  1. I lived in The Netherlands for 7 years. I remember signs on the side on the road warning drivers to wear sunglasses when the sun was low. The visibility was terrible then. I was in command of ships then and spent my time staring at the horizon. Lens flare is real and very annoying. Ball caps were not for fashion but for blocking the sun. The worst time was when I was entering a westerly facing lock in Antwerp and the low sun was directly in line with the lock and also reflecting off the water in the lock. I slapped two pairs of sunglasses on to be able to conn the vessel into the lock. I don't like it in the game, but it is realistic. Imagine the troops on the ground staring in the direction of a low hanging ball of fire with dust, mist and other crap in the air. ****ty, but realistic.
  2. Failed to heed my own advice and never rant on the internet. This does nothing to encourage discussion. Apologies for losing my cool. Should have waited five minutes. Unfortunately had just read another few threads on the whole upgrade vs patch thing and lost it.
  3. I am not sure the government is scared of my old Lee-Enfield.
  4. Steve, I just want to get on here and write in full caps with asteriks between that there are some people here that are a bunch of whining etc. I cannot believe how some people just belabour a point, in that they somehow think they have been screwed over through some kind of patch/upgrade issue that they disagree with. The internet is off course the perfect anonymous forum. I think I fired one of these people yesterday. Obviously none of these people have ever actually tried to produce something for money and have absolutely no idea of the pareto prinicple. You must adhere to the pareto principle to get ahead in life, or anything. Spending time on the other 20% gets you ignored, bored, mal-adjusted, or just plain dead. Wonder how many people would play your games if you made the first one perfect but never produced another game for 10 years. Anything interesting changes and is never perfect. That is why it changes. The past is never perfect, never will be and it cannot be changed or made better. Learn about your human nature and realize the the perfect little comfort zone you want to be in is the exact place that is holding you back from living life! Buy the goddamn upgrade. It costs three coffees at Starbucks; can take you 10 km in a car (or 5 in a truck); a drink at a fancy bar; a big bag of nails or the upgrade. Seriously the bag of nails is the best deal. They will work silently holding up your house for the next 50 yrs. Meanwhile the $10 dollar upgrade has already caused me to use up 40 hrs of my precious life! Keep up the good ****.
  5. and then driving stick is awesome. (if not stuck in traffic)
  6. from a noob, I played the training campaign, and also the really small scenarios.
  7. allready anwered my age. First introduction was a classic game called art of war where you had archers, spearmen and swordmen. Then came Gato - subsim. then M1 tank platoon. But I got hooked on the John Tiller Battlefront series. Norm Kogers Operational art of war for about a decade. Got my moneys worth on that one.
  8. ok, Played both sides and could always win. Thought it might be fun as human. Any suggestions for good starting point for first FI human vs human?
  9. Ready to try FI with PBEM. Suggested scenario is the first one with the italian and american patrols
  10. thanks to all the replies! now to get it figured out and started.
  11. Hello Fatehunter here. I have tired of the AI and am willing to challenge a human player! I have CMBN up to V.2 and CBFI. I do not suggest I am at all a worthy opponent, but I am willing to try! suggestions on other sites or how to go about finding opponents welcome! thanks
  12. Here is an interesting fact. WW2 was as far away in history to the boys going to vietnam, as vietnam was to the boys going to the first gulf war. A generation forgets quickly. I am 40 and in my last 20 yrs I have seen the WW2 vets go from a a strong presence and remembrance day to just a few old codgers in wheelchairs. Life goes fast and many, if not most, do not have much interest in the past. What I have been finding is that the old adage that one must remember the past so as not to make the same mistakes is not always relevant. Those fellows who made the mistakes were sometimes unlucky, sometimes they did not try hard enough, and other times they were just stupid. Surprisingly the exact same tactics sometimes work now. This is what I find in my business. I have spent sometimes too much time studying the past instead of just trying something.
  13. 40, now I need to add characters to allow the message to post.
  14. When you break down the cost per hour of play-time for these games, these games are ridiculously cheap. Try doing anything else for this price. Even a paperback book ends up costing more per hour than these games, (unless it takes you years to read them - how long do you play these games for?). Have you tried chasing women? Much more expensive and the reward, while oh so desirable, is much more elusive and not always what it seems. If you prefer playing these games then you are engaging in one of the cheapest leisure activities that I know of. I don't play because of cost, I play them because I like to. I am also married, but guess what, I still spend lots of time and money on my wife. I did not get married because it would be cheaper! I like her, I want to keep her with me, and the relationship is important so I spend my resources on maintaining it. Note that I spend resources on maintaining the relationship, not on maintaining her - she makes her own good money and is way to stubborn to let me support her. If Steve the admin guy (who sounds like the CEO) gets rich off these games, that is awesome. I like the guy. I would hire him. I buy these games to support the developers and to play them. I think I would donate money to keep these type of games going. My biggest fear in the world is the take over of the FPS game.
  15. it is a new feature to CMFI. says so in the details. I actually looked for it after reading about it. excellent improvement
  16. oh yeah, My dad was French Foreign Legion in Indo-China. They shipped him out 'cause he scared the French officers more than the VM.
  17. Can we stop the childish discussion around which is the more horrible way to die? It's like 'my dad can beat up your dad'.
  18. Holy ****. Trying to play the American campaign. Obviously I would have been a poor commander. Impatient, blow all my artillery ammo, lose my scouts. I love this game.
  19. It's a ****ing game, (that is more realistic that anything out there). If you really want to eat dirt, then go join the boys and girls out there. I think I know enough about war to not want to be there. (every good war movie is an anti-war movie). Grandpa in the Dutch underground; dad was in the FFL (Indochine 52-53), 2 x Croix de Guerres, 1 x French silver star, six bullets and 1/2 pound of grenade shrapnel. Uncle as doctor in Indonesian revolution, Brother in Canadian PPCLI. Crazy stories. One man takes out 3 machine gun nests. Other time .50 from miles away drops the sergeant. The only constant in war is that there is no constant. Appreciate the game for the incredible realism. Offer constructive criticism. Realize it is a game. I love this game. It takes effort, hard work, lots of thinking; gives you lots of failure, and rewards perseverance. Hey, kind of like real life!
  20. Goddamit Sburke, you got it right. When people claim the game is ruined due to some minor issues, I can only imagine that person as a 12 year old with little life experience. Having played wargames since 1985, this is the best iteration yet. Minor frustrations in the games are just like life, you deal with it, find a way to work around it and make it work for oneself. Now I am off to work, which is not always what I want it to be, but I make it work, and I love it. Michael
  21. Nice! Not common knowledge (I always forget most of the hot keys.) thanks
  22. What is the actual effect of providing 'buddy aid' to your wounded soldiers, other than the ammo sharing aspect? Does providing buddy aid stop soldiers dying and reduce your casualty list? Or is is simply a interesting feature with no real effects? thanks
