the current resolution and vertical refresh rate. If the selection isn't made within 5 seconds, then the next lower vertical refresh rate is tried until 60Hz (or so) is reached. At that point the next lower resolution is tried, but at the highest possible refresh rate. This all proceeds until 800 x 600 at 60Hz is reached. If nothing is selected then a DirectX error is generated and the game/process exits. You can simply try again (the process does not 'loop around' to try again, you must relaunch).
  5. Is this a Mac or PC ? If it is a PC, what videocard do you have ? I'm not certain, but the 'white dots' may be an effect of some anti-aliasing settings. You may want to experiment with whatever settings you have in the control panel/utility for your videocard. If 'triple buffering' is available as a setting, enable that (though it may not make a difference to this particular issue). Try disabling any antialiasing/smoothing settings. With Nvidia, you can make a specific set of settings for each program/game.
  6. Are both CMBN and CMFB version 4.x ? Generally they should both work regardless of version (though CMBN would have to be version 2.x or later to be compatible with Windows 10). Generally if CMBN works, then CMFB should work Were you able to activate the license key for CMFB or did the game crash before allowing you to activate it ? Typically the games do NOT need to use the compatibility mode, though some users said it allowed the games to work for them. Was it necessary to possibly add CMBN and/or CMFB as an exception/white-list in your security software ? What security software do you use ?
  7. You purchased the CMFI 3.0 Upgrade or was your 'base game' the 3.0 version (it depends on when you initially purchased CMFI) ? This version refers to the 'Engine version' and doesn't directly apply to the 'game/patch' version (a different numbering scheme). You installed with the 'all-in-one installer' for CMFI or was it the 'upgrade installer' (which would be an option if you purchased the '3.0 Upgrade') ? Was CMFI previously installed and activated on this computer ? Did you install any 'patches' for CMFI before attempting to activate it ? The initial version of CMFI was the 2.0 (Engine) version and there are 3.0 and 4.0 Upgrades available for it (along with a two modules). Depending on when you initially purchased CMFI it could be version 2.x, 3.x or 4.x. When 'Upgrades' are released, new purchases of the base game will be at this new/current version. If you've install CMFI 3.x, then you can only install patches for this version. The latest patches (v. 2.x) are only for the 4.0 Upgrade. Unfortunately the download links for patches for the 2.x and 3.x (Engine) versions of CMFI are actually linking to the patches for the 4.x (Engine) version. If you've applied one of these 4.x/2.x patches to a CMFI 3.x/1.x version of the game, then you'll need to reinstall CMFI to get an executable that will NOT need a 4.0 Upgrade license key. Assuming you have the correctly installed version, then the correct license key should work. If you're using copy-and-paste and you're still getting an 'invalid license key' error, then you will want to contact the Helpdesk (click on the blue '+ new ticket' button in the upper right) and they should hopefully be able to confirm that the license key is valid and functioning and correct the issue if there is a true problem with the license key.
  8. One problem with a 'public' bug reporting system (using publically submitted bugs) is how much duplication there is in reporting and the quality of that reporting. Even among the beta-testers this happens on occasion. This causes a bit of 'noise' in the reporting, where the developer has to sort through the multiple reports trying to find the best or most workable reports. There is also the issue of attempting to confirm the bugs. Some issues may not be bugs or the details aren't sufficient to reproduce the problem and that clutters up the reporting system. With publically submitted bugs this can be a significant issue. The closest thing that would be workable with a developer of this size is a public list of acknowledged bugs. This has its pitfalls too though, with the time it takes to resolve some bugs or even what is considered a bug and what isn't. This can give the perception that the game is buggy and will remain so in some customer's views.
  9. What Windows version are you attempting to run this on and what version of CMBN are you trying to install ? The 1.x versions of CMBN will generate this error since the copy-protection version in this version of CMBN isn't compatible with Windows 10. If you are trying to install CMBN, you may want to use an installer for a newer version (2.0 +) and that should hopefully get you running.
  10. Open a ticket with the Helpdesk (click on the blue '+new ticket' button in the upper right). I'm not sure what they require for the Paradox base games, but they should be able to sort you out for activating CMSF2.
  11. With CMBN you will need to purchase the '3 + 4 Upgrade Bundle', which will upgrade you all the way to 4.x. Once this is purchased, downloading and installing the 'full installer' will be a replacement for the current CMBN + MG install.
  12. Unfotunately this appears to be a long-standing problem with the Intel OpenGL drivers and bitmapped text. No setting within the Intel driver control panel disables this aliasing effect. The only way for BFC to 'fix' this issue is to completely re-vamp the 2D graphic presentation system utilizing non-bitmapped text, a very significant programming effort. Or Intel could simply set an option within their driver to disable their aliasing/'smoothing' or bitmap compression.
  13. When CMC was in development it was initially aimed at CMBB. A special version of CMBB was necessary in order to get the stats from a battle and to possibly read the battles that would be created by the Campaign game (which required all of the maps for the campaign to be pre-made in CMBB). Right now I don't think any of the CM2 games has any code like this at the moment. The 'military contract' versions of CMSF2/CMBS put out some end-game stats and, I assume, have the ability to have some weapon behavior/data modified. The end-game output stats however may not be of the type that would be most useful for a campaign system to utilize (from a consumer player perspective). I don't know if BFC would have the rights to distribute this version of the games (they certainly wouldn't have the classified data).
  14. Login to what, the Battelfront Store ? If so, when you login (from the main page, upper right, 'Login' button), there is text below the dialog boxes for entering your email and password, "Lost your password ? Click here to reset it." Click on the 'Click here' text. If the email account is not recognized you'll have to figure out what account it actually is. If you can't figure it out, open a ticket with the Helpdesk (blue button in upper right '+new ticket') and they may be able to get you connected again (with some additional personal identifying info).
  15. The only other content for CMBS is the 'Battle Pack'. Use the 'Activate New Products' shortcut for CMBS and use the Battle Pack license key and see if that activates. I don't think the 4.0 Upgrade should have gotten rid of that activation, but you can simply activate again. I'm not sure what CMSF2 would do if you only successfully activate the 'old v1' license keys and not the new one(s). Basically it should have played with just the 'base game' and 'base game v1' license keys, but something seems amiss here. If the list of activated license keys is correct, then you're missing all of the 'new' activation icons for each of the modules (which should have shown up with the new license key being put in for activation). You may need to have the Helpdesk provide the gsClean utilities to wipe out all of the CMSF1/2 activations and start over. They will definitely need to check the license key to make sure it is valid and has activations remaining.
  16. I assume you have the old license keys, is that correct ? If not, the Helpdesk can possibly help you there too. Hopefully you have an idea what email accounts you've used in that past since the old Store account should be associated with one of those. Your old accounts should have been moved over to the new site (even if you haven't logged into them in a long time).
  17. You definitely got a weird result with CMSF licensing. The 'old v1' refers to CMSF1, which is a bit distinct from later CM games that had Upgrades available to them (v. 2.0, 3.0, etc.). CMSF1 never had any 'upgrades' until CMSF2 was released, which provides completely upgraded content (and has the the 4.x game engine). The upgrade that you purchased was the 'CMSF1 Big Bundle Upgrade' for US$35, correct ? If you didn't purchase the NATO module in the past, then this Upgrade will NOT provide that module (since it would require the CMSF1 NATO module license key). I'm not certain how the licensing/upgrade process works if you have a Paradox/retail version of CMSF1. When it came to CMSF1 originally, when you installed any of the modules your game became a Battlefront version (using Battlefront patches, etc.). You'll want to open a ticket with the Helpdesk (click on the blue '+new ticket' in the upper right corner). With the CMSF1 Marines and British Forces DVDs, the license key was usually printed on a sticker attached to the CD/DVD case (I assume you've found those). You'll want to provide the license key you have for the current CMSF2 Upgrade and hopefully support can figure out what is going on with it (perhaps it is incorrect for the specific upgrade product).
  18. For CMSF2 you'll need both the Upgrade license key(s) and all of the CMSF1 module license keys that you have. I would have assumed that it would have worked with just the base CMSF1 license key and the Upgrade license key; giving you access to just the base CMSF2 game. If you activated the Upgrade modules, you will need to put in the license keys for the original CMSF1 modules ? You should get a 'success' window when a license key is activated and it should have green boxes with a text description in each one that lists what has been activated. Did you get this and do you recall what boxes were there in the success screen ? Unfortunately there is no way to recall this box without making a successful attempt at activating. For the other CM games, if the games/modules have been activated on the computer earlier, then those activations should remain in effect. However if you have upgraded this computer (certain hardware changes or the Windows version) or the games have been moved to a new computer (without another activation having already occurred on this new computer), then the activations may be invalidated and you would need to reactivate them again. This sometimes requires an utility from the Battlefront Helpdesk that will wipe out the old activation to allow you to reactivate. With games that are at a 3.0 Upgrade level, you can apply the 'upgrade' installation to each game and then activate with the 4.0 Upgrade license key. If you are attempting a fresh install (new computer, etc.), then you will want to install the 'full installer' and you will need both the 3.0 Upgrade license key (or original base game license key if the base game purchase was at version 3.0 already), any module license key(s) and of course the 4.0 Upgrade license key. If you purchased the 3.0/4.0 Upgrade, then you will need (for a new install) the 2.0 Upgrade license key (for CMBN) or the original license key if the game was already at version 2.0 (all other CM games and later CMBN purchases). Adding an activation to your license key disappeared quite awhile ago (newer versions of the DRM didn't work with the system) and I guess Manual Activations may have disappeared around the same time for possibly the same reason.
  19. Not sure what you're expecting... I don't think any patch is slated to come out to increase the performance of any of the CM games. Such changes are probably beyond what Battlefront would consider a 'patch'. Sometimes an 'engine upgrade' will improve the performance, but what most people may be expecting in performance increases would require an engine re-write, a task that can take years. Most recent patches have addressed data/behavior issues with the game.
  20. Perhaps respond to the ticket one more time asking for an update. This should make the ticket pop up in the ticket management system and John may respond with what he knows at the moment. I don't think there is any intentional slighting going on here. The ticket is still open and he may simply be waiting for assistance that may not be very timely in a support situation. I don't know the volume of support tickets that John deals with and it may simply be an unintentional oversight not to inform you of the status. He very likely has no idea what the time line may be for any answers from the DRM company and whatever they may have figured out.
  21. If you've been working with John on this for awhile, it may come down to some strangeness with your system and the patch. He may be trying to get Charles, the programmer, to possibly look at the issue and that may take some time. Or even more likely the issue may have been forwarded to the DRM provider's support to see what they can figure out. In either situation the response time is out of his control and he may simply be waiting for some sort of reply (and thus no new information to relay back to you). Ever since CMBN eLicense is no longer the DRM system in use (it was used for CMSF1). The new system functions quite differently from eLicense and has generally been less problematic, especially when it comes to the interference that some security software can cause. Does the patch simply not apply and CMFI remains at the old version or does CMFI not run at all now ? I assume John has had you try gsClean to clear out the activations and re-activate. What happens when you try to activate the game/modules ? Are you able to activate if you install everything without the latest patch ? Do you have any debuggers or other system analysis tools installed/running ? I know in the past it was mentioned that the DRM system may not run properly with such tools installed and running.
  22. You also can't 'patch' from 2.12 to 3.11 without installing the 3.0 Upgrade (a purchase, not a free patch). The 3.0 Upgrade and the 4.0 Upgrade have all-in-one installers available to them (downloadable from the purchase links for the 3.0 or 4.0 Upgrade purchase, labeled as 'full' installers).
  23. It depends on how much work you want to make of this, what video card you have and what your monitor's capabilities are. There are pretty much NO 16:9 / 16:10 widescreen resolutions available to the CM1 series. Monitors may either automatically stretch out the 4:3 resolutions (ruining the appearance of many things on screen by making them look wider than they are) or they may 'box' in the image by centering it on the display, resulting in black 'bars' to the left and right of the image. Whether your monitor stretches or centers the image will vary on the model and possibly settings that it may have. For monitors that don't center the image and preserve the aspect ratio there are things that you can possibly do with the video driver settings to have it center the image. In the past this was usually a feature in Nvidia drivers, but AMD may have similar capabilities now.
  24. Is this a Mac or a PC ? Even though this is a Demo of CMFI, I wonder if requesting the 'gsClean' utility from the Helpdesk might be warranted here ? This error tends to appear when there is a licensing issue between the game and the computer. Though this Demo doesn't require a license key, it appears to be suffering from a problem related to license keys. Open up a ticket with the Helpdesk by clicking on the blue '+new ticket' button in the upper right corner. Tell them the platform (PC or Mac) that you're attempting to play the Demo on and perhaps they'll send you a 'gsClean' utility that might help to get the Demo running.
  25. Do you know what else may be running in the background on your desktop ? There have been problems with the Nahimic sound control software (that may come with some motherboards/laptops). Avast should work fine with the CM games (I've used the free version for years with very few problems). With Avast installed Windows Defender should be inactive (at least its 'active protection' features should be). I'm not specifically aware of other programs causing problems, but it appears that something is interfering. This is something that was sometimes necessary for eLicense, the copy-protection system used with CMSF 1, but we may want to check it here and see if it has any effect. Type in the Search Box (depending on if it is enabled in your task bar you may need to open it with the 'magnifying glass' icon) 'control panel'. Launch this from the search results. In here go to the 'System' control panel > 'Advanced system settings' in the left-hand menu > 'Advanced' tab (default) > 'Performance' section > 'Settings' button > 'Data Execution Prevention' tab. In here the default setting should usually be 'Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only' and this is usually what you would want. However if you're seeing the problem with CM with this default setting, then you may want to try the other one, 'Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select'. With this set, click the 'Add..' button and browse for the CM executable file and add it. Click 'Apply' and then 'OK' once this is done. I believe a reboot will be necessary for this change to take full effect. This setting became necessary for eLicense because of the specific manner that it functioned. The current copy-protection system shouldn't be effected by this setting at all, but it is something to try. Regarding the mojohelpdesk, what is your STORE (NOT Forum) user account ? Usually this will be your email address that you used at the time of purchase and whatever password you may have associated with it at the time. I believe this should be the account that should be associated with the Helpdesk. You can simply put in your email address and click the 'Forgot?' link in the password box to get a password reset sent.
