Michael Emrys
The odd thing about that in this case is that the ramming is purely voluntary. There was an open door he was invited to use. Some people just don't feel right about that, I guess. Michael
chashm
Meanwhile, Back on the subject, I think that the theory that the nature of the game reflecting the nature of the forums has some merit. With CM geing a slower, more calculating game of patience, it appeals to the kind of folk who will (at least most of the time) THINK about a post before submitting it. The level of knowledge, trivia, arcana and out right BS displayed at this sight is truly...what's the word, oh yeah, staggering. I suspect that people will generally post an answer if they really feel they have an answer. For this, I am impressed. Too often when you ask a question at other forums, you get your ass handed back to you. Not here, no sir. As a final note, I think that one of the things that makes this site so nice....Canadians!!!!

And yet for all of the combined knowledge of these people we don't have a single person of any reknown among us. Do you truly believe anyone with this much time on their hands (i.e. to waste the time it takes to write 10,000 or more posts) is somebody worthy of respect. No. Would a wise man behave in this manner? The truth is that these people know that they are a dime a dozen in the real world and choose to stay in here where it's safe. Sure, amongst us normal folk who view video games and such as passtimes (because that's what they are), these people may actually appear to know "a great deal", but of course, all of us would if we dedicated the kind of time to the cause that they do.

I can think of at least one person who posts here who has had books published, then of course there is the BFC crew, who make these world-renowned games. Some I've met do quite well in "Real Life", specialising in other subjects. Just to pick on a point "these people may actually appear to know "a great deal", but of course, all of us would if we dedicated the kind of time to the cause that they do." What in the world makes you think that this isn't true of almost anything? If you want to be bitter, chew on a lemon, don't bring it in here and show your ignorance. chashm
oh, my such cynicism, such bitterness, I make a positive statement and someone tries to hand my ass back to me. I agree that a lot of people are here because of "safety" but gee golly willakers, it's our hobby, it's supposed to be safe. It's a haven of people with a common interest. Why are you here? You see this software as a pastime, well so do we all,(except of course, the people who work for battlefront). It is a fine game that allows those who chose to the oppertunity to replay some small scale battles of the war. That's the appeal. There are of cousre those who see it as a sophisticated shooter, well, more power to them, it fills that role as well. Dime a dozen....Whaaaaaa!!!??!??? Hands up people who, before the internet, could find a dozen people in thier immediate area to play? I didn't think so... "Appear to know" , hah! Do know... I have been an amateur historian since I was a lad, and I can tell you that, there is a lot more than the appearence of knowledge here. Please, friend, don't try and hand my ass back to me, you can't carry the weight

Ah, but what you don't know Happy chashm, is that Reincarbonated is completely right. He sees right through us. Basically, me, Kip, JonS, flamingknives, and David Glantz are best mates. We go down the pub together, and then after a few pints, we play 'tease the colonel'. I usually start, being mean-spirited. We just tell him how great it would be to write a book about some imaginary Soviet stuff, like, uh... the L'vov Sandomierz operation (it helps if you use unpronouncable names, because nobody will bother to check whether the place exists on a map). so after a while we get him to do it. Kip, JonS and I just dictate some outrageous stuff to him, like, uh... the Soviets won, and stuff that nobody would believe in their right minds, but they may if the good Colonel writes it. Then he gets the book published, and we quote stuff from it at length. So that makes us look like experts, and everyone is really awed by our knowledge. Then when we get back to the pub we high-five each other and drink more. I mean, we even managed to make JonS look like someone who knows what he is talking about. Quite a bit of work in that, actually. Works every time. Just don't tell anyone. Especially not Mike Dorosh or Emrys, we haven't let them in on it yet. Mum's the word! So far I have been able to keep Kip from going on in public about how great the SU76 and the KV1s are. That would, like, totally blow our cover.

Michael Dorosh
Does Cabron really think that having a book published is the mark of respectability? I've had two published - and for some reason I should now reside in an ivory tower and not speak to other people with an interest in my areas of study? I am going to be real disappointed - but not surprised - to find out that Cabron is pretending to be Jim Dunnigan, now, too. Ought to take about three posts to figure it out. Nonetheless, an IP check would be a good thing. Can we email BFC and find out for sure if Barbarossa1000, Reincarnated and Jim Dunnigan are all posting from the same place?
Andreas
What do you mean 'disappointed'? You are one of the gang of bleeding four who control this forum, so how about you pull your effing finger out and do something about it? Christ on a crutch - I knew I could not rely on Emrys to get it right, but now you blow it as well. Crikey - do berli and I have to do effing everything ourselves. General Bolt
Having a book published does make one respectable. I've had dozens published. What do I do for a living, you ask? I ARE a tech writer. I've written many tomes in the last 20+ years but none with a by-line. Back to the original point: Why is this site so nice? I think its the cutsie smiley faces   Damit - couldn't use all the faces the limit is 8. Who controls this forum anyway??!! There is really one reason this place is so nice: Because the games are soooo GREAATTT. Why would anyone want to jepardize their good standing here and be banned from the forum over a trivial matter? Who controls this forum anyway??!! How come I can't use any more faces. Who controls this forum anyway??!!
