In truth, that's what I meant. -
"Red Hordes"-results and impressions to the game(play)

As a serial lurker who has barely posted here but has learned such a great deal on these boards I'd just like to briefly interject to show my appreciation. Not only of the tips/info/wisdom/explanations I have been able to absorb and then utilise or discard, but also (with notable exceptions - then I grab some popcorn) the patience, generosity and decency with which it is generally shared and given. And that (obviously) includes Steve and the guys. Thanks. Call me a fanboi (is that right?). I may of course be looking through 'la vie en rose' (Côtes du Rhône since you ask - anniversary of VE Day, my excuse and I'm sticking to it...hic). Cheers everyone -
I'm no 'digital wargaming master' but my search for a 'realistic' tactical WW2 game ended the day I downloaded the CM:BN demo. I've since bought all of the CM games. Not least because there are/will be user generated scenarios I'd be surprised if CM:RT doesn't tick your boxes; and then some.

Getting back into combat mission. Advice on which to get!
Lawrence replied to wamphyri's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
Given the information you have given I would also suggest CM:BN. I have had CM:RT since day one but have been returning to CM:BN regularly. In other words, the improvements and new features of RT are significant and very welcome but the bottom line for me is that RT hasn't rendered BN and FI obsolete or anything close - quite the opposite, as the V3 measures will be ported to these games in time. What a long-winded way of saying that if the NW Theatre is your thing and buying the entire family is not currently a preferred option, buy CM:BN -
Just got the email saying 'shipped'. Not looking forwards to paying the madly unreasonable tax (I'm in England - happy to pay tax when I see what I get for it). Really looking forwards to getting it, particularly the manuals

I think c3k nails it. Would be great to see implemented, if indeed that is possible, or indeed deemed high enough up the 'list'.

Yup. Seventhed. A regular bug bear for me too. -
88mm gun please be transportable and (semi-deployed)

Some of the comments here and elsewhere kind of remind me of a character out of Mel Brooks', 'The Producers'. -
Massive thanks and appreciation Aris. I downloaded the T 34 pack yesterday - what an improvement. And doing stuff in packs is really helpful. Glad your cat is on the mend. I'm a fellow cat person meself.

Oh I am not complaining or indeed predicting problems. Will be an interesting journey Still rolling with the punches of it in RT and loving it.
-
Fully agree with all of that Mr E (I'm sure I've seen similar said before ) I was trying to be somewhat lighthearted with the Patton remark and indeed to ferry guys around out of immediate contact, sure. I was surmising that it will be possible to ride your guys into the cauldron as the allies in future if you want - that'll be interesting.
-
Indeed? In fact, why didn't Patton do it?
-
I guess the (tank riding) functionality, once introduced to NW Europe and Italy, will test the desire of the player to apply historically accurate modi operandi to their play, or not. To date I have only played single player so won't be an issue until I play other humans, but I wouldn't be too pleased if I was regularly battered by tank riding allied forces in NW European scenarios

Questions of relativity aside which don't appear to be the OP's concern (i.e. should I buy shoes for my kids or a computer game), the answer is a definitive YES, YES, YES. For me 'value' is more relevant than 'cheap' and this game has, and will have, tons of that moving forwards. And of course there will no doubt be a demo coming for those who want to try before they buy. I am working away from home at the mo' and have no way of playing any CM except at the weekends and so I got a lot of hours in last weekend. Bliss. And as I left I kissed the wife goodbye but as I have not received the physical copy yet CM:RT has to suffice with a salute-like wave and a longing look at my screen.

But what about the sudden stomach cramps/headache/nausea you must be experiencing?

I was intending to wait and avoid the customs duties but saw this and just bought it downloading now at 2.5 mega a sec. Happy days - goodbye weekend of gardening:cool:

Second Rock Paper Shotgun Preview Online

I wonder if the surrender rules and behaviour has been tweaked to reflect this theatre? -
I'm off to Normandy tomorrow until Sunday 30th March. When I return it will be British Summer time and CM:RT will be waiting!

CMRT - BETA AAR - Soviet Side
Lawrence replied to Bil Hardenberger's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
Congratulation Bil on comprehensively turning the tide and reporting with such flair. The vids are excellent as are the pics and text. I noticed watching the deep strike that tank 3 was slightly in echelon and the dust trail from tank 2 was acting as a smoke screen. Intentional or not (and no doubt intentional from you?) that was very neat. Many thanks. I am certainly looking forwards to this release -
Many thanks womble and Vinnart. For some reason I thought those buttons were for RT only since I started playing the game and had forgotten their existence! I could also have checked the manual before posting. Doh.

What is the evade command?
