Kozlice got a reaction from General Liederkranz in Vehicle smoke
Combat Mission manual is pretty comprehensive and easy to read and understand, but I suppose, there are a few topics around like this one, that could make a nice addition to it

It's supposed to work this way, to cover advancing infantry:

Kozlice reacted to Badger73 in DRUMS OF WAR TOURNAMENT *MID JAN LAUNCH*
You're confusing tournaments @MeatEtr. You picked the prize from the "Big Ass Kettledrums of War" tourny but you only won the measly "Drums of War" competition.
Here's the prize you merit instead.

Kozlice got a reaction from Holdit in New features curiosity
Would be nice to be able fire mortars and automatic grenade launchers somewhat further behind their line of sight.
Would also be nice to have the "review" stage combined with "giving orders" stage, as sometimes it is difficult to keep track of what happened in the last turn in that particular location to give orders to the troops located there. In bigger battles (battalion+), I actually have to write it down

Are not the two related? Should one not always conduct a full reconnaissance while approaching the objective?

Kozlice reacted to MOS:96B2P in Balconies: Tweaks?
Below is my TACSOP for when I want a team, inside a building, to stay away from a certain wall. It will keep a team from going to that wall (balcony) while still being able to spot out of that side of the room. Can be used because of a balcony or some other reason.
1. Give team a circular Target Arc about the size of the building.
2. Slow team into the building & then to the desired floor.
3. Give desired floor waypoint a Target Arc out the reverse wall.1
4. 2nd turn give the team a permanent Pause3 order.
5. Give team a 32m 360oTarget Arc2 and consider Hide.
6. When ready to engage cancel Target Arc & Hide.4
Notes: 1)The team will have LOS out the forward wall of the building from the reverse wall. This will also keep the team from entering a balcony on forward wall. 2)A 360oTarget Arc is used to prevent the OpFor from approaching outside a wedge arc & does not affect observation. 3)Pause keeps the team from moving to forward wall & entering balconies. 4)Team will auto cancel Pause and move to forward wall to shoot.

Interesting article from the armour magazine on Russian/Soviet recce in force tactics - useful for application at the CM level and very applicable

Kozlice reacted to umlaut in Antony Beevor's view on War Films
Yes, it was a joke. I quit watching it after about half an hour. Found it an utter waste of time.
Speaking generally about WWII movies, I find that the german ones are usually the best. I think this is because the germans (for obvious historical reasons) cannot base their stories on same old "Sergeant X saves the day and at the end we all salute the flag and shed a tear"-clichés that seems to be all Hollywood is capable of producing.
The germans have to focus on a realistic story about real people in a real war. Stuff that is hard to press into a movie industry template filled with good vs evil stereotypes. The germans have to focus on a good script. And if the script is good, then the movies usually turns out to be too.
In Hollywood it seems that the script is much less important than the CGI.

Kozlice reacted to DerKommissar in Antony Beevor's view on War Films
90s Stalingrad movie was superb and thoroughly entertaining, except the obligational morality tale. As Eastern Front films go:
I absolutely adore the Liberation series. I have never seen combined arms battle scenes like that. The ATG sequence was fantastic. Valkyrie nicked the Schtaufenberg bit from this series, scene for scene. Except Valkyrie much longer and filled with silly Tom Cruise shenanigans (Tom wasn't too bad in this one). Is it historically accurate? I doubt it, a bit too much of "the national spirit" that's akin to Hollywood films. It does feel authentic, though -- even if it had a bunch of cold war tanks cosplaying as panzers.
The Soviet film industry took a lot of these movies seriously. At War as at War and Only Old Men Go To Battle are fantastic, and you can see them on youtube with english subtitles!
It's also important to note that I enjoyed Patton, Der Untergang and A Bridge too Far. I can overlook glaring historical inaccuracies, if the filmakers do their best to make it feel authentic. Also, a good story and great casting help!

Kozlice reacted to Lethaface in A long delayed update
Ah yes, apple. It 'just works' like that I guess. 😁
Steam is quite handy for storing licenses, updates, etc. Basically it's very user friendly, at least to most users. 🤣
I don't see the point of discussing CM on steam though. People in the know decide what's best for the company. I'm no BF shareholder so I'm not even going to contemplate second guessing BF.C business decisions like these.
Would I like CM on steam? Yes, why not would be easy for me.
Does it really matter to me? Nah

Kozlice reacted to Lethaface in What will the next CM be?
Thanks for the .pdf. In your summary you have missed 'illegal state repression', which is mentioned in the .pdf. The .pdf also opens with the statement ''Terrorism is a contested concept", rightly so imo.
To get back to the subject and why I agree with Kozlice: irregular forces supportive of the Iranian regime operating inside Iran against military forces of belligerent nations hostile to Iran, are not to be called terrorists. Whatever the tactics they use, be it kamikaze strikes etc. Besides, when a Syrian in The Netherlands cuts down a few people with a knife while under psychosis he's a terrorist. While if depressed Hendrik-Jan guns down a bunch of people at the mall with a semi-auto rifle, he's just a psycho. Find the differences!
Anywayz,
For the next CM I would like a modern(ish) ERA with Chinese forces simulated. For example a hypothetical invasion of Taiwan, and a chance for US 'vacationers' (among others) to show up.

Damn...I am sorry for opening this Pandora's box.

I know I am being pedantic, but how would anyone be a "terrorist" in that hypothetical conflict? Sorry, but **** that brown-people-hating term

Kozlice reacted to MOS:96B2P in New Scenario: Tactical Operations Center
Going through what I hope is the last Beta test. Long scenario (static campaign) so it takes awhile. But it's looking good so far. Just minor easy to tweak stuff so far. Thanks for the interest.
