  1. Either putin or Zelensky admit defeat before this war is finished like any other war. That is required to declare victory. No need to spin it any other way.
  2. The logic escapes me somehow. Right now Russia imposes a no-fly zone over the Ukraine for NATO planes but NATO can't enforce a no fly zone even with all the UN resolutions on their side. Putin thinks what every country outside NATO thinks. No Action Talk Only.
  3. The problem is people want to see better graphics than what is available in real life. Especially WW2 a platoon leader had nothing but a sketch as an aid to give orders. From Camera position 1 the graphics are adequate. TBH as a suggestion Camera, 8-9 should be replaced by a street map and a topographic map to aid in pathfinding for formations company and above.
  4. I was wrong, it was a BTR, possibly the command vehicle there is a fallen HQ unit nearby. Fits the description lucky he was not able to use his 30mm APDS.
  5. Don't know which BMP but the .50 Cal is reasonably effective against them. Spent some time finding good 'Hull Down' positions for them. The BMP.s can't spot them. But the scenario wants me to use them to attack. With their armor? Like a tennis match stay near the base line when the UAV spots movement I take counter measures.
  6. LOS: Combat Mission scenarios have never had the objective to bring all your unit's home. Attrition is part and parcel of every game and no fancy manipulation of the LOS tool and move tool is going to change it. Use them by all means like I do but they are just a guide.
  7. Inside houses you need to breach the wall with HE first followed by a canister. Not modelled in the game.
  8. The T72 like the name says was introduced around 1972. It is like starting WW2 with the Renault FT-17. It is worse 50-year-old tanks. There were no surprises for the Ukrainians and it was eight years well spent. The big game changer seem to be artillery with GPS based fuses. A revolution as dramatic as the proximity fuse was. This war includes near space and nano technlogy.
  9. I can remember a game of cricket we played. A red ball flew in the direction of John, and everybody saw where it was going except for John. The ball dropped about ten feet from John, a bright red object partly concealed among the green grass. Talking about relative spotting, I find the game models it very well. The manual should say the LOS tool gives you an estimate but nothing to rely on.
  10. The excuse was not the reason, to start a war because of an assassination is silly. It is always a combination.
  11. Some people don't appreciate that nice graphics is not the dealbreaker for the members of this forum. Otherwise, we would all play Call of Duty. The oldest wargame is chess mor than a thousand years old and still going strong. I see Combat Mission in the same light, possible by modern high tech.
  12. IO or intel operations are ongoing for the length of the scenario.
  13. I was inspired by the 'Hull Down' move for armored vehicles and now do something similar with the 'Hunt Move' for infantry.
  14. The drill is RISS stands for Recon Isolate Secure and Seize. It goes for every building. Rushing it asks for a lure and trap by the enemy.
  15. From the Window Store has what I think is a brilliant PDF Reader. It allows you to open all your CM Manuals in one spot. It is called Drawboard PDF you can also alter your PDF files.
  16. You can do it with a 155mm but it is costly. The most efficient way is 'letter dropping'. Read dropping HE through the slit in WW2 with a 75mm worked in FB. Letter dropping was used in Korea a 20pounder Centurion did the trick in RL. Engineers can probably do it but in the game I used it only against wooden bunkers. I think in RT the weapon would be a JS2 or an ISU in either 152mm or 122m.
  17. Use thermals and other fancy stuff for overwatch. The boots on the ground need to attract fire but should live to report back. Place a waypoint on the area you like to spot. Go to POV and you see the unit is out of LOS with the waypoint. Use the W-Key to move along the movetool line till the POV is with the waypoint. The bottom of the screen is the spot where the original waypoint should be moved and modified. Highlight it and drag to the bottom till the mouse pointer disappears. The new move command. The unit has not been on a recon by attrition mission.
  18. This man is involved with Combat Mission professional. I follow his suggestions with artillery he made a little prototype game, which I would like to see in Engine 5.
  19. I think Graviteam need to improve their game engine too, I think their soft factors are inferior. Shocked and stressed soldiers don't follow orders in CM. One of the most common complaints about CM is LOS issues and troops doing their own thing the other is C2 with artillery. We look here at the time period from 1944 till the present using the same system. If you use tactics from BS and try to use them in Red Thunder it doesn't end well. Read books and do a little research and customise the game as you see fit. What I like to see in Engine 5 is. Cameras Street Maps and Topographic Maps in Camera position 8 and 9. If you use the street map you would click start and destination and all the convoy will be using the road to get there. Likewise the toppographic map a formation will use the terrain to get to its objective. The C2 needs to be less abstract and have a dedicated signal unit as we do with engineers. Easier said than done I am not a software developer. I make my suggestions but don't see the need to refer to different games. with the camera I like to see a POV which puts you inside the vehicle or lets you look through binoculars. A perfect game doesn't exist better learn with this fact.
