Who's The Best?: CM's Top Commanders

Recommended Posts

In real life, opposing commanders might've known a thing or two about their foe on the other side of the battlefield. How do they conduct their attack? What are their strenths? What are their weaknesses?

I remember when I was playing CC2 (that's Close Combat 2 for those of you just entering the WWII tactical gaming world) our community was always talking about the top players, their abilities, what kinds of maps they like to use, etc. I don't think we have that kind of dialogue here partly because most of us play PBEM games and have yet to play the same person twice.

The TCP players on the other hand have played many a game and have a better vantage point to build opinions about the top dogs out there since they've probably played them more than once.

I'd like to know some of the people who I should be watching out for when I set up my next game. Why are they so good? What type of forces do they like to use and what are their strenths and weaknesses? Are they on a ladder or do they just play for fun?

Open your mouth and share some tales...

Let's see...

  • Moriarty is the best at rolling over and playing dead</font>
  • Mace is best if sheep are involved</font>
  • Seanachai is best at being long winded</font>
  • Andreas (aka Germanboy) is best at spelling</font>
  • Slapdragon is best at pissing people off (now that Lewis is gone)</font>
  • Mensch is best at being crazy as a tree full of rats</font>
  • Meeks (aka Multitude of Hampsters) is best best at overall insanity</font>
  • Peng is a myth, so he doesn't count</font>
  • Goanna is best at being Oztralian... so I guess that's best at nothing</font>
  • Grog Dorosh is best at being Canadian... see Goanna above</font>
  • Yeknod... best donkey in the padock</font>
  • Joe Shaw... best rules lawyer around</font>

The list is endless

I thought I was the ONLY Canadi....ah, I see.

Forgot I mentioned it.

I thought I was best at starting CM websites and then never updating them but leaving them pompously hanging in my sig anyway?

Other honourable mentions:

JasonC is best at "utilizing" BTS' bandwidth.

Panzer Leader is best at talking about GD with me.

Mary Tyler Moore is best at turning the world on with a smile.

Ah, Grog Dorosh. How you puzzle us.

Firstly, talking about anything, even Groß Deutschland, with Panzer Leader, is a sign of mental instability.

As for your trouble with MTM, there are many fine counselors now able to prescribe medications to keep you from 'smiling' too soon.

Perhaps if you think about cricket while you and Panzer Leader are discussing GD, her smile won't cause you to return to your wardrobe in embarrassment.

As for 'best' CM players, isn't this a topic for the Opponent Finders thread, or the forums on the various ladders?

Ladder play.

What a very focused way to direct your consciousness.

Like a gang that was neither bright enough to be able to, nor stupid enough to want to obsess about their SAT scores; and lusting after belonging to the Chess Club, while disdaining it because they didn't wear leather.

I thought that was the description of all these tourney players?

I do think you have a lovely double-ess, by the way.

Not to out grog you or anything but I believe its called and est-set (phonetically anyway)

Berli is the best user of ineffectual smoke screens.

bauhaus is the best at having a single turn that guts his whole match.

Seanachai is tops at the whole Don Quixote thing.

Persephone is the best battlefield reporter.

Hiram excels at quitting games part way through.

Stuka has the best co-pilot.

OGSF writes the clearest, most concise AARs

Kitty looks the best in her uniform, and

YK2 the best out (if Persephones photos are to be believed anyway)
