  1. While HE is strangely weak for physically knocking structures down, it still works just fine for killing enemies. A thing many players seem to miss is that cover also depends a lot on range. Enemies in houses, in trenches, and behind low walls are not so difficult to kill with rifles if you can get close to them (less than 200m, preferably less than 100m), but at longer ranges they can be very difficult to shift. HE works at any range.
  2. It depends a lot on the building type too. Barns are much easier to knock down, and the small garden shed types you can even demolish by 50 cal fire. Which is maybe also somewhat unrealistic, as I think those bullets would just pass through thin wooden boards and leave lots of individual holes. Of course with enough holes, there's not much shed left, but that would be a lot of ammo.
  3. I've often commented on how HE seems to be causing too little structural damage (in one game I saw a 105mm artillery shell hit a wooden countryside fence straight on without any damage), and it seems to me that we need much too much HE to even scratch buildings or knock a hole in the roof. However: You don't need to knock visible holes in buildings to kill the troops inside. Often, 2-3 hits from a 75mm gun will be sufficient to clear a floor, and even 37mm is plenty effective if you give it a few more shots. You just need to remember that enemy troops will often evacuate quickly, often moving down one floor, so if you only hit the upper floor, expect to find survivors on the ground level.
  4. Yes but I believe that's the percentage chance that any given unit will replenish up to 100 pct. strength:
  5. Not saying they're not doing anything, just that it happens slowly. They got CMFB out the door, but what about modules and packs (and bug fixes) for the other games? That's what Wodin was asking about...
  6. Apparently not. Having to manage so many versions of the game, each with its own packs and patches, might be bogging them down. Of all the sincere positive adjectives I could use about this game series' development, 'fast' is not one of them.
  7. However, we should not think that a new engine magically will fix all the problems of the game overnight. Most likely it will come with a lot of teething problems of its own. But if that means we can work towards a much better eventual game, I'd be happy to live with a couple of new bugs.
  8. The game uses a weird system for replenishing casualties - each formation is either 100% or 0% replenished. But maybe that's the way it was done, I don't know.
  9. I would love to see them finish the series on a better engine. There's no law of nature that says you can only update your game technology once every 20 years, and then you have to start all over again with Normandy
  10. Yes, I have a save. Had a strange feeling I'd be asked for one Will send it with the other file about the bridge. The thing is, you might have to rewind and replay the turn a couple of times, as usually you only hear the Germans. Then suddenly, you hear those voices from beyond the grave...
  11. No, I am one of the people who thinks my car is buggy if it sinks through a bridge. While the world's shadows are flickering on and off
  12. Campaign: Kampfgruppe Engels Map: Crossing the Dives Bridge type: Small stone
  13. I'm playing Germans, occupying a building. There are no Canadian forces nearby. When getting hit by artillery, sometimes Canadian (US) voices will shout "incoming, get down!" etc. There are Canadian dead/wounded in the building.
  14. While crossing a bridge, a Lynx tank suddenly falls through and seems to get stuck. Several other tanks already crossed without a problem.
  15. Interesting thing about Cholm: Before Kohlenklau did his map, I never heard of the place before. But I looked it up, and apparently it's pronounced "holm" with a hard h. That's actually a Scandinavian word, but it means something like a small peninsula, and Cholm isn't on the coast. Then I looked at the map and saw that it's located on a big bend and fork in the river, forming a peninsula... I think there might be some historical connections here.
  16. In my experience, there are overlapping issues. But it's only an issue if you have two flavour objects very close to each other - a flavour object has no problem being overlapped with a building, because a building is a different type of object. What usually happens to me is that I place objects too close and some of them disappear. I've never had any turn into other types of objects.
  17. Horses? When was that? And is that your actual portrait on your profile?
  18. I could imagine Danish forces being included in a Joint Expeditionary Force pack, centred on the British, and featuring the Dutch, Norwegians, Estonians, Latvians, and Lithuanians. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_Joint_Expeditionary_Force
  19. Ah I see. Sorry to declarify it. I assumed that the same change had taken place in both games. I shouldn't post before I had my coffee.
  20. Yeah both end up insulted, broke, and fat. Don't go there
  21. That's how it used to be in Red Thunder. Then in a patch, they reverted it back to the old system. I guess for the CMFB manual, they just copy/pasted a lot of old stuff.
