  1. I think the lack of postings was a bit sad. Although we have to remember that this is a gamer's forum, not an historian's one. If I want history I go to the B.B.C. I don't come here. Their coverage was brilliant, as per usual.
  2. 8.... The Road to Nijmegen campaign doesn't feature Churchills. Because the Guards were equipped with Shermans and Fireflys.
  3. A very interesting story. I'd never heard of "The Black Devils" before. Thanks for sharing this with us.
  4. Call me a boring old fart. But,personally I'd like a "Road to Montebourg" campaign where the AI has to make do with what the Wehrmacht had to hand, i.e. Hotchkisses, Renaults etc. It would a lot more fun, as well as historically accurate.
  5. Haha.. I'll certainly be hitting that area a lot harder they next time I do this campaign.
  6. Mission 4 ... Humpty Dumpty There is a railway line running right across the map. The station is on the edge of the first objective.
  7. Alex, your phrase "after several goes" made me smile. I'm glad to see other people have a struggle too. I do like Bren Carriers, but I'd lost so many infantry that in the end they had no protection. When I used to play CMBO/BB/AK I racked up victory after victory. This new generation of Combat Mission is a whole lot tougher. It is going to be a long learning process.
  8. I got my arse kicked on this mission too. The minefields around the Railway station took out loads of men. I thought it was particularly mean to locate one of them under a concrete platform covered in paving slabs... grrrr!
  9. I did once have an engineer team blast the hedgerow to their right, when I'd ordered them to blast the one directly in front of them, they ran through the gap and got slaughtered for their pains. They should have obeyed me. Haha.
  10. I found it a tad annoying when a breach team who'd run out of demo charges, wouldn't share their small arms ammo with a rifle squad that had run out of ammo. It meant that neither unit could do anything for the last ten minutes of the battle. Grrrrr!
  11. Back in the days of Henry VIII. His fourth wife Anne of Cleves was called the Flanders Mare, even though Cleves is nowhere near Flanders. Just because Bruges/Brugge was our main trading partner we thought of the entire Low Countries (including parts of north-western Germany) as "Flanders", and we couldn't be bothered to distinguish between the various duchies, counties etc. So it is no surprise that we think of all Netherlanders as being from Holland today.
  12. Thanks Erik I have read about Neuville-au-Plain in the past. So your theory might be correct. Or perhaps the scenario designer just wanted to see if anyone was paying attention.
  13. Erik, perhaps you know the answer to this. I've been watching a short clip of the Hunner Park mission on youtube. There is a location marked in red lettering called "le Pont du Neuville". That sounds a bit French to me. I can't find it on any map of Nijmegen past or present. Does such a place exist?
  14. I have to admit that when I played CMBO I didn't handle them very well. But that was me being stupid. They are certainly very versatile. And, of course, in real life, the fact that they were based on an early 30's Tankette meant that they were as cheap as chips to produce as the factories didn't need retooling.
