meade95
Rookie here -Any quick way to see on the map were firefight is happening? I'm not so hot yet with handling the camera angles.......is there a quick way to see where / who is in a firefight...... Also, any advice on getting use to the camera / game angles (do many use the mouse?) Thanks
purpheart23
No, there is now way to quickly switch to or see a firefight in real time, if you're plaing wego then you can rewind and see where the fight is happening. Other than that you just need to pay strict attention to your forces and what they are doing. p.s. as far as the camera angles go, practice makes perfect.
NefariousKoel
The only thing I fight with, after getting used to the camera controls, is pivoting the camera around fast enough. I use ctrl-click to zoom to a map location instantly and often.
Moon
Tip: If you need to pivot 180 degrees, you can use the V hotkey to "reverse view" immediately.
Other Means
Click on a unit and press tab to go to it. Find one facing the direction you want and tab to it - that's what I do.
JohnO
What I would like, is to assign F keys to different units. When I think there is a firefight in one area that I know, I would like to hit one of the F keys to take me there.

meade95
Have I missed it? Or is there a quick way to assign (say a #) for differing groups / units (for quick reference / jump to them). In Real Time it is quite difficult to keep track of all your units by swinging around camera angles.... And there isn't a "satalite view / map" ...is there? (outside of zooming up).
LongLeftFlank
In a thread a while back, I suggested having a "stock ticker" at the bottom of the screen showing quick messages like "3/A Platoon is taking small arms" / "11 Platoon Stryker hit by RPG"... it would be even more useful to be able to click the message and skip instantly to the unit in question but that would take some programming to do.

You can navigate units by clicking the units information, but it's not intuitive enough to use regularly, at least not for me. Otherwise.... Nope. That is one thing I have mentioned in the past. I would love to be able to see all of my units on a list at a glance, be able to "group" them, and be able to jump to any unit or group. Perfection would be a mixture of medieval total war and company of heroes. Edit: No overhead map either. Speaking of maps, adding the N to the map like old school cm would be welcome for me. I can never remember whether the red or the white part of the needle is North! Edit 2: (sorry). LongLeftFlank, that is an outstanding idea.
MikeyD
If I'm hearing gunfire but don't know where its coming from I often start clicking distant icons to see if anyone's being 'supressed'. That usually puts me where the action is. If my eyesight were better I guess I could click around the icons and see who in the list at the bottom-right screen is 'firing'.
SlowMotion
I would love to be able to see all of my units on a list at a glance, be able to "group" them, and be able to jump to any unit or group. If I play, unit groupings tend to change as time passes. Because of this I'd like more somekind of "map position shortcut" system. One could have a small list of locations on the map. You could jump to any saved location by pressing a key or something. Then as things proceed you could change the position of those shortcuts. Here's a picture where I drew three shortcuts S1-S3 with yellow. http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z213/r31070021/CMSF/map_shortcuts.jpg I think this would be useful when using big maps, maps with high buildings or when playing in real time mode.
Pandur
And there isn't a "satalite view / map" ...is there? (outside of zooming up). if it happens that you have shadows "off" than zooming out wont be too helpfull as the terrain vanishes at a rather low distance. if you have shadows "on" id say that zooming out all the way is actualy the same as a "satelite view" map. the camera must be at around 600 to 1000m view height and you see the whole map if it isnt super huge. i have shadows off, but the few times i want to see the map from high up i hit "Alt" + "W" and turn on shadows for a moment, zoom out, take a look and than i turn shadown off again.
