Aaaahhh, Sweeeet!

Thanks for the fine pics!

One day in April 1992 I drove past the entrance and thought... I'm in the UK, I really should stop here. I asked the 3 girls I was travelling with if they'd like to stop and check out some tanks... They just looked at me...

12 years later my missus says, "Sure we coulda stopped. We woulda just picked you up later..."

What was it C.S. Lewis said?

:(

Nice photos. I like the way you kept going back to the King Tiger! Is that Tiger I the one that has been restored to running condition? A while back I went to the armoured museum in Saumur France. They have some excellent stuff there - including a King Tiger and a Panther in running condition. Had a day there with a mate - took 400 photos between us. As soon as I would out how to get them onto the net, I'll post a link.

If you would you could post them on the gallery on my site.

Yes it's the Tiger 131 that was restored.

Pretty impressive piece of machinery.

Also, I wonder if anyone ever felt safe driving around the battlefield into one of those.

Look pretty thin to me.

In any case, the quality and current state of the various pieces is outstanding. Very well preserved. Remind me of a Pz IV (ausf J IIRC) in Saumur, look as if it drove straight out of the factory into the museum. It's good to know some people are dedicated at preserving these pieces of hardware.

Nice pictures folke. Thanks.

In this outside shot I see some smoke around the M4. Was it firing a demonstration round?

M4 tank

Do they have any tanks at the museum that you could climb inside?

Rob

That's just the smoke from the engine. The main gun makes loads more smoke than that.

They have a couple of cutaway tanks that you can look inside but nothing where you can really get inside.

I've been to Bovington twice now. My pictures came out much worse than Folke's because I suck at taking photos and I have a cheaparse camera with a poor flash. You'd be amazed just how bad the lighting is for photography inside the main buildings.
