Rokossovski
Is it possible to get snow-laden trees in CMFB? There were settings in CMBO/BB that presented trees with snow weighing down the branches, which was visually appealing (and accurate for recent snowfall). Am I missing the magic settings, or is this absent from CMFB? Is the problem having to bend the branches to show the weight of the snow? Any chance of a feature being added later? I don't usually post about eye-candy issues, but snow maps don't look right to me with bare trees. (Post Script: Knowing this crowd, having used the term "laden" I can count on someone asking "African or European?" My answer is: "European.")
Aragorn2002
Don't know about snow-laden, but a snowy trees-mod would most certainly be very welcome.
Rokossovski
For the record, my concern is for the trees to show visible snow. Not the "snow weighing down the branches" issue (although that would be nice too).
Aragorn2002
Well, I absolutely agree. But there is hope, because there are some very talented winter modders/coal thiefs around at this forum...

MikeyD
They did want snow-laden 'Xmas' trees in the game but tree branches are mapped in such a way that there's no consistent top-side/bottom-side to 'em. Believe me, I tried. There were discussions, suggestions, proposals about this, but it simply wasn't in the budget to remodel/replace/recode the trees in the game. Removing and replacing items in a game this complex is like a big game of Jenga. You might inadvertently topple the whole thing while trying.
Warts 'n' all
I'd love snow-laden trees. But given the amount of people who prefer playing in Telegraphpoleland I doubt it would be worth BFC's time and effort.
Agua
Yeah, but I'm sure someone can come up with something that looks pretty good.
benpark
I have something I made during the time I was working on the Noville master map that I will upload in a few days.

Bulletpoint
How much time does it really take to do a 3D model of a spruce tree with snow on it, I wonder?
MikeyD
Bear in mind its not just a model. Its also the animations for branches blowing in the wind, its figuring the LOS calculations, and the bare trunk with leaves toggled off. Plus creating multiple progressively-lower resolution LOD trees and distant tree sprites. We're talking time, expense (not inconsiderable), and the distraction from more pressing issues. Like I said, they wanted it. They just wanted more important stuff more.

I'm sure someone will come with a satisfactory mod sooner or later, but it is a rather odd choice not to include it in the first place. No offense.
benpark
I'll just need to look at these a bit more, do a few fixes, then I'll upload them. Maybe tomorrow. These will only show up in "Snow" conditions, of course. Edited April 10, 2016 by benpark
Rokossovski
Nice! The bent, "snow-laden" look would be my preference, but given the existing limitations that looks like a great mod. Thanks benpark!
Aragorn2002
That is precisely what I was hoping for, Benpark. Very nice.

Ales Dvorak
Benpark, thank you. Looks good also in clear weather/snow. Edited April 11, 2016 by Ales Dvorak
