US Recon Vehicles of the 1979 Cold War Period
OldSarge replied to Raging Al's topic in Combat Mission Cold War
Me too! Me too! It could almost climb anything, not fast and squirrelly to drive especially on twisty roads, but a lot of fun. -
One of the understated successes of the Biden administration is the commitment to restore chip manufacturing back in the U.S. "President Biden announced a deal with Intel that will give the chipmaker up to $8.5 billion in grants and another $11 billion in loans to build semiconductor plants in four states — the biggest project to date in his push to bring chips manufacturing back to America." Biden is giving Intel $8.5 billion for big semiconductor projects in 4 states "The US government plans to give $6.6 billion to the world’s biggest manufacturer of semiconductor chips to help it build three factories in Arizona as part of President Joe Biden’s efforts to secure the supply of advanced chips." Biden to give Taiwan’s TSMC $6.6 billion to ramp up US chip production It'll take time for these facilities to be built and equipped. As well to train up a pool of skilled workers, but it is in the pipeline. Hopefully, we're in front of the curve and not trying to play catch up with a peer adversary.

There was an attempt at an Arracourt campaign/scenario pack, it kind of fizzled out. You can follow the conversation here: HTH

Question? About release of BP
OldSarge replied to weapon2010's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Me savvy! I don't know how communications/marketing are handled on the Matrix/Slitherine side, I would think (or hope) that at least they'd ask for BF's approval before publishing content online - or at the very least have a proof reader knowledgeable on the subject glance at it. -
Question? About release of BP
OldSarge replied to weapon2010's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I think the information on the Matrix Info tab could use a little clarification. It most likely means that if you bought the aforementioned DLCs on Steam then you'll need to purchase BP2 on Steam as well. Conversely, if you've purchased everything from BF's store front you'll need to order BP2 from BF directly. -
NVM, was already posted earlier.

CMBN BP2 has a release date
OldSarge replied to OldSarge's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Outstanding! I'm looking forward to it! -
The long wait is over! BP2 has a real date! Time to get into mindset, I'm re-reading Joseph Balkoski's Utah Beach. https://www.matrixgames.com/news/combat-mission-battle-for-normandy-battle-pack-2-out-on-d-day https://www.matrixgames.com/game/combat-mission-battle-for-normandy-battle-pack-2

I haven't seen this posted. The U.S. has purchased 81 Soviet-era aircraft (including Mig-31, Mig-29, Mig-27, SU-24) from Kazakhstan. It is likely that these aircraft will find their way to Ukraine after enhancements or as spare parts. https://news.yahoo.com/us-buys-81-soviet-era-145127753.html

Finally found a breakdown of the Ukraine aid package. The article is from February of this year, so should be pretty close. $60.2 Billion overall, broken down: $20 Billion for replenishment of equipment and munitions sent by DOD to Ukraine. $14 Billion for Ukraine to purchase weapons and equipment from U.S. firms. $15 Billion for U.S. support including military training, intelligence sharing, increased presence in Eastern Europe, and other activities. $8 Billion direct budget support for Ukraine. $3.2 Billion )1.6 Billion for economic development, $1.6 Billion to bolster air and maritime defenses in and around Ukraine) https://www.rferl.org/a/us-ukraine-aid-breakdown-timeline/32822804.html

It looks like now it is Europe's turn to pull together an aid package. "A crucial test for Europe will come on Monday, when the EU's 27 foreign ministers gather in Luxembourg to plan future military aid for Kyiv. Ukraine's foreign and defense ministers are scheduled to join the discussion virtually." https://www.politico.eu/article/relieved-by-us-progress-on-ukraine-aid-europe-grapples-with-its-future-help-for-kyiv/

It looks like getting aid to Ukraine will follow through quickly. President Biden has stated that he will sign the bill as soon as it is on his desk. '... “we have a very robust logistics network that enables us to move material very quickly,” Ryder told reporters this past week. “We can move within days.” The Pentagon has had supplies ready to go for months but hasn’t moved them because it is out of money. It has already spent all of the funding Congress had previously provided to support Ukraine, sending more than $44 billion worth of weapons, maintenance, training and spare parts since Russia’s February 2022 invasion.' https://www.msn.com/en-in/news/world/after-bill-clears-us-congress-this-is-how-aid-will-reach-ukraine/ar-AA1nmAdn

It's currently being reported that the House has passed the Ukraine aid deal 311-112. https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/house-vote-ukraine-israel-taiwan-aid-04-20-24/index.html

@BFCElvis is your man for this!

And CNN's Erin Burnett is calling her out for being the talk of Russian State TV: Here's what Russian media is saying about Marjorie Taylor Greene's push to end Ukraine aid 'The Gipper' has to be rolling in his grave to know there are GOP members, like MTG, who are opposing the very type of bills he would've support - and being congratulated by our enemies for it. A portion of the Ukrainian aid package is earmarked for expanding and modernizing US muntions production: "The Biden Administration has proposed that $3.1 billion of a much larger Ukraine aid bill be spent on munition production and modernization. A good interview with a UAF Bradley commander. I don't think it was posted here, or I couldn't locate it. Here he describes what makes a good crew function, somewhat CM related of veteran versus green crews:

I regard pre-planned bombardment of choke-points, fords and bridges as part of doing good map analysis and would expect an opponent to do the same - it is fair game. So, I would consider it to be sound tactics.
-
Well, A broken clock is correct twice a day! This war has exposed the weakness of the U.S. supply chain in a peer to peer conflict as well - 155mm shells, Javelins, microprocessors, etc. And like the European's we're looking into ways to shore up our weak points. I can see why Xi isn't too happy with Vlad, he surely doesn't want to see both the EU and the US ramping up when his own economy is in a slump.

Downfall: Enjoying the module?
OldSarge replied to Myles Keogh's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
The M18 is a recoilless rifle, you'll find the info on page 8 under the U.S. Special Weapons section. The effective and maximum range are within the specs I have for it, so it isn't worth quibbling over. -

I think I spent an hour just moving the camera around the master map! A really nice piece of work!
