Nidan1
Last night I fired up my CMBO CD, and began playing the Stoumont Operation as the Germans. It has been over a year since I have played CMBO, and it was great to get back to the game that got me hooked into this series. While CMBB and CMAK are great games, CMBO seems to have an intensity that neither of the other two have. Especially when artillery starts raining down on you, and the screen shake is on, and your poor pixeltruppen start heading for cover. While the new modeling for infantry reaction to being under fire is probably more realistic, the old CMBO game flow is a lot more FUN. You are not spending each turn stopping your men from sneaking off the map, or running frantically INTO enemy fire. I really enjoyed seeing the CMBO mods again, you guys that do that kind of work are to be commended, and when you compare the original issue of CMBO and then see how the mods had changed it, the transformation is stunning. I can't wait to get back to it tonight....well after I get all my CMBB and CMAK PBEMs out.
Treeburst155
CMBO is more "beer & pretzels" in nature. It's a great game. The existence of CMBB and CMAK don't change that fact. Treeburst155 out.
Pzman
Indeed. Although I haven't played CMBO in the last 4-6 months, every now and then its fun to go back and play a battle or two just to remind me what got the ball rolling.

1/506 Medic
Steel Panthers was a fun game the one thing I liked most about the series was the span they covered and that you could buy newer type units as the years progressed to replace your old beat up destroyed ones.

Derfel
[shameless self-promotion] If you feel CMBO nostalgic this might interest you: On the Byte Battler ] site you can now find a CMAK version of the old favorite "All or Nothing". You were lucky to have that! When I was ten, all I had was an empty box of matches and a string that was ripped in half.

securityguard
CMBO was awesome for its time. I can't play it anymore (CMBB and CMAK just sorta over shadow it) but I agree, it definately had a more actiony feel. It drew me into the series and I am glad they took a more realistic response for the later titles.
Seanachai
I love to read the odd Emrys post even now. The existence of Treeburst155 doesn't change that.

Frenchy
Hey - I still play Richtofen's War...I too play CMBO occasionally. It is fun to go back to every now and then.
Brent Pollock
Nah - I gave my copy to my son when I realised I was playing nothing but CMBB/CMAK and LOVIN' IT! Hmmm...I wonder if he'd have the patience for RW...he's only 11...but I think that's when I bought it...but I couldn't get any of my friends to stick with it long enough. Dad and I had great fun with it, though.
