    ENEMY AVENUES OF APPROACH
After looking at the map,  I thought my opponent had three main options for his attack. I think that he will use the top of the hills to mask his approach and try to flank my positions. He can use either my left flank or my right flank (the orange icons). The main advantage of the right flank is that there is a wood that can provide cover and concealment for his squads.

    ENEMY AVENUES OF APPROACH

    AOA1 (Green axis)
The green axis has the advantage to be masked by a ridge and can perfectly be used to advance on my left flank. On the other hand, terrain is pretty opened thus the advance will have to be careful and slow.
    AOA2 (Blue axis)
This is the most unlikely axis in my opinion since I have direct LOS from the Obj1 houses to this avenue of approach. I am pretty sure @JoMc67 will try to flank my troops using AOA1 or AOA3 axis.
    AOA3 (Orange axis)
The orange axis is the most important threat in my opinion. It is covered by both a ridge and a wood. This is surely the axis that will be taken by the enemy troops to attack on my right flank. I will have to reinforce my right flank at all costs.

MY PLAN AND MY INITIAL MOVES
My avenues of approach are the exact opposite of the Germans. Since I think the enemy will try to flank me, I will advance on both sides of the map with splitted squads (one on each side). The center will remain quite weak but I am convinced that the enemy will not try to assault directly Obj1.

As a young green lieutenant, my goal is to preserve as much as possible my men. As such, I will try to carefully plan my moves. Since this is my first PBEM, I can say that I am strangely much more careful than against the computer. Self preservation?

    MY INITIAL MOVES
On the right, my squad is ready to rush into the woods. The ridge will normally protect them from the eyes of the enemy.

In the center, only one small team will go after Obj1.

On the left, same thing, there is a ridge that will cover the movement of my second splitted squad.

And this is it: baptism by fire 😕I hope my men won't suffer of my mistakes... On the right, the squad is nearly approaching the woods without opposition.

In the center, my team is quickly going to the house to have a LOS on German's AOA2.

On the left, no opposition so far.

One could think that these men are exposed but in the two following screenshots you can see that the ridge is protecting them

Overall situation at the end of the first turn. No enemy detected so far, not a single shot. On the right, I will detach one team to take a good overwatch position and monitor the second objective and the plan of the enemy to take the first one.

Ability to split a squad inside a vehicle or something like that. If I have a squad inside a Bradley, I would like to be able to disembark a scout team of two men without
exposing the entire squad to small arms firing.

ncc1701e reacted to Combatintman in New Scenario - Assault on Port Cros
I figured it was about time I created a scenario for this title and I am now in the closing stages of finishing off a scenario titled Assault on Port Cros. The scenario, while based on historical events, is not what I would term as an accurate representation of them so this is more of an attempt to offer something new and maybe different for CMBN.
    The basics:
Play Mode:  Allied vs Axis AI only.
    Battle Type: Allied attack.
Battle Size: Large (I know this is subjective so to qualify this it is an Allied company plus force against an approximate Axis battalion element).
Battle Length: 3hrs 30 minutes (although this may change based on final testing).
    Map Size:  2368x1264m
Requirements: Market Garden and Vehicle Pack modules.
The basics of the history are that the First Special Service Force assaulted German coastal defences, including Port Cros, on a small island group covering the approaches to the Port of Toulon to set the conditions for the main Operation Dragoon landings in the south of France in August 1944.
The following image forms part of one of the briefing graphics for the scenario:

1st Platoon, slowly but surely, moves forward to secure Obj Drake. Resupply is almost complete, though not without some quirks.
2nd Platoon got a new casualty the moment the first element reached the outer fence of Obj Morty compound... Nothing I can do about it.
The route for 3rd Platoon's movement is still not secure enough, so I wait before committing them.
LAR Platoon is on the move. I spread everyone out along the northern front, leapfrogging forward. Also ordered the LAV-25 crews to stick their heads out for a bit to check out the surroundings. The northern flank presents a dilemma. On the one hand, there's ~80% flat terrain, more suitable for mounted forces, and making dismounted recon elements very vulnerable. On the other hand, there are ditches and tree lines capable of hiding enemy infantry and AT assets. The ideal solution would be using LAVs on flat terrain while sending dismounts over ditches and tree lines, but that's not always possible due to some unique terrain features. So yeah, I kinda struggle to advance as quickly as I anticipated.
Scout Snipers have reached the Point 37 near Hill 42 (SE corner of the map). I'm not 100% sure if I should send them further north to the low ground area, or keep them at Point 37 hill where they'd have better overview of the area.
Enemy HQ combatant at Obj Vasquez managed to survive the Javelin strike! The fella lying next to him is supposedly the RPG-29 gunner.

I've got two Javelin teams placed strategically at high ground in order to be able to quickly hit High Value Targets as they appear (also for better spotting). The room that the RPG-29 gunner appeared the last time in is the same room an enemy HQ combatant have run towards/into. So I ordered an immediate attack on that room with a Javelin missile. The room has collapsed. In other news, 1st Platoon got another casualty during resupply... 2nd Platoon is still facing opposition in the first line of houses near the trenches but is ready to move into Obj Morty any minute now.
Enemy HQ spotted @ Obj Vasquez:

2nd Platoon receives fire from the buildings @ Obj Morty:

Javelin attack on enemy HQ & RPG-29 position:

1st Platoon is trying to resupply during combat, but can't find a better place for it. There's a large ditch on the left side of the road, and no way to drive into the alleys on the right side. So the resupply has to be done right in the middle of the street.

Hmmm. I've got 45 minutes until the time runs out. This is that phase I'm sure many of us have experienced when you think you're not making in it in time and rush things, making it worse for yourself. I kinda have to deploy 3rd Platoon to its objective areas ASAP. But the direct route there isn't cleared yet. What do I do? This is the route I think might be relatively safe:

LAR's LAV-25s roll over Hill 55 to support 1st Platoon:

LAVs level the building with the RPG guy inside:

LAR dismounts kill 2 out of visible 3 enemy SF FO team (hand grenades FTW!):

1st Platoon's positions: fighting in the streets, flanking fire by LAV-25s onto hit&run RPG guy, one of the fireteams resupplies from the amtrack:

Most of the 2nd Platoon is in the trenches by now. And we've got some enemy HQ pinned down @ Obj Morty:

Oh my.. Now the real chaos of war starts. LAR dismounts uncovered enemy special forces FO. 1st Platoon is in firefight against some AK & RPG dudes who do hit & run in the alleys. Fortunately, LAV-25s are there to fire on the northern flank.
But the real meat of this story is with the 2nd Platoon. They got an RPG in their faces (after my semi-failed smokescreen rush) and uncovered SIX enemy teams, 4 on Obj Morty, two in the trenches. The ones in the trenches are dead by now (I think...). But the guys in the buildings & on rooftops are harder to target due to all the smoke..

I have realized that, for so many years, I have only bought from Battlefront two games: CMBB and CMSF (plus all its modules). What is wonderful and very rare now in game industry is that Battlefront is still releasing free demos to try their games. I have looked at CMBN several times. Installed the demo and was continuing to hoping for CMSF2 even if I was not yet knowing it was an existing secret project.
But, for so many years, did I support Battlefront with free demos? I am not sure. So, thanks to @JoMc67 PBEM proposal, I have now bought CMBN big bundle. I think this is the best support I can give to Battlefront. Will buy CMSF2 upgrade when its done. It is not in September. I do not care. I care about a well finish product. And I have the intuition we won't have to wait very long before release.
    Just my humble opinion.

Light infantry in open air positions without top cover of any kind.
Soft targets in minor entrenchments, small structures, and heavy weapons. HE rounds stand a good chance to wreck crewed weapons.
Most targets lighter than a tank. Very profitable caliber when used against weapon crews and makes short work of most structures.
Anything. A really ubiquitous caliber for the most part that makes sense against all targets. Good for use in suppression or destructive fires. Airbursting rounds will cause casualties over a wide area.
Destructive. Even heavy armor should proceed with caution. Will level most structures and wipe out entrenchments with ease.
    See above in most cases.
Grid square removal. In the old days this caliber was the lighter end of siege guns and naval artillery. I actually think this range starts to become counter productive at the tactical level. The rounds are so dangerous that your own men need to keep well away from them. Best used against map rear areas.
Angles of fire. Also organization. Mortars are almost always left to the infantry although sometimes heavier mortars will be Division or Corp assets. Field guns trace their lineage back to the age of cannon and musket, being useful in both indirect and direct fire roles. Few exist today. They were usually lighter guns, prioritizing mobility over power but these descriptors varied widely by Army. Howitzers are typically large guns intended for destructive, indirect fire into and behind enemy positions. In the old days there used to be Siege Artillery too and it was used quite frequently up into the Second World War. Aircraft and nuclear weapons took over that job and now precision munitions are replacing both of them too.

Who gets more casualties? 1st Platoon gets more casualties. What a shock. Well, actually, RPG-29 team popped up on one of the buildings and made a big bada boom into my Marines' faces. RPG dude ran off fast, so there's little point shooting at that building. But I ordered some area fire and AH-1 Cobra strike on it anyway, just in case. There haven't been many of those so far, so why not.

2nd Platoon's AAVs were ordered back and high up the hills, to get better firing solutions.
