  1. I wish someone could clean up that documentary I have seen it before, I love the old VHS stuff! Many old vets talk about the war on VHS tapes still to be found.
  2. I didn't have have any trouble with the download speed but it was a little slow to start, how about some download mirrors to alleviate the flow? Back in the day I remember different websites could host demos, and get a ton more people noticing the game. PC Gamer and Gamespot did this. Now it seems everyone is too spread out with forums.
  3. A .50 cal is going to penetrate the soft upper decks of ANY German tank, very thin armor on top no ricochet needed.. German rifle and machine guns crippled and brought down US planes.. This was because the fact that the planes flew so slow at the time and had to get low to see objects on the ground making them an EASY target.
  4. I see. I wonder if they could traverse the hull faster than the turret. Would be neat to catch speeding shermans try to get at your flanks ;D
  5. I read something awhile back that Panther and Tigers have some kind of special engine allowing tracks to pivot the hulls 360 degrees without moving forward, I also read the allied tanks couldn't do this, any more info on this? Any advantage to fighting with this?
  6. Was the armor thicker than the m5a1? Also I suppose there is not much difference in the M3 howitzer opposed to the M2 howitzer some were fitted with. If someone finds info that states there was an M8 upgrade process, Otherwise I believe that facts point to there was not a released M8 upgrade. Upgrade probably meant probably from the m5a1 stuart. Thanks guys,
  7. Maybe the changes to the m8 versions were too minuscule to notice a difference on performance? Maybe I was wrong and there was only 1 version the whole time. Who is right the internet or old books? They both contradict each other these days..
  8. How do we KNOW the upgrade was cancelled?
  9. You are just looking at a prototype stuart with an open top and 75mm cannon (not m3 howitzer)..... This is no way an M8a1. Mis indentified as an M8a1. Probably passed down through gamers etc. Or might be fake. It might have been called the m8a1 but not a final version that saw action. The final version may have been called another name lost in history or confused with the old m8 etc. The M8A1 Final version Had a short barreled howitzer that looked similar to the M8 but some improvements such as which I have stated armor, howitzer, chassis improvements. "recoil surface as a part of the tube" -from wikipedia on M3 howitzer
  10. The M8a1 had a different chassis, modified turret and howitzer(m3) and upgraded armor compared to the regular M8 scott, will this be applied in a patch? I don't know the dates the m8a1s became available.
  11. Today I assaulted a hill with two greyhounds once the greyhounds got up at the top I ordered a jeep with mg to come up behind them, the jeep really came to life hunting suppressed troops around the m8s, that they could not see. Highly recommend using mg jeeps with armored cars, but only after the cars have 100% established a suppressing position. Slowly move the jeep ahead into the weeds down the hill some but not too far away from the m8s. Anything that shoots at the jeep is dead with the m8s anyways, although no one dared.
  12. My point was that mg-34 panzerlauf rounds shot from a tank cupola could easily cause major problems for a ground attacking P-51. Or half-tracks, trucks, jeeps, troops, armored cars etc..
  13. ^ Hopefully they will get added to the quick battles. Check out my finding at the bottom of the 2nd page link below
  14. I suggest you read up more on ww2 planes.. No education taken.. I'm not talking about radiators.. Liquid coolant tubing lines that constantly caused problems when they got hit by tiny pieces of flak or small arms ground fire, the whole aircraft would turn into a short glider..
  15. The MG would have been deadly against the P-51 and P-38 for sure, if they were in a ground attack mission. light arms or flak damage from them poor liquid coolant system that ran through the entire plane unlike air cooled p-47.
  16. The one in the picture has an AA site the gun itself and just because of that it wasn't just for anti aircraft, there was a ground range site as well. The allies had a .50 and .30 on some armor but they didn't use that just for anti - air defense either.. I can;t agree they were solo used for road marches or only AA defense, but I do agree now that they did not fancy commander mgs for tanks.
  17. There is an MG34 called MG34 Panzerlauf, it could be that. This from wiki even though I don't like to get old info from wiki.. Most German tanks used during World War II used the MG 34 Panzerlauf for secondary armament. The MG 42 was ill-suited for internal/coaxial mounting due to the method of barrel change. The main difference of the MG 34 Panzerlauf and the regular MG 34 was the heavier, almost solid armored barrel shroud, almost completely lacking the ventilation holes of the basic MG 34. When mounted inside a tank, the MG 34 also lacked a butt-stock. A kit for quick conversion to ground use was carried inside the tank containing a butt-stock and a combined bi-pod and front sight assembly. --------------- So this would turn the crew into a deadly mg unit outside the tank as well!
  18. I remember seeing some images from books in the very distant past of Panthers and Mark IVs (Don't know about Tigers) with MG-34s for the commander on the top of the tank on dome swivel mounts, is this a misconception or did they have them on the tanks ? Also did they just use them in the Eastern front or West or is this a total misconception?
  19. If I can get Fog to show in the old G.I. Combat game, it will show in Combat mission 1 games.
  20. I for 1, don't think the site is that messy. Navigating is easy. The list is buried here in one of these topics it has a lot of stuff! Also the manual has it listed here: PDF http://community.battlefront.com/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=5162
  21. Taking a shot in the dark but It might be skill level were they greenhorns? Also what if he was out of ammo for that MG?
  22. The only game where I can get my France 1940 groove on is Close Combat: Longest Day > Meuse Mod.
