  1. It depends on personal preference. I like Final Blitzkrieg and Red Thunder for the simple reason I can use AFV's as transport. They operate from Game Engine 4 so it doesn't make all that much difference. To enjoy don't shy away from the higher difficulty settings. I don't find playing Iron difficult at all. The choice is yours. Playing the AI is a challenge if you never played before. It is your TacAI versus the AI so don't go too much into macro managing. Do what you do in real life, and you won't go much wrong. In real life you don't use a moving tool such as a LOS or LOF tool.
  2. The set-up zones shouldn't be targeted for the first fifteen minutes. Especially on the smaller maps. The way out could be in the future, that the player decides which available units enter the area of operations.
  3. You can make a screenshot of the elevations and in a photo, editor make a topographic map. TBH I see it as a non-existent solution.
  4. Certainly, a State Funeral with full military honors is a fringe benefit. Very nice uniforms at the airbase coffin nice and shiny and a salute whilst wearing white gloves. They shouldn't complain too much.
  5. We have 4 systems Utopian, Democracy, Theocracy and Autocracy. From 0 to 10 Utopian scores 10, Democracy 7 Theocracy 4 and Autocracy 1. It is a matter of inclusion I based my numbers on. Democracy is the best out of a bad lot. The people from Belarus are Europeans like the Russians I feel sorry for them. Here we have people from all over the world who had a fair go. I am one of them and get on with most of them.
  6. What we call here "Two bob each way". No doubt putin has some cocktail ready for him.
  7. If he is on borrowed time, I don't think he cares. Most of us can't follow putin, I would do something different if I were worth $70 Billion and I am only a few years older. The only conclusion I can make is that the man is a lunatic and a dangerous one. The threat that London is the first to go may not be an empty one. All what the west can do is reply in kind.
  8. Thank you, I must be the world's worst designer. I had something like that in Grand Boneface where the German artillery blast away at the beginning of the game. Since then I put troops away in shelter.
  9. I have SF2, Red Thunder, Final Blitzkrieg, Normandy. So if it happens in one of these games Let me know which scenario. I find it a poor design if they have artillery on your preparation area.
  10. For armor you have the survival onion. I find it applies for infantry units too. Do I have to be there? Can I be observed? Can I be targeted? Always, have a plan to leave the location fast. An AI trigger can be anywhere so you can be targeted anytime by artillery. A human player can be even more dangerous. Don't stay anywhere too long.
  11. People ignore lots of times that they have a lot more bullets for their MG than a MG42 has. Their MG gunner got a lot better cover than an MG42 has. Once their MG42 is suppressed keep him suppressed by nonstop area fire. It takes a long time before his 7000 rounds run out. Naturally protect them from German armor, their main gun is also not altogether useless for self-protection.
  12. Never lost a battle but lost the war. M113 doesn't depend on bridges.
  13. Against the AI I found attacking is the better option unless the designer specifies it otherwise. Second battle for Chaumont likewise the German side. Playing allies, I found find the Germans and then kick their butt with your supporting weapons. The MG42 will give them superiority against allied infantry especially if you play commonwealth. The allies manufactured 40000 Shermans and they shine as infantry support.
  14. According to this guy the M4 is an assault rifle this new rifle is a battle rifle. But for an urban environment the M4 is a hard act to follow.
  15. Just bumped into an article about this rifle and show the Wiki Article about it. Made in Switzerland. Will be made under license in the US I suppose. XM5 - Wikipedia
  16. Somebody pointed out that the Russians needed to control the major road arteries for their logistics. Capturing empty farmland looks good for their domestic audience but there are little or no benefits.
  17. I remember the days when Korea veterans swore by the Lee Enfield .303. Reason it always worked. The biggest benefit of the .223 is pleasant for recruits who never fired a gun. Reason I rate the 9mm higher than the .45 ACP. Even jeff Coopers flawed energy formula projectile multiplied by velocity in Ft/Sec. (Kinetic Energy doesn't work that way). But it was the formula for a worthwhile sport. The point I am making a hit in the lung heart area scored a five, two AA qualified shooters can't afford misses outside the five ring. Wish you luck with your hobbies but your Uncle Sam seems to have different ideas now. Snipers in the game use the .308 Winchester magnum and the Marines the M4 in 5.56 NATO. Marines in the game have body armour and it seems to be reasonably effective. Range of engagement with modern optics is now 500 yards I tend to agree you need a little more thumb than the 5.56 NATO. But I am only a pensioner and enjoy this game.
  18. Get some reloading books and do your sums. I did and at 300 meters it performs like a 9mm at 25 meters. Not pleasant but body armor will stop it. It looks like the special forces boys demand something a little more powerful. The 5.56mm still has some way to go for the regulars.
  19. Urban Combat in Hatten. Panzerschreck is a very decisive weapon in the game, almost on par with the AT-84. Or is the AT-84 a reskinned Panzerschreck? The two MG42s didn't get the fire superiority. Also in a building on the other side of the street.
  20. Try to use the mouse wheel. Camera 1 drivers' position, one notch up fighting compartment, two notches up unbuttoned.
  21. F-Key all the way down then the X-Key for a nice POV. Something for Engine 5 a POV Key. It makes me cringe on YouTube playing the game only from camera 4. Using the camera well is one of the keys playing the game well.
  22. After years of trying all the fancy tricks in the book LOS is best done by eyeballing from camera position1. If you get a LOS the game gives you either a full contact or a tentative contact. Here two scouting teams are moving to contact. First eyeballed the terrain. Two sections of the same platoon are tasked to make contact with the enemy. Receiving fire but as they are moving, they don't get an LOS. They move to contact towards a suspected enemy position. Use a fit but not a brave unit for this task. Fear is their friend to survive. They are suppressed easily and they don't care about their LOS. During this turn the other team was resting and spotted the enemy position. The engine gives you automatically an LOS. Low quality units have their uses. The German pillbox is on borrowed time.
