Mr.X
I think, it will be no problem for BF, to improve the graphics of CM during the next years by upgrading the series. But could it be possible (with the CM2 engine) to create real 3D airplanes? Regards Frank
Baneman
Don't know, but must confess, the last 2 games I played which had air support - when the aircraft sounds played, I turned the camera upwards. I'm sad, I know...
Vark
I always thought the shadows in CM1 were a neat idea, even when it was overcast! There was a certain sense of dread, as the enemy winged assassin zoomed toward critical units, even worse if it was a friendly winged assassin!
Mord
As far as WWII goes I doubt they'd ever do it. But with copters in Modern I could see it. Or maybe contrails for fighters. I think they are all a dream too far, though. Yeah, that shadow was cool. Mord.
Battlefront.com
Far, far, far too much work and too much of an impact on computer hardware compared to the payback. Not only would we have to create the models/textures, we'd also have to create realistic flight behavior. And for what? An environment where it's arguable that there shouldn't be aircraft involved in the battles at all, abstract or not. Even for Modern, where aircraft are definitely justifiable for tactical combat, we're not going to have 3D representation. It's just too nasty. Having said that, I totally agree it would look pretty cool Steve
Erwin
In over a decade of CM1 games, I only once saw a plane shot down by AAA. It's been a few years, but I recall the sound of a plane barreling into the ground and I think I heard a crash and saw smoke - but IIRC that was offmap - like arty hitting offmap. It was a lovely detailed touch.

How about at least having aircraft shadows a la CMx1?
umlaut
I have been dreaming of seeing the shadows return too, but I can see the realism problems in having them: If a plane flies over the western part of the map late in late afternoon then it´s shadow should realistically be cast on the ground in eastern part of the map. And wouldn´t the shadow then be more misleading to the player than an actual help?
Fizou
How about at least having aircraft shadows a la CMx1? Yes Steve, any thoughts on this? Not on the list, or far back on the list? Would love to see it return.
Jock Tamson
I would love to have control of choppers in game, but I fear there would be all sorts of spotting/balance issues.

Since I play a lot of Skyrim, shadows would make me think "Dragon". Hmmm, memo to development team......
