  1. The slat armor is designed to defeat the RPG-7 specifically, since its most prevalent in Iraq, and its probably not to effective against anything else. Lt Mike, I've worked with the 3-2 on multiple occasions over the last few years, in an indirect and visual nature if you follow me. You guys do good work.
  2. They were also designed more for the special ops type units, which the pathfinders fall into. I think the idea was to get good armament with ied protection and good load carrying capacity. From my understanding the snatch landrover is still the main mode of transport for your standard troops and its pretty comparable to HMMWV.
  3. They were actually dropping the 25mm Gatling guns and the 40mm bofors for two 30mm bushmasters.
  4. The only thing is predators aren't designed for CAS missions, not that it can't take two aimed shots, its going to be up there for about 15 hours providing overwatch or intel to the ground troops. From the commanders perspective you'd just about eliminate the fog of war aspect if you had one on station. I'm not sure how you'd add that to the game. The Reaper would actually be a more appropriate addition since it is a CAS platform by nature. You'd get more bang for your buck to, 16 hellfires (eventually) and 2 gbu's. Another option is the MQ-1C (see the army's Warrior for reference), adds another pair of hellfires and has better sensors and should be replacing the B models some day. Of course I'm not sure big airforce has actually sat down and thought about how these will be used in a real war, still a little bit of that "ooo look at the cool remote control plane" mentality out there..... and I think I've rambled enough now.
  5. Didn't they drop a daisy cutter down there somewhere? That would have had some good seismic activity.
  6. So I guess its a good thing i got up and went to work today....
  7. Not to justify the charge but anti tank mines where the big threat before IED's in afghanland.
  8. And of course they like to break things... and you can't buy people who break stuff nice things That and there budget keeps getting blown on "stealth" ships.
  9. All joking aside, this happens whenever a new technology or experiment appears that has some slim possibility to destroy mankind as we know it. I mean take nuclear weapons/energy, same thing "oh god we're all going to die". Its just natural to protest against something that they think is scary
  10. So what your saying is this is a win-win situation either way.
  11. Couldn't the black hole just swallow us up and we wouldn't even know the difference? Wouldn't it grow to swallow the universe around us? Is it just me or is it ironic that the Swiss are going to destroy the world and possibly the universe?
  12. I for one think this planet has had a good run and embrace our crushy doom.
  13. Except its actually just an improvised rocket, not a mortar at all. I suppose you could compare the two John, but it reality the propane cylinders are only used because they are plentiful, cheap and a good size for a large amount of explosives and concealment in a truck. The use of a gas cylinder is more of a coincidence than anything else.
  14. I suppose the fact that our biggest "green" movement of using ethanol is very quickly eating up food stuffs and the land used for growing food, and introduces Nitric Dioxide (and you thought carbon was bad) in large volumes to the atmosphere is a big improvement. Those "green" fuels are also harder on motors having a much lower lubricity, drying up your seals and gaskets decreasing engine life and gas mileage. I'm sure someone is a winner here but it isn't us or anyone's kids.
  15. So why did the MGS have these overheating issues? The regular Styker has tons of computers doing nearly the same functions and you never hear of any issue, and I've seen them rolling out in mid day heat since they hit Iraq. So whats the difference??
  16. The ATO day = 24 hours but the total cycle for planning and execution of one day is 72 hours (I think anyway, its been a few years).
  17. I think those where 2.75in rockets not Hellfires, off of an AH-6. They fired in very fast succession and where way to close to the target for Hellfires. There might have been some minigun rounds from it too, hard to tell with all the other shooting going on. It is very cool to see it all from an eye level view though.
  18. Ummm... Those are both M113's.
  19. The chances of the M113 actually going to war agian is minimal at best. With the MRAP being put into frontline use in not only HMMWV size but also in battle bus size (11 passengers or so) the need for M113 vanishes. Hell theres people in the DOD that want to replace all HMMWV's with MRAP's to. Its the way of the future I tell's ya!
  20. Here's an interesting airforce M-113, note the claymores on the sides. This was supposedly taken in 2008 being used for base defense and QRF. This is not a plug for there inclusion, just a cool picture.
  21. I haven't seen any M113's in Iraq since I started working there in 05. I noticed that those last two pictures show DCU's, so not to current.
  22. Lots of the show seems to be hype and gee whiz type stuff. But they've shown some good usable technology too, like the MP-7, HK 416, Mgapul Masada, M-110. Even though it was pretty much a promotional video for the weapons it was also fairly informative. They just did a great episode about new Israeli tech looking a new SAM systems using air to air missiles, and there anti RPG/ATGM missile systems. Not the best show but its cool to see the tech in action.
  23. In my experience (RL not in game) LGB's are as accurate as the guy lasing the target, not counting system failures ie bad fuze (ever see a bomb bounce? its wicked) or guidance system failure. You can put one through a window if you want.
