  1. You're just pennies away from being up to date with CMBN - you need to upgrade to 3.0 ($10.) and then patch to 3.12 (free) and you'll have pretty much the most up to date game aside from a fully patched CMFB. Seems to me that's a great place to start - plus CMBN has the most add-ons, which you own aside from the Vehicle Pack and Battle Pack, and there are hundreds of maps and scenarios from the community; possibly more than all the other games combined.
  2. Why, you might wonder, did Hpt. Warner talk about the men he lost in this war? Well..
  3. Martha did an awesome job! Feels very much like the desert as we play our scenario!
  4. Perhaps I'm confusing this with (small arms) bullets? Or do they also show no differentiation in protection? I wonder...
  5. Yes, this business of drinking almost the same day it's brewed is not in accord with my Trappist beer tendencies!
  6. Thanks, John, for your well wishes. I looked up Scouts Out and indeed it looks very intriguing. I ended up getting the Kindle edition. I always liked armoured reconnaissance so this should be an entertaining read. Thank you!
  7. I thought that skin mattered - that some buildings are brick or stone, and others wood...
  8. Thanks. I *think* we are out of the woods, at last. Haha! I was worried everyone would get tired of waiting! I've acquired a fair bit of them in the past couple of months in iBooks format. Great reading and I know I'll be going back to them hundreds of times, just like I did with Tintin. If I can suggest an interesting view of WW2 - read Hugo Pratt's Scorpions of the Desert Thanks - as I continue writing these I find myself wanting to give more personality and humanity to the characters. It will be interesting (to me at least) to see what I will be writing a year or two from now. I've got a good cast for each side I want to show. If I can make them more than pixeltruppen then I'll be quite happy.
  9. The dust was provided by CMFI. I suspect that when @kohlenklau made the map he might have set it to very dry ground conditions, and likely sand and dirt for the ground cover. I do not think that there is actually a large amount of sand - maybe in patches, but overall the ground is more firm than that.
  10. It's a Bofors 40mm - though at a distance it might be hard to tell one large AA mount from another.
  11. Well that was uncharitable and not in the least helpful of her. Flashback can be overused, that's true, but I've used it to great success in some SF writing I've done a few years ago. It would have been more helpful for her to give you suggestions on how to use it more effectively, rather than shut you down like that. But I do thank you for the compliment, it's greatly appreciated. Yes, my point above. Agreed. Well, seems everyone had the same feelings about this. Cool.
  12. Thanks, Heinrich. I spent some time trying to both frame the shots as well as tweak my photo processing to try to make the terrain stand out. It's not easy as there is no great tonal range, and as black and white is utterly dependent on tonal range (just as Ansel Adams) it's tricky to show to full effect. If you can see the variations in elevation I've succeeded wildly!
  13. So, that's my in-story acknowledgement of the rather long delay in resuming this little tale. Sorry about that guys, several rounds of hospitalization for my wife left me so drained I was not going to do the story justice if I just "forced" it. I am feeling more up to resuming now, and @kohlenklau has been very patiently waiting so I owe him my heartfelt thanks. I will take care of some rather belated replies here as well now..
