  1. Doh! The agony and the ecstasy... and then the agony. Back to my hole then....
  2. Yup, that's the one I saw - that is definitely good news! So do I get prize?
  3. Redemption! Redemption! Blessed relief... For new urban combat, I think my earlier guess might be right - have another look at Cpl Carrot's comments. On PIATs - at risk of getting it wrong again, I thought we could already fire PIATs from buildings?
  4. Looks like I might have won the bet - does this make up for me thinking the MP40 and Thompson share the same sound??
  5. My bet - Ambush command - I think Steve mentioned bringing it back a while back.
  6. Ouch! Sigh, I was sure they were the same - at least the default sounds (that was my last try at saving face - did you notice?). Here's the link to the first one, on Youtube: http://youtu.be/kecoEvifBk0
  7. This would be absolutely great from my point of view - the more varied sounds the better, as for me sounds add more atmosphere than graphics - I've just been watching Ithikial's excellent AAR on the Niscemi mission - up to episode 7, and hearing the modded sounds of the 105 artillery barrage on the hill was incredible! I was actually cringing thinking of the PBI stuck in the buildings. In particular, am I right in saying the MP40 and the Thompson share the same sound at the moment? If so, it would be great to separate them out (if not, shame on me).
  8. That's an interesting US Squad - two BARs and an MG - is that the default for Airborne in Market Garden? Now that is a serious amount of firepower (pre Flakvierling that is....)
  9. Just had a go myself - what a great map - definitely some surprises! As others have said, take your time - that 'small area concealed from town' is very handy to set up MGs and mortars to deal with the church (there is ammo resupply for the MGs so you don't need to hold back). The East Ridge tree line is also good cover from the town. Good luck!
  10. OK, now I know what I'll be doing for the next couple of weeks. Time to pull up the easy chair and pour a glass of wine.
  11. OK, just (completed) this campaign - overall a really enjoyable campaign, with some great maps and a good choice of units for the germans - I loved playing with the Panzer III's - I think I almost prefer missions with tanks that are not completely dominant, and where you have to be careful with infantry/armour co-operation. The last mission - suffice to say that I Cease-Fired as the clock was running down and most of my PIVs were gone - I had a good force at the beginning but this map is a demonstration of (among other things) the effectiveness of AT guns at longer ranges - almost impossible to spot and murderous. I thought the force balance was too heavily in favour of the allies - may be historical, but I would much rather a scenario that was winnable (perhaps give the player a choice of final scenario - realistic or balanced??) So thankyou FMB for all the time you put into this - I had a great time for most of it - perhaps someone can put up a video of how to play the final mission?
  12. ****Spoilers**** Just had a go, third time through did it with one casualty. Got everyone out of sight at start apart from HQ unit, with covered arc, spotted snipers quickly. Called artillery on the snipers. Then used smoke to get to side of train buildings. Area fired into first building for some time (lots of ammo), then threw smoke into building and stormed, area fired next building along etc. Then lined up the brens to take out the LMG. Surrender. Squad smoke key to this one. Great mission.
  13. May have been raised before, but a hotkey toggle that would show suppression state (icons have different colours for different levels of suppression). If unidentified shooting occurs, I sometimes spend a while clicking through the units to see who is being shot at. May also be handy to have the same for condition (broken, etc).
  14. Hi Penry I was wondering whether your infantry grabbed the bazookas off the half tracks?
  15. Hi waclaw I would be more than happy to help test - I haven't done anything like this before, so I would need a bit of guidance. I have downloaded the sounds and there is a significant, definite improvement. There are occasions that I have noticed where a sound does not 'work', a BAR is noticeable - it does work sometimes though, and there was a lot of other sounds going on at the same time, so there may be a system reason for this (i.e. certain maximum number of concurrent sounds, or distance might also be a factor).
  16. Well you can definitely count me in for a start waclaw (sounds like it may be more work than at first sight though). I bet there are others that would be interested too - I think I've seen other threads mentioning mac sound problems.
  17. Thanks Strachwitz, that would explain it. Can anyone recommend a good sound mod that is Mac compatible:confused:
  18. Yes Michael, it would be the area in which you can plot an artillery strike and benefit from the TRP, and would only show up on set up or when you are setting up a strike (e.g. a highlighted disc around the TRP point, like the cover arc highlighting). I am having a go at the second Troina mission now and this would make things slightly less impossible (I will be well chuffed if I can get past this one, seems like there is a whole battalion of dug-in fanatics up there!!). Even more cheekily, I have a question - if I et up an area fire, do I get the benefit of theTRP even if only the nearest edge of the area fire is within the radius of the TRP (up to now I thought that the centre of the planned strike had to be within the TRP 'zone' but now not so sure....)
  19. OK, not a major one, but when plotting artillery strikes, it would be good to have a toggle to show TRP zones, as I currently have to do this manually. Also it would be handy for these zones to show up during setup too.
  20. I don't think so, although it may be my setup. When I use any sound mod on my MacBook Pro, most of the sounds do not work (silence when sound should be happening). It would be great if anyone knew what I was doing wrong, but otherwise stuck with the default sounds.
  21. What a fantastic AAR Baneman, and well done for the victory. I was checking in every day to get my fix. I have definitely learnt a few things from it, I think I'm far too static when defending, for example. What do you think about the rematch? I hope you're up for it and can have a go at another AAR, but in any case, thanks for all the effort you put into this - it was much appreciated.
  22. How do you think you are doing at the moment Baneman? It would be good to get your thoughts of your position. Have you committed all your troops too, or is there any fallback position? I think I saw a truck at the bottom of your setup - did you empty it of ammo or could there be some 9mm there? Keep up the great work!
  23. This is a great AAR - much better than playing - all the fun without the stress!
  24. Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. Steve/MikeyD, I'm downloading CMFI demo as I write (I have not yet upgraded to v2). Thanks Steve, I've turned everything off and set all the graphics settings to highest, and there is a definite improvement with no real slowdown (I turned shadows off). Umlaut - thanks for the feedback, I have always been a bit scared running Bootcamp in case viruses get in via Windows, I guess I would need to get an antivirus programme too. Peter P, what version of the iMac did you get out of interest? But... compared to the CMFI video in my first post, there is still a definite difference in quality. If I could point to one thing the trees, and in particular, the wavy branches blowing in the wind. I am getting serious leaf envy here! I'm guessing this is down to one of three reasons: 1) The graphics quality is not just dependent on what the user selects as quality, it is also dependent on the video card itself (there is some logic behind the scenes that detects certain capabilities/memory of the graphics card and sets the quality accordingly) so if I want wavy branches I am going to have to upgrade. 2) the graphics quality is dependent on the version - I'll need to upgrade to v2 (will soon find out when I fire up the demo) 3) There is a mod for wavy leaves, in which case, can anyone put me out of my misery?!
  25. Hello all, I'm a long time lurker but regular reader of the forum (36 by the way). Apologies in advance if I have put this thread in the wrong place... I am running Combat Mission on a MacBook Pro mid 2009, and my graphics are fairly basic. I'm thinking of an upgrade to one of the new iMacs, but I'm not sure what the game will look like. I have seen quite a few videos but I'm not too sure what machine they were taken from. I saw this Youtube video last night and I was blown away by the graphics: http://youtu.be/xhSRZ7FIp6A I hope the above link works? So, I think what I am after is if anybody else has a new iMac could they share a link to a Youtube video showing graphics quality? Any other input would be welcome (I've seen some discussion that running Bootcamp gets a better graphics quality than the native Mac, for example). I have a great time reading the threads in this forum, but you guys can be pretty hard sometimes, so please go easy on me if I've screwed up!
