  1. I'll see if I can find you a picture of the crazy solutions the Army came up with in Iraq for protecting TC's. We had some odd looking devices strapped to the turrets so you could be unbuttoned and safe from sniper fire. Look at this.
  2. Not all of us Southerners talk like we're refugees from a Antebellum novel, some of us talk like Popcorn Sutton.
  3. Paper Tiger, I'm a huge fan of this campaign and would definitely play through it again just to see the changes. Do your worst, sir.
  4. I lose tank commanders like you wouldn't believe. I've been sending out "name-tape defilade" instructions to my subordinates but the boots on the ground have been ignoring my orders.
  5. Yeah, there are a lot of ACW mods for Total War games. They tend to be just skins without any campaign mode.
  6. You can park the jeep beside friendly troops and they'll share ammunition without actually unloading it.
  7. This thing makes PBEM so smooth that I think Battlefront would be smart to implement it into their game somehow.
  8. Well, *******s, you made me dig up my old email address and download Take Command 2. Good job. Seriously though, how's that Scourge of War?
  9. I've played some pretty faithful recreations of the battle in some fairly realistic first person shooters such as Darkest Hour. They're brutal. It's all smoke and chaos with bodies piling up until someone gets lucky enough to break a defense. Then it's a mad dash to find the next wall of defenders who make you pay for the ground.
  10. I had something similar happen when I had a jeep parked where one of my riflemen wanted to line up. Instead of moving nearby, he began sprinting across the map. It was weird.
  11. If you have the ammo, Wreck gives some good advice. Advance through the trees behind a wall of lead. If you can support from stationary units, even inaccurately, all the better.
  12. Also, just because you have an ATG crew flanked and under fire, don't expect that they will fall easily. ATG crews are incredibly resilient and hard to destroy.
  13. Every time I play Hearts of Iron 3, I end up doing some weird combination of events which makes the allies land in Norway.
  14. It's 42. There was a really in depth research project that figured this out.
  15. Is there any way to do a sort of if then else statement with objectives? Say, if you hold the objective, then all forces are considered to be preserved and exited; otherwise you must exit to maintain those units.
  16. JonS, That's exactly the sort of the thing I was thinking of to start it off with. Winner of the meeting engagement attacks the loser as he tries to hold for reinforcements. If you made exit objectives a low value in comparison to the actual objectives, could you balance out the need to preserve your forces with the draw of actually winning the objective?
  17. Has anyone here tried to play or create a balanced H2H campaign? I would like to make one where the battles have some consequence for the PBEM crowd. I want to know what works and what does not. I'd like to hear if anyone has any tips or warnings that they could come up with for building one of these. I was thinking about a few points: Start with a meeting engagement to get the ball rolling Branching campaign paths available for each battle depending on who wins Persistent forces with resupply and reinforcements to help balance the sides and keep it fun after a loss Exit zones to help preserve forces in the face of defeats(in other words, if you can't take the objective then you had best manage a decent retreat before you call the ceasefire) Minimum of three battles before the campaign ends (but I would like to shoot for more) Any input or advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated.
  18. It would be great if they just fixed the bug. I'm sure they will eventually.
  19. I had a lot of bullet sponges in that match but not much in the way of artillery support. My armor completely collapsed on my left flank and Sakai spent the next fifteen minutes or so practicing his Z patterns and HE employment on infantry targets. It wasn't until I was able to shift my right flank armor over to destroy his tanks, which was no easy task, that we finally had a true stalemate. My men paid for that objective with a river of blood.
  20. I was shooting rounds at random buildings trying to recon by fire and hopefully kill some tank crews. Several of the rounds went through a barn completely and had a noticeable metallic thunk of impacting something armored on the other side. My tank can't see this thing being hit, of course, and continues to area fire. Probably the most shot up tank in the history of Combat Mission. For about a minute and a half, nothing but continuous shells smashing into and eventually burning mystery tank.
  21. For me, I got sold on the pitch that I could ride around engaging vehicles with a 25mm, tanks with a TOW missile, infantry with the coax, enemy aircraft with the Stinger and still have the opportunity to dismount and go kick in doors. The Bradley never affords anyone with a great deal of mental relaxation due to the fact that an RPG might not be stopped by the armor. It's an infantry fighting vehicle and not much else. If you want to see some 19K's at their worst, go talk to them a day after that invincible mega tank has cooked off on MSR Tampa.
  22. Don't deploy to Iraq. Even the airborne was rolling around in trucks and 1114's waiting to get hit by something. At least in armor, you had a chance of surviving all but the most devious attacks.
  23. The one thing, other than BioChemical weapons, that I feared in a Bradley was burning inside the vehicle. Everything else seemed like a good way to go in comparison.
