  1. Reinstall the patch(es) and make sure that you launch the installer as administrator. That may help get around your Windows user permissions restrictions.
  2. The online manuals are meant to give you a fancy preview and possibly to look up something specific (e.g. if there is an updated version), they are not meant to be read page to page. They are mainly pre-release (for pre-order customers, or if you're waiting for a demo or full version to finish downloading ). As others pointed out, all of our games (and most demos) come with PDF manuals.
  3. Thejetset, We understand the concept and have had similar offers over the years. We have not, and still do not, want to participate in such a campaign, either officially or unofficially. Based on our experience and knowledge of our market, we do not feel this is a good fit for us. I am closing this thread. Martin
  4. Actually, most of our (newly released) games do come with printed manuals. At least until they sell out.
  5. He was able to download from his work PC yesterday already.
  6. Oh, and a "403 forbidden" CAN happen (though it's rare) if your download manager is set up to open way too many simultaneous connections. Most download managers use 3 or 5 or so, and that is fine (and it does speed up the download tremendously), but if you set it to, I don't know, 100 or something like that, you *may* get a 403 thrown out. I've only seen it a couple of times in the 5 years or so we're using our global content delivery network (it's not a server but a server cloud, the new "in" term I guess).
  7. spec124, from the error description I would guess that your ISP had problems with its DNS routing. The fact that you managed to download without problems from work seems to confirm this, too.
  8. Our licensing model allows you to have each game you buy from us to be installed AND ACTIVATED on up to 2 computers (not just PC, but also Mac ) at the same time. Each license key is configured so that you should have no problems achieving this. More about licensing in our Knowledgebase at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk. Click on Knowledgebase, or use the Search function (it's pretty good).
  9. The key is NOT to hide your units (instead, as someone pointed out, give them very short target arcs to keep them from firing). Hiding means exactly that - stay out of sight, keep your head down etc. This impairs spotting capabilities noticeably.
  10. The Steelbook Limited Edition was a special situation because it would not have been possible to stock up both the US and EU locations at the same time. So we had to ship all preorders from one place, which naturally was the US location. The recent release of Strategic Command WWII Global Conflict GOLD already was handled differently (i.e. hardgoods are shipped from both the EU and the US warehouse). And it looks so farthat Commonwealth will be the same. This means that there will be no extra duties nor VAT or anything of that sort. Mind you, the UK import tax is something that applies for ANY ex-EU import to the UK above 15 GBP (or so... I don't recall the exact value right now). But only the UK has this (as far as I know). For other countries, usually you only have to pay your local VAT (the % of which depends on what your country's VAT is at right now), if even that; it's a bit of a hit and miss as far as your local customs is concerned. We do have to declare ALL shipment values correctly, but often enough your local customs may not pay attention or not care etc. We WILL be sending out future releases from US warehouses occasionally. This will apply to any release with a printed manual. It is simply cost-prohibitive to print manuals in more than one location these days, noone would be willing to pay for that added cost! But Commonwealth is currently not planned to have a printed manual, so it can be produced and shipped out of Germany and the US (more or less) simultaneously. Martin
  11. This Knowledgebase article explains what is happening: http://www.battlefront.com/helpdesk/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=178&nav=0 My guess is that after your recent move, you didn't update your billing address with your credit card company, and therefore your credit card is being declined because your billing address doesn't match. This extra address check (there are a couple of other things in addition to the address that are being checked, too) is for additional security for YOU, the customer (if someone steals your card but don't know your personal address, they can't use it), as well as US (the cost for fraudulant orders sticks with the merchant). So what you need to do is either change your billing address in your online account at www.battlefront.com, or change it with your credit card company (call the number on the back of your card).
  12. CMBN is not being sold in retail anywhere. As with previous releases this is a deliberate decision by us and part of Battlefront's business strategy (successful now in its 11th year). CMBN will be coming to retail at some point, maybe in a year or two? Not in retail, but we offered a printed manual (and even a Limited Steelbook® edition) on release. (Un)fortunately, these sold our within a couple of weeks of release. We do plan to print a new manual, btw, which would be fully updated and available with the first Normandy upgrade (not module). Martin
  13. BTW... No, it didn't find any trojans and viruses (there are none). You have "Heuristic" scanning enabled (it is enabled by default) which is equivalent to "guessing". AVG then flags anything that it doesn't understand, and since our games are encrypted as a protection against hackers and it cannot decode the encryption, you get this 'false positive'. Heuristic scanning can be useful, but it is prone to false positives. You can disable it, or if you prefer to keep it, you should at least make sure that it doesn't act automatically (e.g. by removing the file right away), but instead prompts you what to do, so you can indeed set an exception for a file or path that you know is clean (like our games). Martin
  14. There is no 10 licenses limit. There is a 10 download limit, but that has nothing to do with your license activations. Activations are in fact unlimited (in the sense that there is no total limit), although you can only have 2 AT THE SAME TIME. In order to free up your license key, you have to UNLICENSE it. Our Knowledgebase at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk contains all the necessary details (as well as the game's manual, I believe); look in the "eLicense" category, or search for "unlicense". If you cannot unlicense for some reason, then you can also request a reset from us. Go to the www.battlefront.com/helpdesk and click on "Submit Ticket". Make sure to include your license key
  15. That's far from the truth. Actual bugs are solved in (free) patches. That's a very important part of our business philosophy at Battlefront. What people mean when they talk about the next game are entirely new features. And that is true... major new features are introduced with major new titles only (hey, we need to somehow pay our bills!) Now, some people may have differing opinions on what a bug is or what a feature is. Don't let that fool you or keep you from playing the best wargame in the market! As others pointed out, check out what you get for yourself and make up your own mind: http://www.battlefront.com/demos Martin
  16. The Manual Licensing process is a workaround for when you can't do the usual one click online activation (mainly if your PC isn't connected to the internet). For security reasons it involves more back and forth, yes. But it's often still a quicker workaround than trying to figure out your Proxy or firewall settings.
  17. eLicense online activation requires two way communication with the activation server. There are various reasons why this may fail (not to mention how Norton 360 may not be 'down' even if you think it is). Do the Manual Licensing procedure instead. If you can open a webpage in a browser, then you can do that.
  18. Right, it's technically not a problem with our games, it's a problem with your anti-virus program settings. If you let your AV run heuristic scanning, you have to accept certain false positives. You're asking your AV program to guess, and it will not guess right 100% of the time. You have to adjust your AV settings to make it work. On my end, I have heuristic scanning enabled as well (it can be useful), but I have set it so that it never acts without my approval (i.e. it only prompts for action), and I also have certain known programs that I know are ok whitelisted. Martin
  19. The file is not a virus. So there is no need to do anything. If you remove the file, then the game won't run. So simply choose to ignore it, or whitelist it, or shut off heuristic scanning. How to do this depends on what AV you are using, and you will have to contact the people who made the AV you're using for instructions (we have instructions for a few of the common programs in our Knowledgebase I think).
  20. The "Heur" in "Win32/Heur" stands for "heuristic". This basically means "guessing". In other words, it's not a known virus but something that looks iffy to the anti-virus program. This can be a useful option, but it's also prone to "false positives". Well, guess what, the game is encrypted as a protection against hackers and the anti-virus can't decode it, so it simply assumes the worst. This happens with all encrypted games at one point or another. You have a couple of options basically: - disable heuristic scanning in your AV program - set an exception for the program in question ("whitelist") Contacting your AV software vendor and letting them know about this "false positive" will also ensure that they will add it to their next virus definitions and make it go away. Our Knowledgebase at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk also has a number of details about anti-virus problems and what you can do about them.
  21. Our patch page has a link to 1.06, which is the latest patch available from them at the moment. There will be a patch 1.07 soon I assume.
  22. This isn't entirely correct. Printed manuals ARE available for most of our new releases. In fact, we are one of the few companies left over that offers printed manuals, at all. The last one for Normandy came in at a hefty 200 pages, too. However, once a manual is out of print, we usually do not reprint it anymore. The cost to keep printed manuals available months or years after release is way too high compared to the interest in them. PS. The solution is to print yourself or have it printed for you. Our new releases include a print-friendly PDF (black text on white background) to that end.
