New Player Mods? and bad FPS

Recommended Posts

Hello I just bought CM BFN and CM FB as i like the western theater of war.

I found this game watching youtube vids by DiplexHeated i am a long time player of Men of War Assault Squad 2 and older MOW games

I heard him say he uses alot of mods i wanted to know if there if a mod pack or mods i should use? to make the game better.

also it dose seem to run slow as i have a Titan X and a mild overclock on it i get 30fps when zoomed out i am playing in 4K as that is my monitor and only gives me options to play in really low res under 1080p.

I have setting on balanced

The game is great just trying to get to grips with it and learn i have been playing Barkmann's corner as its small and i have been here in real life.

I love how they use correct camo patterns for the SS troops and Tanks this is cool very detailed game

Hi ironcross13:

Welcome to the world of CM. I hope you figure the game out, the learning curve can be steep but it is sure worth the time and effort. If you are interested in playing a friendly/tutorial match with a human opponent, drop me a pm and I would be happy to help.

As for mods, there are tons.  Check out this website http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/ and choose the ones that appeal to you the most. If they change the look of the game in a way you don't like, download something different. For me, the HQS 2.5 sound mod, Juju's UI mod and anything by Aris is well worth a download.

The game uses OpenGL for graphics and having the best graphics card available might not make any difference as the card manufacturers have limited the amount of support they offer for OpenGL. A search of the forum should turn up one of several threads on this issue and hopefully someone else can come along and offer their tips and suggestions of what they do to make the game run smooth for them.

Hi,

Thanks for the info i am getting the hang of the game quite well.

I can win small battles which is good mainly playing defence battles which i do like. I would like to play some real people could be fun lol.

Great i have modded the game quite a lot now with that site looks much better.. I have added lots of Tank Mods also some SS and WH camo mods which are quite cool.

I've added a list of the mods im using

I did try the sound mod but seemed quite strange i could hear MG and rifle fire in the background when i was playing is this correct?

also i downloaded 3 files and not sure if i unpack them correctly the end file was  652,608 kb

Yeah i can get 40+FPS zoomed in but once i zoom out of a big battle drops alot

How big is big?

Personally I find anything above a reinforced Battalion gets too low a framerate. It also depends on how large the map is. I get about 6 FPS on OP Linnet II if I zoom all the way out.

But that map is measured in miles, not meters.

Ahh yeah so how much Ram can this game use?

I play in 4K

i7 4770K oc 4.2ghz 16gb 2133 ram and Titan X Hybrid Overclocked.

But i know specs don't seem to matter much with this game i can get good games some times but once loads of troops attacking can drop alot.

I have been playing the Falaise Pocket campaign as the Germans Its been hard but fun..

I am a big Men of War fan but i like this game alot i have this and Final Blitz not played FB much

I plan to get Red Storm next looks good..

Will they make a new game engine? dose this game have a big fan base? also why is it not on steam?

I should have dug these out earlier.

This is a performance thread that has significant input from Steve.  You will likely find it interesting.

It is a 32 bit app so 4Gb.  My rig has 16Gb too and I often have instances of all five games going - unless I have several really big games loaded I rarely break 9Gb used by all five.

Steve has not made any announcement about a new engine but he mentions the idea here and there so clearly he is thinking about it at least sometimes.

Humm it's a war game that focus on realistic simulation so not it is not a big fan base.  There are a lot of dedicated fans though.

Steam has come up several times.  Here is Steve (the boss at BFC) explaining his thoughts on Steam.  Just a word of warning the reason that some responses might seem hot under the collar is because a handful of members keep bringing up Steam not our of curiosity like you did but because they are unable to accept that Steve has looked at Steam and decided against going there.  I think the trouble makers are no longer around here but Steam discussions tend to get people's backup because of the history.

Having said that if you have more questions after reading that asking them *should* be safe :)

Here is my peronal choice when it comes to tutorials for beginners:

Their page: http://www.armchairgeneral.com/combat-mission-battle-for-normandy-tactics-a-video-series

And the first youtube link:

The tutorials entry-level demands that you have studied the manual and are familiar with CMs controls as it focuses only on tactics - but that it does briliantly.

The low FPS is sadly normal, I have a optimum-specs machine (rather old by todays standarts) and won't get over 40 FPS under no circumstances... The game isn't optimised towards using hardware the most economically.

Good hunting

Thanks for the help ive seen some threads on FPS now i have been playing a while i feel i have fixed the problem with Nvidia control Panel.

No AA on no V sync seems to do it. But i am playing in 4K so the game looks great with all the mods also ;)

I just got Red Storm so own Battle for Normandy (full pack +battle pack) and Final Biltz.. I come from Men of War which is great but this game i do like alot

It is not a cheap game the most i've ever paid for one but its been fun.

Seems to have alot of fans i see. I just thought Steam would make the game sell alot more as more people would find it for sale. But who knows. Just going off my experience im just a noob here lol.

Took me along time to find it and ive been playing Men of War since 2009 as i like more realism

also play red orchestra 2 as the realism thing and i like ww2 games. Harts of Iron is one more

So is steve the Boss? how big is the devs team. sorry i don't know much about the Battle Front games

Yes, those two things seem to have the biggest effect.

Yes, discover-ability is an issue.  I my self used to war game with miniatures long ago before giving that up due to lack of time and opponents and never found a computer game that cut it.  I pretty much missed out on CM1x and only discovered this game when CM2x came out because I happened to overhear a couple of co worksers talking about the new version.  I would have played the CM1x games from day one if I knew they existed.

They have other titles that other teams develop and I know next to nothing about them.  The CM team is small one or two devs and a handful of artists and modelers plus two game designers.  The scenario content is created by volunteer testers and designers.

Yep, I find the game stays playable with even lower frame rates than that which can happen with large maps.

Welcome to the community @ironcross13. Even for those with beefy PC rigs, FPS performance has been a contentious issue discussed at length. There are some tips for improvement that you appear to have already found, however it's not so much an issue for a game like this unlike your more streamlined RTS's like Men of War / Starcraft etc.

Yeah Finding this game was just from Men of War Assault squad 2 i was watching DiplexHeated he makes men of war and Combat mission vids some really cool ones check them out. Men of War Assault squad 2 is a great game has some great mods RobZ Realism is really good and get played alot. A great game for any WW2 fan

Well watching his men of war vids i seen some combat mission vids and then i google it and found it. Was put of by the price and after the demo was not sure if i should buy it or not as it seem hard. Then i bought the big pac will all the extras and it was great. I own BN RS FB now so really enjoying the game learning all the time.

This is the vid that made me interested in the game. I dont know if he is on the forums or not but makes some good vids

I seen the massive Panzer battle and it got my attention. Men of War you get smaller battles this was crazy and great.

Really such a small team to make a great game. its the most realistic WW2 game out there as far as i know.

How often does new battle packs get released?  I bought all for Battle for normandy. But i'm always looking for more

as i like to play the Germanys alot as i love the Panther Tank and Tigers.

I will try this mod looks helpful

Yeah I know that YouTuber... can't pronounce any place name on the continent to save his life. :) (RL is a bit of a pain at the moment so hope to be back more regularly later this year).

Don't worry most people up here have trouble with continental places names too. And I'm really enjoying your Aachen series at the mo.
