US cluster arty in quick battles?
Megalon Jones replied to Col Rosenberger's topic in Combat Mission Cold War
Thanks for clearing this up. I thought I was going crazy trying to get cluster weapons by running different dates in the QMB. Anyone know a scenario I get to play with them until the patch? -
3rd CAA was a TA, right? Did anyone ever figure out how 3rd CAA and 2nd GTA were to be used? I seem to remember tons of controversy about those two formations. Some thought they would be in the 1st echelon. Other's thought they would be split up into different OMG's and distributed right between the 1st and 2nd echelon Either way, they couldn't have been used as a massed ready reserve as they would be nuked.

Thanks for the clarification. The T72's were for 2nd echelon troops in the West TVD and for export. Imagine the logistics nightmare of having four different MBT's in service at the same time.

Tank type was dependent on formation. Motor Rifle got T62/T72’s while the tank regiment’s got T64/T80’s. I believe the East German NVA was the only Pact army to get any T72’s. Everyone else got T55’s and T62’s.

Wait....it get's worse? I'm just finishing up with a Red Thunder vid that ought to be posted tomorrow. After that, I'm heading back to CW for more getting thrashed by the Group Soviet Forces Germany. -

Are Infantry casualties higher in CW than SF2/BS?
Megalon Jones replied to THH149's topic in Combat Mission Cold War
The original flak jackets were originally handed out to stop low velocity shrapnel caused by air burst munitions. 8th AF bomber crews and USN AA gunners took advantage. I imagine it’s a mixed bag for infantry with most willing to suffer the extra weight for at least nominal protection. -

Yup. I just cut down a good 1/2 or more of a Red Army platoon with two fire teams in some good hard cover after about a couple turns. Got them with enfilade fire. I want to say the M16 is full auto in this title? -
Stem the Tide scenario- very fun but soooo hard!

This is going to be the subject of my next YouTube AAR. -

I honestly think I lucked out. I received a total of two hits from very long range on my Starships. The Sagger carrying BMP’s either got knocked out or went to ground early. My first spot was a command BMP and that died alongside the REDFOR FO APC. The Redeye SAM teams kept the Migs at bay. I got zero casualties from the opening rocket attack. I got all the lucky breaks. -
About to be overrun at the 2 Fahrbahns
Megalon Jones replied to CaptainTheDark's topic in Combat Mission Cold War
Use them EXACTLY as you would in the WW2 titles. M113's are just like the M3 halftracks... battle taxis that can become coffins. Know that the tank isn't the undisputed champ of the battlefield, though. Infantry now have access to ATGM's and just about anyone can carry a LAW or RPG (think about how the Germans passed out one shot Panzerfausts to as many squad members as possible from 1944 onwards.) IFV's are slightly different in that both the BMP and the Bradley have the ability to dish it out. They still lack the armor to shrug off some hits. I'm highlighting this. You have got to get flank shots. Stick them hull down and watch out for Ivan's arty trying to blind you. If those T72's gets past your WEZ (weapons employment zone) on the Shillelaghs you are going to have major trouble. The 152mm shells fired by the Starship are low velocity....bad news for killing tanks. ....I'm doing an AAR of this battle on Youtube. The majority of the action for the scenario is included here. Part two is imbound and will be more or less a cleanup with general observations. -
Soviet Air Power
Megalon Jones replied to Marwek77 aka Red Reporter's topic in Combat Mission Cold War
I fly IL2. Even during WW2, you made one pass and dumped all ordinance on a single target whenever air defenses are present. Anything else is a death wish. -
Just read the backstory to CW. Nice job!
-
Thanks. I'm 5 turns into the scenario in March 1979 with Starships versus T72's. No spoilers, but I'm hoping for a hyperdrive. The flight time on the ATGM's is terrifyingly long and they have to maintain LOS on target until impact. I *think* I may have gotten a mission kill at about 1700m, but not sure.

Excellent. It takes me a good week or so to get a vid out. Will post a link in the forum. -

Question for the developers: what scenario should I do first for a YouTube AAR? -

Dl'ing and installing CW before heading off to work. Today is going to be a looong day at work. Congrats to the team! -
It has mostly to do with school children so they aren't at the bus stop in the dark. I still hate it though. Takes me a good couple weeks to adjust. (My guess for release is 'tomorrow'.....no specific date, just 'tomorrow')

Thanks for the plug! Good constructive criticism. I prefer a documentarian style: long shots at ground level. You are going to miss certain things (like the sheer amount of lead flying), but I’m willing to sacrifice that for stylistic consistency. YMMV. -
How US Airborne🪂 would have been used?
Megalon Jones replied to The_MonkeyKing's topic in Combat Mission Cold War
101st and 82nd were going to the Middle East as part of the RDF/CENTCOM's XVIIIth Corps. The 173rd Brigade were in Italy as part of AFSOUTH? If so, they get Yugoslavia and northern Italy.
