  1. Yes, hiding will help. Heck hiding just in the open is better than not - not a good place to be so difference might not be very noticeable. Sandbags, walls and buildings don't do as well as fox holes or trenches but hiding will make it better whereever your men are. Just don't for get to un-hide when things quiet down. Otherwise your guys will not defend well.
  2. I strongly suspect that they are being scaled to 32 by 32. For my modded icons I stayed with 32 by 32 which is the default. Is the "looking bad" because of scaling done by the game? You might be able to scale them manually (with touching up) and have them look much better. To see what the game is doing in terms of scaling you could create a 128 x 128 with squares 2x2, 3x3, 4x4 etc and then look at them in game and see what scaling the game did to them. Get in close to see the max size of the icon and grab a screen shot. Then you can compare your test pattern to the in game rendering and you should be able to tell what size the game is scaling the icons too. It would be awsome if it was something bigger than 32 x 32 but I would also be surprised
  3. Indeed. Are you aware that the space bar displays a popup menu? It may not be fully what you want but it could be close.
  4. Indeed. And if we find ourselves not having chosen sides you can rest assured that some charismatic leader will turn up and point out some sides and convince people to go at it.
  5. LOL but there are four different definitions that could fit in a forum context listed under that link.
  6. OK that's your prerogative and totally fine. May I ask that you send me a PM with your site user name and your email that you created the account with. I can then ask the powers that be what happened. We currently have one admin that is dealing with RL issues and it is his job to contact people then a gentle poke from me might get things moving. I understand that life is short and you have to invest time where you think you can get the most return, keep in mind that many of these gaming sites are volunteer run and plenty of stuff falls through the cracks from time to time but we all try to create a good environment.
  7. Sigh, it's time to just give up guys. We are talking across each other.
  8. Those sound like interesting future changes - or not. But how does not having those in the v3 engine not make the features in v3 major improvement over the v.9 or v1 engine? Oops did I just triple negative myself into saying it wrong? The point I am trying to make is here we are talking about is the feature set in the v3 engine significantly improved over the v1 engine. Not what you want to see in the v4 engine. Well there already is consequences in terms of morale and information sharing. Given that this sim pits you in the command role all the way from team leader up to battalion commander I don't see how it would be reasonable to prevent a squad's Sargent from ordering area fire on a suspected enemy position to protect his squad. Just because the Lt is out of site does not suddenly mean the Sargent will be unable to act in the protection of his men. Yep, or have the tac AI make better choices. Improving the tac AI would be my choice here so that the AI gets the improvement too. You can do this now with cover arcs. Yep. Or again have the tac AI be able to figure it out. Pretty tough to figure out though.
  9. LOL, exactly @Muzzleflash1990. This looks like yet another example of someone who has certain expectations and considers changes that don't meet them as insignificant. We all feel that way to a certain extent I suppose, most of us just choose to accept that there will be changes at times that don't excite us. I do have trouble visualizing what changes @Pericles is looking for that he would consider significant give that extensive list though.
  10. That's to bad. If you change your mind and pm me and I can poke the right people about a solution. I believe that message means that the ISP you are using is or has hosted spammers and now has their IP addresses are black listed.
  11. And @Michael Emrys has been around these forums three times as long as I have
  12. There have never been any sales that I can recall. They do make bundle deals but those are still not really sales because the price is set for the long term.
  13. Well that sucks. Forums often have aggressive anti spam procedures in place. Sorry you got caught in it. I am sure they can sort it out. If you have any trouble you can PM me here.
  14. Yikes. Note to self remember that strikes you call may still happen if your FO gets taken out. There is another reason that an CAS run might not happen - enemy AA activity. Sometimes the AA weapons don't take out their targets but instead they "convince" them to go away. I am unsure if that explains all or any of what you are seeing. Yes, I too have noticed that artillery and mortar rounds fall outside the green circle. I always make my circle a tad smaller than I might knowing that there will be spillage.
  15. Never mind - figured it out. Email sent with three.
  16. I am unsure if this is realistic but it is how the game behaves - loose the drone controller while they are controlling the drone lose the drone asset. In one way it makes sense that if the guy holding the controls gets taken out and the control box is wrecked as well, the drone is effectively lost. Even if it has a "come home when comms lost" mode it will not get back in the air any time soon. I don't know enough about drones to know if that works for some or all or none.
  17. I believe the primary use for WP rounds was to set a smoke screen. They are differentiated in game because WP has some additional effects and was only available for some weapons systems. In the end the usual goal was the create a smoke screen.
  18. It just so happens that when I create an AAR and publish it here it starts as a Word doc, which means I have three that are mere clicks away from being PDFs. Does that email address above really contain _ characters or do we replace them with your name spelled out?
  19. Well we don't intentionally pick poor ones to play but the main goal (after getting people together to play who might not have otherwise) is to get some experience with some of the scenarios. One of the best things about the Blitz is the scenario database with the play record. You can look at the list of scenarios and see which ones are balanced for H2H play and which are not. But that only happens if the scenario get some play. And coordinating a group of people to all play a scenario at once gives everyone data, comments and ratings on the scenario. You can find all the scenarios with H2H play records here (lots more than just CM games BTW): http://www.theblitz.org/scenarios/b-15.htm Here is a few specific examples: Cutline to Grosshau: http://www.theblitz.org/scenarios/combat-mission-final-blitzkrieg/cutline-to-grosshau/b-15.htm?action=scenario&id=11547 It is a well rated scenario with what looks like a slight balance in favour of the Axis side but you can see the players felt they had a reasonable chance to win. People had fun so perhaps giving the US to the more experience player could put things in nearly perfect place - but regardless it looks like people had fun playing it. Probably a good choice for H2H play. Attack on Verrieries Ridge http://www.theblitz.org/scenarios/combat-mission-battle-for-normandy/attack-on-verrieries-ridge/b-15.htm?action=scenario&id=3689 Looks about as well balanced as you will likely see and reasonably well rated too. This looks like a great one to play - I just add it to my list. Bloody St Omer Chapelle http://www.theblitz.org/scenarios/combat-mission-battle-for-normandy/bloody-stomer-capelle/b-15.htm?action=scenario&id=3596 Looks like an unbalanced scenario but not a total lost cause. It rates well so it could still be worth playing but at least you know what you are getting into. There is a side goal to make tweaks to the scenarios that are not balanced to force them towards better balance for H2H play but no one has actually done any edits as of yet. Perhaps one day.
  20. That highlights one of the best things about this game IMHO. Because of the FOW you can think things are going badly or at least not according to plan but you have no idea what the other side is dealing with. +1 Love those icons BTW
  21. Agreed. Don't forget CM is a marathon and not a sprint as well Pace yourself and take breaks - but not 10 years long man!
  22. It is more likely a model positioning problem. Bottom line yes, it is a bug.
  23. Quoting the part I am responding to is exactly the right choice. Granted your post was not particularly long but sometimes people write a wall of text, quoting the whole thing just to respond to one or two lines is not good forum etiquette.
  24. It has been discussion before. Many people suggest it as a feature to add. IIRC BFC have said there are significant challenges and they do not feel the rather large effort is a good way to spend their development time. Turns out I have links to the last few times this has come up - enjoy: This one has some thoughts from Steve:
