antaress73 got a reaction from Bud Backer in Black Sea v1.03 released!
A company of M1A2s (14 tanks, including 5 with APS) frontal attack over 3.5-4km of open steppe terrain.. 3 krizanthemas hull-down on a hill... they kill 6 M1A2s.. damage another and the crew bails out.. 7 are left... The Kriz lose two (Ihad to move them a little and they got detected) and the remaining retreats downhill because no more ammo (but 4 kills). 20 T-90AMs who were waiting at the bottom of the hill get into hull down positions.. 7 were hit over the course of the battle by M829A4s where there is relikt coverage .. only one penetrated. A T-90AM survived two hits on the frontal upper hull because of relikt. It is very effective at 3.5km (6 out of 7 rounds stopped). I lost three T-90AM (two weapons mount penetrations and a relikt fail). They killed the remaining M1A2s. When lased they had time to back off and get out of harm's way ... Two had their 7.62mm mount destroyed by sabot rounds (close call). Shoot and scoot.
The russians were typical (some green crews, many regulars, and 1-2 veteran). The US were also typical ( a few crack, many veterans and a few regulars). Total tally for that US frontal attack long range slugfest at 3.5km... 13 US tanks destroyed, one mission kill and abandoned and 1 Bradley for 2 Kriz and 3 T-90AMs destroyed. The T-90AMs won 7-3 at that range against the M1s.
The russians were definitely broken before patch 1.03. Now they are nasty. Who needs the Armata ? They just upgrade the 900 T-90As to the AM standard (like they said they would do, read that on a russian site) and they should be okay.

javelin is like, wait for power up.. point... take a picture of the target and lock, and press the trigger no ? The observation capabilities seems to be a little more complicated though

T-72 and t-90A spot faster with thé commander unbuttoned and they are not as vulnerable to small arms as believed. It gives them a better chance against the Abrams

no offense but it sounds to me that your opponents are doing a poor job at adapting to your style. It seems like there are a lot of better things they could have done than bringing 15 tanks in range of your javs and letting em sit there till they get killed. If the map is big enough they could shoot from beyond the 2 km range limit. If that's not possible scoot and shoot can still work very well against javs. one can scoot into a keyholed fire position, blast a building or airburst a treeline, and scoot out before the jav can lock fire and land. artillery also works very well to suppress and or kill the javs. scoot and shoot plus artillery would be even better. and of course there is the I think more obvious answer, not bringing a ton of tanks and instead bringing a super big ton of mechanized infantry in cheap carriers. I think you can get about a platoon of Russian infantry in light armoured vehicles for about the price of a brad and a infantry squad or an even better ratio vs the US super cav.

Yeah, a lot of mortars/arty, applied liberally, are the counter to Javelins.

Anyway, none of it will happen. Unless the West miscalculates badly. A conventional war between Russia and NATO is impossible. It's either economic warfare or proxy warfare or Nuclear annihilation for all involved. War between nuclear powers is a fallacy. Especially considering the Russian soul. They are not afraid to die beautifully. In fact, dying without submitting is the most beautiful death of all in Russian culture. You have to take that into account. They are very spiritual and there is a revival presently. If you don't, they will bring you down with them. That's fact. Like it or not. Not all people in the world are soulless consumers that will do anything to survive, including selling their dignity.
Face with the choice of becoming again a submissive colony of the West or Nuclear death, they will choose nuclear death, for ALL. Dont worry, when it happens, the West will grumble but it will back down, they like their survival too much So no war but plenty of bad feelings. Bad feelings dont kill. You will never get the Russians to assimilate into western culture completely. And the same goes for a lot of other nations in the world. But most of them don't have enough Nuclear weapons to turn the West into a glassy parking lot. Leaving EASTERN Ukraine to the Russian sphere is the thing to do. They are not interested in western Ukraine. They are more than ready to leave those crackpots into our hands Ideals themselves are peaceful, History is violent, especially when mixed with Ideals. Ask Henry Kissinger, the best mastermind of international politics that the US ever had.

Kornet and kryzanthema will penetrate M1 frontally on : gun mount, turret ring. When firing from an elevated position you will achieve penetrations (and hard kills) on a non negligible basis on top frontal Hull and top turret, especially if the tank is driving down a slope or sitting immobile on a downward slope. The launcher will be spotted and die from other assets but hey, one less M1 to deal with.

Its like standoff boxing against an opponent who has twice the reach, a losing proposition.

I really like the T 90AM, it's a solid tank. If used correctly it can hold it's own with the Abrams. And it just looks really cool!

We dont even know what kind of data the game uses. Does it take into account that the T-90AM CITV has the same TI than the gunner.. What are the ways the game takes into account sensor capabilities and which estimation of performance is used ? We dont. There is no way to know if its realistic or not, one way or the other. Russian soldiers are actually told not to discuss their training standards and its enforced . They did mention on the english russia site that they now regularly do live fire exercices . They are not very forthcoming So we have to guess even on that so imagine technical caracteristics of in service equipment. So much we dont know and so much estimation is done that some bias is unavoidable. People are still arguing if russian optics in late world war II were pieces of crap for god's sake.
Battlefront caters to a western audience so its normal that if some bias is present, it will favor NATO because its human nature and Battlefront is a business. They wont aleniate their customer base when they have the luxury of favoring a pro American bias over giving the benefit of the doubt to russian capabilities when making educated guesses. As long as the game isnt too lopsided and some level of realism is achieved, ie: America is probably superior in many fields but not overwelmingly so to keep the game balanced.

while the Us tanker would spot it on thermals... identify it and engage it .. a faster time of 1-2 seconds is likely at range then ... seems reasonable and you see that in the game. I've had some success at ranges of 2-3 kms in the valley of death but my tanks were outnumbering the US by a factor of 4 .. even then the exchange ratio was 11-5 for the Abrams. Not something the Russians could substain for long. Like I mentioned earlier, my results at close range are much better (even when just considering who spots first) because then the russian commander sees the M1 .. tells the gunner who engage and shoot it without switching optics. Or the gunner himself detects it and snap engage. Less hesitation and delay because the optics are at that range more or less on equal ground.

so a russian tanker would spot a "glowing blob" on his thermal at 2.5km... switch to daysight with zoom to identify and engage it ?

No amount of ammo preservation rationale would make me ground humans to pulp with a tank. I want my nights to be reasonably peaceful once the war is over.

antaress73 got a reaction from DreDay in Russian motor rifle disposable RPGs and rifle optics
I've read a bit about what constitutes the standard Disposable anti-tank rocket for the russian motor-rifle troops. It's the RPG-26 because it is small and light. However, the RPG-27 was adopted to supplement it and packs a 105mm tandem warhead, I wonder if it would be made available as a resupply item in BTRs and BMPs (or ammo trucks) so you may acquire it . It is heavier and bulkier so you may have a weight penalty for the troops (not as heavy as the Javelin though). It would give russian infantry more punch and is not un-realistic. I also believe the RPG-28 (1000m+ of penetration) is also available but maybe only for the VDV,
ALso, from what was said here in the forums, both the squad leader and his assistant have scopes much like they are the only ones with radios. Maybe in a next patch.

antaress73 got a reaction from animalshadow in How to use the Khrizantema?
the engine was designed for world war II combat unfortunately. This is how they make their money. Doing modern is not really their primary mission but it does have an appeal. They have done very well with the engine they have. If they weren't making a foray into modern there would be no game like Black sea available on the market. There must be some unforeseen technical issues for placing a spotter on the radar/sensor mast as a workaround. Unforeseen consequences which we cannot anticipate since we dont know everything about the game mechanics. Heck, we dont even know what data numbers they are using for the modern stuff.
I would very much like this to be fixed but it just doesnt seem possible with this game engine. They are a very small company and they must be really careful, a big business mistake and it's so long battlefront. World War II wargames are very niche and when you're a company that caters to a niche customer base you stick to it or else you do it at your own peril.

That's ony lucky crew, although I'm sure they need a new pair of underwear That T-90AM was working on one of my infantry platoon and I urgently sent the MGS on a hunting command trying to keyhole the T-90AM through that opening in the woods.... almost didnt work.
