Yes, and just how much balls you Brits have, we can every day read in the news...😀

BletchleyGeek reacted to Bulletpoint in European Union Army
I think that's a quite superficial analysis.
The US spends more on military and NATO contributions, but the EU spends more on humanitarian aid and global development (as share of GNI).
Or to stay in your metaphor, you're pushing down on the lid of the pot to prevent it boiling over, while the EU is trying to douse the fire below.
This arrangement actually benefits the USA, because you are able to translate your military investment directly into geopolitical influence, whereas the benefits of global development are more widely distributed and don't always return directly to the donor countries.
Also, by keeping the EU military small, you're neutering a potential future military rival and keeping EU countries dependant on the USA.

Some screenshots, just for you my friend.
The assault ship USS Wasp.
View inside the well deck of USS Wasp looking towards the stern. The well deck is made possible by the bridge inside of a building trick discovered by @RockinHarry.
The USS Wasp deploys a USMC beach assault unit with the USS Ticonderoga in the background.
US Marines watch from the starboard hangar of the USS Wasp as the USS Ticonderoga engages attacking aircraft.

I will not be posting up a challenge battle this weekend. Real life has been challenge enough for me this week and I did not have the time to complete one. Hope to have one for you all next weekend.

BletchleyGeek reacted to Falaise in Question about infantry animation files
I have try both, I prefer the stock one
I remember going over obstacles like that with all my packs during 50 km marches, this is the movement we had been taught !!!

I might do once it´s all properly tested, particularly in H2H games and such. Also like to wait for oncoming patches first and then see if it still all works.

BletchleyGeek reacted to RockinHarry in Question about infantry animation files
Just found another good "jump" animation file substitute (unarmed-vehicle-crew-exit). As said I find the stock games "jump" animation looking bits too athletic, considering usual combat loads, late war physical fitness (lots of less well trained and physically fit draftees, conscripts ect.) and all that. Also it makes more sense to me if using crawl or hunt mode and then our pixeltroopers beeing required to cross an obstacle (fences, low wall, trench), that they do in more cautious and less conspicuous ways. They also might have kicked out boards from a fence or slip between wires and such. The substitute ani file sequence might not look that appealing as the original, but still does the purpose appropiately well IMO.
Download straight into data/z (file is unpacked). Do not like? Just delete from folder again.

BletchleyGeek reacted to John Kettler in Ideas for CMx3 Armour Penetration Effects
On rare occasions, tankers have seen a main gun projectile coming right at their tank, in the form of a rapidly growing dot. Fairly sure it was in Crisp's Brazen Chariots, and I believe I've seen at least one other such mention. Have a friend who did two tours in the Marines in Iraq and was manning a guard tower. Said he saw a mortar round come right through the camouflage net and past his face, with the munition apparently landing in a ravine or something so that he wasn't hit directly or indirectly when it blew up. Altogether too exciting for my tastes, but much better than what could easily have happened!

BletchleyGeek,
Great vid, and it illustrates some of the points I made in another post regarding projectiles deflecting, prematurely detonating, etc.
SlowMotion (but really for those who've only ever known CMx2),
BTS had tanks continuing to move after killed but not K-Killed way back in CMBO. It was one of those things which sold me on the game when it was only in Beta Demo. My StuG III acquired, tracked, fired upon (gun recoiled) and nailed a crossing Sherman. It rolled I forget how many tank lengths before stopping. All this was on a screen model smaller than Micro Armour™!

John Kettler

BletchleyGeek reacted to sttp in Update on Engine 4 patches
Another view is to flip this around and ask why wouldn't they have been working on the patch this whole time?
It's been 2 years and 3 months now since they broke some pretty fundamental parts of their own game -- broken to the point that many people can barely enjoy the typical stock scenario. And not just one title broken, but all of them.
When the issues with v4 were first brought to light, I would have never believed that it'd still be almost literally years before we saw them fixed.
Perhaps Battlefront needs to start actually paying more testers and content creators, in order to get things moving along, instead of relying on the generosity of so many volunteers?
I've defended Battlefront and heaped praise on the game many times over the past 4 to 5 years, but at some point a customer's patience and good will just gets used up.
"Niche market" is no excuse for a fix to the underlying game engine to have taken this long.

maybe a good time for revival with the ani mods currently beeing tested in H2H. Final evaluations are to follow in next weeks coming I think.
To something different: another animation sequence I personally find somewhat...errm....too sportingly.. is the "jump" (fences, walls, trenches) animation sequence. Considering usual combat loads and such I could imagine something more appropiate maybe. I´m just about testing the "hunt level short" sequence as substitute for "jump" and while also not that perfect I find it somewhat more convincing.
What do you think?
Before I upload anything you can try yourselves. Unbrz "Normandy V100a" then in "a/animations/kar98" take "kar98k-hunt-level-short.ani" and put it into "data/z". Rename this to "kar98k-jump.ani". Done.

No idea what is the movie but this selection of scenes is quite awesome. Just in case @Battlefront.com is considering upgrading the text messages and the decals...

What the hell is 'snak'? I understand that English is a living language which means that it continues to evolve, but I am far from convinced that its evolution should be in the hands of idiots. Not that I mean to say that BG is an idiot; in most things he has been reasonably sensible. But whoever was responsible for this particular barbarism should be locked up without access to the internet and fed only bread and water until he or she has come face to face with the error of his or her ways.

This is a bit ironic since we're waiting for a patch to fix problems introduced in a patch...
There's a middle ground between not testing things at all and then on the other hand testing things for more than two years.
Also, nobody is demanding they release a flawed patch. But maybe releasing the patch that's has been done for a while and already is in CMSF2 would be nice.

Yeah, I'm a little puzzled at lack of news and lack of patch. I mean, I have spent plenty of time managing SW projects, so crap happens. But we have been told over and over that its soon, right around the corner, etc. for quite some time.

The designer can assign preplanned (AI Plan) arty fire on AI 'Friendlies'. And when the scenario starts AI will bombard and massacre its own units. Just paint the area required.

BletchleyGeek reacted to RockinHarry in MG Deploy/Pack up times
It´s basically just unit experience and whether beeing in a house or not for determining deploy/pack times, whatever the figures are based on RL. I.e a conscript will take double the time than an elite crew, with regulars right in the middle. I also noticed differences for HMG able to act in "half deployed" mode, i.e MG34/42. Unfortunately I don´t have FI or RT, so can´t compare.
