Grenades? Do They Exist?

Not talking about RPGs, I know they exist in the game

I am talking about hand grenades. Heck, my little infantry dudes even have a ammo bar for them, but I have never seen them throw one, ever. Even when it would make a lot of sense to do so. Come to think of it, never seen them use the "rifle grenades" of the M203 either...

Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

Yes they do. I've seen them used inside buildings.

My guys kept throwing them out the window though.

I've seen them use both, numerous times. Sometimes using hand grenades to excess, if that's possible.

My guys use their 203s when I target something but I'm not sure if they use them on their own. I don't think I have seen a handgrenade used yet though.

I think the best time to see grenades is when you area target a building that's at a kind of reverse slope. Your guys can see it, but can't target it with small arms. They tend to chuck grenades when I do that.

Try targeting a building that is the same size as a building that your troops occupy. Have them on the roof. Give them an area target command on a building that is the same size, but has another building in between the two.

Yea I see hand grenades used in CQC all the time. They're definitely functional. In fact you should even see a soldier's status change to say "throwing grenade" when they do it.

I have never seen that and I have had some pretty epic CQB encounters. Maybe I just missed it.

For rifle grenade launcher I find they're most likely to be used when your unit's targetting someone at the outer performance envelope of the 5.56 carbine. I've seen a few loooooooooong lucky shots with grenade launcher.

I only recently discovered the Syrians have their own under-barrel grenade launcher! Only comes with well equipped Special Forces though (I think). Matches an old Soviet design for the AK that i had only seen one photo of before.

Hand grenades are definitely used. I think using "Light Fire" (Y button instead of T button) may increase the chance they will lob them. The target needs to be pretty close though, probably within 50m.

I had an IED trigger man inside a building. Some enemy soldiers were crawling near the building. When I used Target command, nothing happened. When I used Area fire command, the trigger man used his hand grenades.

Yep, saw a Syrian crewman get wasted by a hand grenade in one of my first games. Both he and the soldier were in a building.

I noticed in one scen when setting an area fire command at close range, my US squad would huck grenades like there was no tomorrow. Though they did it AT a tall wall instead of over the wall.

I have seen them also,,especially on the situation that Bradley describes with the building in between.

The only time I have seen gernades used is in close combat. I made the mistake of taking my guys into a building right as they ran out of ammo. They lobbed a few gernades and killed everyone inside since they were in the same room as the bad guys. The 203 rounds are a different story. I only see and hear them fired only if I target an enemy, otherwise they don't seem too inclined to use them.

Grenade are only used in close range.

Rule of thumb: I always try to prevent any kind of close range engagement.

The closer you get to your enemy, the greater is the "equalizer".
