  1. Actually this thread has been civil too. Sure people are disagreeing but hey that is allowed - right. I am sure there will be more disagreement and I hope this forum keeps its reputation as being a civil place (relatively speaking). I only think we have a problem when people start in with the personal attacks.
  2. In the tradition of the inner boards: First.
  3. Well I know why they did it - security. They want the Program Files folder's locked down as much as possible. But I fear you already knew this and were being sarcastic What I don't particularly like is that we have no control were our saved game files end up. I am fine if the directory structure needs to be a certain way. I am not asking to open things up to have individual paths all over the place. But I would like to install CMFI 1.0 and have its games be under one top level folder while I also have a CMFI 1.2 installed who's game files are under another top level folder. That way when I open the 1.2 version of the game I do not see the save / PBEM files from the 1.0 install. Of course adding command line support to CM would make me happy too because then CM Helper and Whose Turn Is It? could open each PBEM file with the correct version of the game nicely (see my sig)
  4. Yeah, I am not a fan of this. I would prefer that this be modifiable (override during installation) so I can keep my PBEM games separate and not accidentally "upgrade" game files when my opponent is not ready to.
  5. And if you have your user account's "My Documents" folder redirected to another drive the game will use that. I actually have my games installed on the C: drive (small SSD) and my "My Documents" set to point to my D: drive (big HD). So if you want you can get all of your stuff on your E: drive - but only if you move your whole "My Documents"
  6. But isn't the Ranger, and Spetsnaz forces the ones that are likely to be used this way? It seems like you will likely have what you want really if Chris does what he talked about above. Or are you looking for nifty uniform and kit choices? Now that would be cool. Not sure how easy it would be to implement but even if there were several top level formations each of which have some interesting variation of platoon structure. That still sounds like a lot of work for the TOE guys (aka Chris and or Steve) but making the force selector support more customization might be even more work. I have no real idea. It would be kind of cool. Ick - rarity set to none
  7. Welcome, I can tell with all the new people joining the forums this is going to be a fun year! BTW your English reads very well - certainly your English is way better than my anything else. How I ended up with a son who is a fluent French speaker and now learning Chinese I'll never know. I really know nothing about it but aren't there issues with wear and tear with that kit? Now that is cool. It would suck to live down wind of that exercise - your life is cancelled this afternoon because you cannot see anything It thing the problem here is no one would attack into that so if a tactical engagement was about to start and a screen like that was put up the whole show would be put off. I think it would really be something that an operational game could implement but is probably outside the scope of CM. I think this hits on a similar issue - this is really an operational trick rather than a tactical one. Even if the trick had a tactical effect it could be covered in the briefing talking about the equipment your were facing only to find out at the end of the battle it wasn't there or was much less than expected. You might find the answer in the pre release version of the manual: http://community.battlefront.com/topic/117390-black-sea-manual-get-it-here-while-its-hot/ Regardless of if it answers your specific question I am sure you will enjoy reading it.
  8. Yeah that is down right creepy. I expect a DOS attack against the Battlefront community servers at any moment because Battlefront is hosting such an image
  9. Cool. I did not even know this was modelled. I have not been in command of many M1s in game - I seem to be leading the Russians most of the time.
  10. Hee hee. Just make sure any pill you take don't effect your judgment - you will need your wits about you on the battle field.
  11. What is that saying "I don't have to out run the bear I just have to out run you". Sorry @sburke looks like @Baneman has a head start.
  12. Which is called "Bizerte - Basic Training" and there is a chapter in the manual that goes with it.
  13. With the exception of the tutorial campaign - start there and then follow the path you outlined.
  14. LOL yeah that would be a good idea. But I am sure your opponents will have other ideas.
  15. That is a good technique I do that in the ww2 games if the FO is in a risky place.
  16. You just have to look at it like the gear was damage by the same thing that injured or killed the soldiers.
  17. Also note that to embed a video the link should be just pasted into the body of the reply. If you use the url button it will appear as a link and not be embedded.
  18. Of course no one but you can decide if you will find it fun. Lots of things in this thread speak to the differences but a lot feels the same. You still have to find the enemy and then figure out how to coordinate your resources to push them off the objectives. I have no modern experience but have played the WW2 games extensively. I am enjoying it a great deal. Hopefully you will too.
  19. Steve likes it too, so it is unlikely to go away :-) The other camera controls all still have it. I truly hope for a toggle one day.
  20. But here in lies the problem: exposure to more people is not what Steve is objecting to. So, if people keep railing that BF is ignoring a large market they are missing the main point. It is the inability to control the way *his* product is sold the concerns *his* business. So, if he takes the leap and the loss of control hurts their profit margin and the magic of more exposure does not make up the difference then he loses *his* lively hood. As far as I can tell two things need to be satisfied for Steve to reconsider (of course that is up to him not me): Some hard facts about how this larger number of gamers will actually result in more people who want to play CM. Remember just repeating things like "but its x million people", "more exposure means more sales", or anything else like that does not count. That is not an argument and it does not help your position. You can say totally unsupported things all you like but it does not make them true. Go find some actual evidentiary support for those statements (Hint probably need to conduct market research, including focus groups etc.)Some clarity that Valve does not behave like a retail store. Steve has said they were hurt by (or at least disappointed with) other retail partner's actions in the past. Valve looks just like an old retail store from what Steve can see (*). Valve makes its game developers sign NDA agreements so there is no way to find out things that might reassure Steve (or not). Sadly this is not something that you, Steam advocates, can do much about because it is Valve’s policies. I recommend you go and share your passion about getting CM onto Steam with Valve and tell them that this is a problem they should fix.* Note: this part makes me laugh. So many people keep saying senseless stuff like "BF should join the modern age" but it sure looks to me like Valve has a very 1980s retail store type business model. Sure it is dressed up with the latest tech but if the terms and conditions have not changed then I it seems to me Steam is the one stuck in the 1980s.
  21. Good, just making sure - since some tempers have been flairing.
  22. LOL. Just move the mouse pointer close to the edge of the screen. The result will be a rapid camera movement in that direction.
  23. What @Holman said. The scenario designer picks the length of the scenario. One reason is to reflect some external schedule - which you already alluded to. The other, practical reason is that the AI battle plans for a scenario are partially scripted and its moves are based on the clock. If the game kept going the AI controlled troops would stop doing anything.
  24. Keeping in mind I do *not* speak for BF I have never seen them say anything except that their plan is to release a new game for each year. The chatter around her about using modules instead has never included anyone from inside BF. I personally believe there is no need for a final decision because they already made one. Like I said I have no special knowledge I just think any impression there is uncertainty is purely manufactured by us rabble out here.
