  1. I was looking at Red Dawn in which a single commander of a Sapper Platoon HQ can call in a mortar mission whilst he is completely out of C2 contact. On Hot Seat we have made it a house rule that he needs to pass on the tentative contact to a Radio HQ which is in contact with the off-map unit. The mortar FO also has no contact so he needs to stay in close contact with his Regiment HQ. But there is nothing written about this in the manual. Also field telephones are not modelled in the game. The Mortar FO has I suppose the map and binoculars but no communication means apart from he could have a hypothetical field telephone connection with his C2 HQ. This could be modelled by have a green radio button instead of an out of contact cross. Regards.
  2. I like to see an expanded manual. Which explains everything more in depth. Artillery for example it is the same tool whether we play Red Thunder Soviet Campaign or the US Campaign in Black Sea. I would like to see some suggestions for protocols for the player to use. Kind regards
  3. I wish people who chose to play it all the best and years of enjoyment. For myself I am 72 years old and doubt I have the time to finish all the CM games in my possesion. Besides I am not sure if it is cool to promote other games on this form.
  4. Yes, in CM you're free to have your own custom protocols. Example FR Red Dawn no way I let a Sapper Platoon call a mortar barrage by himself. (No Radio) the Mortar FO also has no radio. So, the Mortar Fo had to stay in close proximity to a HQ unit with a radio. For the Sapper HQ after he called in mortar support he need to have a runner to pass on the tentative contact to the Mortar FO who needs to be in communication with his HQ with radio. But we need also to have an enjoyable game for people who don't like it to be complicated. Someone has problems with cease fire and I don't. I feel all it takes is fire a flare to confirm a mission. The problem with house rules is when you play PBem which is unlikely in our case. Something for everybody is fair enough.
  5. It depends on the terrain, but I agree the player has little or no influence on the formation. It game when they moved from three to four. Like RT3 to RT4.
  6. The latest Panther got rid of the loader but it seems still have a fourth crew member. He will operate the drone onboard possibly they could be launched through the main gun barrel. We could see a revolution compared with that of the battleship and the aircraft carrier. Tanks engaging out of visual contact.
  7. You achieve this by splitting. For your other issue taking evading action this needs time management. You can plot a move for the full 60 seconds, but you don't have to. Example the 'hunt command' listen for 45 seconds and move for the last 15 seconds is one suggestion. My biggest issue is path finding. If I plot the first move on the road and the last move on the same road, I would like to see that the vehicle stays on the road without plotting ten or more corners which you must repeat all over again for all the convoy. The soft factors in CM is in my opinion superior compared with Mius Front. But you know what they say about opinions. For this you need to take note of the Combat Stress Pyramid if units are stressed or shocked (Fatality)they don't follow orders. The reason I prefer CM above Mius Front.
  8. If you use the on-map mortar for an indirect fire mission, you will still use the of the map fire direction centre. The only explanation I have for the pattern.
  9. Not quite it is about taking away the will to fight. Killing someone's siblings, father or mother increases the will to fight. Maiming is more effective it takes away more resources and a veteran walking on crutches is a reminder of the war he or she fought in.
  10. Ukrainians will have a new tank the VZ1. VZ stands for Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Based on the new German Panther the loader has been replaced with a drone operator as the tank has an autoloader.
  11. There is nothing new under the sun. https://twitter.com/ArmorCollection/status/1552412890761760769?s=20&t=Qcza_KCvIPdxONvtobjgYA
  12. Russia ‘has definitively lost initiative’ in battle for Donbas (msn.com) Wait and see no objectives held.
  13. Taskforce 3-69 BS makes a decent attempt to start with a recon. Kudos to the designer, I thoroughly enjoy this campaign.
  14. You have now a UAV and the operator can use it with a 155mm Paladin at the same time. Tanks have thermals which spot a sniper right away the moment the twit fires. The boots on the ground can be more effective than a German 88 vs a Sherman. I really study the artillery tactics more; light missions are very effective in conjunction with a UAV operated by the observer. Soviet tanks fire Laser Guided munitions from the main gun and US tanks receive an early warning. I buy similar but not the same.
  15. Got I like from me. I just bought BS but it will take some time before I play Russia. I am a seventy-two-year-old retiree and the modern games are a challenge finding out how to use all the fancy stuff. Should have suck with WW2.
  16. putin tries to bribe Battle Front designers to join their militia.
  17. Spray and pray is not putting more shots on target rapidly. It depends on the shooter. Here is one extreme.
  18. In the meantime, working on tactics in BS, scouting 21st century. Starting the US Campaign, stopped the Russian Campaign shooting Ukrainians is not much fun. Last of the Russian scout vehicles in that zone. Incredible, they seem to be as silly as in real life. Can't play campaigns against a human player.
  19. Using nukes in Europe is like settling a domestic with hand grenades. Look at Chernobyl, it was a nuclear implosion and it affected all of Europe and it triggered the collapse of the Soviet Union. Nuclear will be between the US and Russia and neither side wants it. Time to call putins bluff.
  20. A tu quoque response to an accusation can never refute the accusation. In plain English. The pot calling the kettle black doesn't win an argument.
  21. Technology will catch up. Civilians do feral animal hunting with thermal sights. I just try to imagine what the military will come up with to spot camouflaged enemy units.
  22. No argument when the range is below 300 yards. I was raised by a dad who suffered a wound from a subcaliber round. Ten years later, he was still spitting blood. After being hit he woke up a day later in the hospital ward. The bullet hit the button of his tunic and ended in the lung. I think it is mostly academic that a wound is more effective from a military point of view. It takes more resources away from the enemy and the enemy soldier is out of circulation for a long time.
  23. Do you try to download the game on your phone? I think it is either Mac or Windows only.
