  1. We never had anything to do with the CMMODS sites, so I am not sure how you are comparing the quality of browsing between the two. The Repository we're using is a component coded by a third party. It is what it is and integrates well with the rest of the site. It's not going to change anytime soon (or perhaps anytime). Use it (for free) or leave it Having said that, I never have problems finding anything. (On the other hand, I had terrible problems finding anything on the old CMMODS site. ) Searching by author is the most difficult way to do it for the reasons explained in the FAQ/Helpdesk, because you may not know the actual AUTHOR name (which may also be different from the UPLOADER name). Search for keywords and you will usually find what you need. Martin
  2. Yeah, you downloaded the wrong patch(es) if you were asked for the CD. Martin
  3. It's funny how people keep asking us this same question yet often seem perfectly happy to have all their games saved on cloud server services that require you to go online all the time to play Compared to that system, with our store you actually OWN the product, and activated games can never be deactivated, and you can reinstall as often as you wish and so forth.
  4. You could say the same about Google's search results That's a problem with ANY collection of files that exceeds a certain size. Granted, the Repository isn't offering the best interface that is possible, but it does its job, and the search function is pretty good overall. But if you really want to make sure you don't miss a mod, you'll have to go browse through the categories page by page. That's simply how it is with search results.
  5. Yeah, running the game AND running the capture on the same computer eats up resources for the game. Also, processing the video after it's been recorded via video editing software can add stutter where there is none during recording, because of small incompatibilities with codecs etc.. So the result will always be little more "stuttery". Keep in mind though that I was recording this at all Best settings at 1920x1280! Martin
  6. rocketman, see here: http://www.battlefront.com/helpdesk/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=175&nav=0,9 From the Knowledgebase for the Repository at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk
  7. You're thinking of a new release, aka base game, not a module
  8. Make sure to watch the HD versions, not just the little embedded ones on he website. www.youtube.com/battlefrontcom
  9. Modules always come with a patch "built-in", so to speak. Or in other words: when a module is released, a patch for the base game is usually not far away (the module updates the version number from e.g. 1.01 to 1.10, so a patch is required to match the versions, such as H2H play).
  10. From the www.battlefront.com/helpdesk: Where do I find my license key?
  11. No, there is not going to be a printed manual for the commonwealth module. My comment about the manuals was general in nature.
  12. You won't have problems. While we do not usually reprint manuals once they are sold out, there is never going to be a shortage of DVDs to send out
  13. Errr... no. Commonwealth ships out of our EU warehouse in Germany. No customs for that.
  14. Drew, you have received responses to each and every one of your inquiries within minutes. Check your tickets at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk if you didn't get the email notifications of new replies posted. I also responded to BOTH of your emails from this morning within minutes. The 365 days download limit is not fine print, but is mentioned everywhere you look for it (e.g. the terms and conditions or the knowledgebase or your order details in your online account). It is legal and in fact very common practice with most ecommerce stores out there. We do not offer infinite digital storage and you do not pay for it. Which is why we're offering mail order options (in plain language: a disc by mail) AND unlike purely digital storefronts, we also place no restrictions on copying the setup files for backup and reinstallation purposes, and strongly recommend it. You have also been advised that a) we make exceptions when your download period just expired recently (not in your case, however, it's 7 months over the limit) and even in these cases we offer a one-time $5 extension. The $5 covers our bandwidth cost, and you get a full year (or up to 10 downloads). Not that you need more than one, though, because again, the setup files are free to copy and backup AND your game is in no way tied to some online account or other system that requires you to be online. Martin
  15. Announcements have automated expiry dates. Plus, they disappear from the "What's New" list after appearing there once (but they remain visible on top of the forum(s) where they were posted. The 4-6 weeks is standard and tested, and while we may beat it occasionally by a week or a few days (we've done it before), it's unlikely that we'll beat it by several weeks Martin
  16. If you point the LOS tool on the ground (and not an enemy unit), then it's tracking the LOS to the ground. Since you are pointing the LOS tool inside a wheat field in the screenshot you have taken, and it's not possible for your unit to see what is lying on the ground inside the wheat, the LOS tool shows the LOS as blocked. That's correct. This has nothing to do with being able to see a UNIT that is BEHIND the wheat field. Notice also that the LOS tool is not pointing to the spot you are indicating in your first screenshot at all, but to a wheat field way behind and downslope (as far as I can make out in the screens). Martin
  17. The error indicates that your patch install went wrong, obviously. Perhaps you think you installed in the right place but didn't? www.battlefront.com/helpdesk can help you out.
  18. It implies that WW2 ground combat is different from 2011 ground combat? You guys should have seen the training exercise Steve attended last year. Actual company commanders were getting slaughtered in CMSF. What it shows if you ask me is that there is a training gap that CM would help fill in today's military training (and it does so in some very limited classroom settings, in fact), nothing else.
  19. WAR does have a massive and frustrating learning curve. Kip, +1,000,000. Most new players coming from twitchy RTS or FPS games will attempt to play way too fast, and will find CM frustrating. You will need a longer attention span and will have to learn not to expect the instant gratification that most mainstream games are programmed for these days. In other words, learn to slow down and cope with losses.
  20. We will release an updated CMBN demo around the time that the module is ready for release. It will include a Commonwealth scenario (at least one). The concept is the same as with the CMSF demo(s), which were updated through the three module releases. Download-only purchases will be available when the module is released. Also "mail only" purchases will be available then. (And to make this a comprehensive answer, "Download&Mail" will of course also still be available, which is the same that you get when you preorder, except it will cost an additional $10)
  21. Which makes a lot of sense if you think about it. Generally, those players will fare best in CMBN that assume that things work that work in the real world, and vice versa. It's not perfect in all circumstances, but you will get the best game results if you play that way. Move at high speed 2 meters behind another vehicle? Not a good idea. Move at high speed through a narrow opening in the bocage? Not a good idea. Run out into the open against an MG or ary barrage? Not a good idea. Not shift positions for prolonged time once spotted by the enemy? Not a good idea (the enemy has arty spotters, too). The list of such common sense things to do and things to don't (heh, I invented that right now!) is long, and applying it to the game, rather than looking for game specific solutions will work best more often than it does not.
  22. You may be seeing C&C in action, rather than spotting. Did you notice that sometimes soldiers will fire at an enemy you cannot see? That's because they're out of contact and you, the player (and the commander) only get the info with a delay. But the TacAI sees (and acts) independently of that.
  23. "A couple of times" is perfectly realistic. "All the time" wouldn't be. But keep in mind that crews DO have vision ports and they are ACTIVELY looking for threats on the flanks. In smoke. In cover. It's what their nightmares are about. CMBN simulates blind spots and fields of vision extremely well. It in fact tracks the crewmember's field of vision and his head movement through available vision slots. What you see is what you get. There was a post some while ago from Steve about a bug where some of the vision wasn't lined up correctly with the tank model that has more details about how the engine works, look it up if you're interested. What people seem to forget is that "tanks are blind" does not simplify to "they don't see anything all the time". There are blind spots and there are spots that are being actively monitored even from a buttoned up tank. CMBN doesn't simply make a tank "blind' like many other games, but instead tracks this IN DETAIL. And blind as a tank can be, if a crewman happens to be looking at the right place at the right time, then yes, he'll spot a hidden infantry soldier in smoke. If it happens "a couple of times", then this is perfectly realistic.
