  1. Well since we are speculating I reckon it (Pacific CM) would start pretty late in the war. After all CMBN, CMRT and CMFB all start in 44 and CMFI starts in 43. THe most appealing Pacific base game would also start in 44, probably late and might feature Phillippines, China Burma and maybe Okinawa. There might be enough tanks to play with in these campaigns, but like you I am not so sure.
  2. Yeah I guess so . Imagine a scenario based on the battle for Tarawa for example. What a torturous grind that would be.
  3. So a Pacific CM is undesirable because of a lack of armored combat? I'm not sure I see your point.
  4. Right on. Saipan, Manila area, Guam isnt much jungle? (I think) , Iwo Jima certainly not jungle, Okinawa, New Guinea has some varied terrain. I have expressed my hope for a CM Pacific in some old threads. I'd buy it for sure . I don't start threads about it because I figure nagging the BF guys about it will kill any hope of it ever happening. So I just hope and if it happens it happens.
  5. The captured German medic was interesting, I wonder if he was still treating wounded. He looked at ease anyway
  6. nice game play videos , i admire the skill of his handling the units. A minor pet peeve of mine, not related to game play; The German panzer commanders always wear a "barracks cover" rather than a garrison cap or panzer beret. Just a minor annoyance.
  7. True, WEGO is best way to play.Otherwise, its just a clickfest.
  8. I read something a company of Hetzers destroyed over 30 Shermans with no losses in some late war action. I am trying to find the article, seems pretty remarkable.
  9. I am intrigued, please elaborate more. Also could we have some of the commands that CM1 had like 'shoot and scoot" and "human wave" ?
  10. Exactly, I used to play titles like "Nato Commander", and "Airborne Ranger" and "Gunship" on a Commodore 64 in 1988. To me CM2 is amazing. I guess as an earlier poster said "thank goodness I'm in the minority " Oh yeah also "Red Storm Rising" .. had tons of fun. The magical early days of PC gaming.
  11. Not me, I vote play at lower resolution 1360 x 768 or similar. That looks pretty good with this game. I am hoping for the next modules for Italy, East Front, and maybe a Crossing the Rhine one.
  12. I played the Kampfgruppe Peiper campaign several months ago so my memory has faded,. I remember the last scenario the spearhead of my force was a couple of King Tigers. Anyway in the first few turns they were pelted with hundreds of hits from everything form .50 cal to 75mm etc, soon their optics were smashed and they were basically 70 ton hulks of useless steel, at least in the sense of helping me win the scenario. This experience has forever changed the way I see the "formidableness" of the Tiger II. It was kind of a "buzzkill" in other words :-(
  13. And then there are scenarios like "Colossal Crack" the excellent cross section of Operation Goodwood. I really enjoyed that scenario. One of the tests of a historical scenario to me is how well does it compare to what really historically happened. I thought that scenario really nailed it.
  14. I think Axis Minor forces vs Soviets would make for a fun and interesting CM. I guess I'm in the minority with Steve on this. Really looking forward to Rome to Victory though and whatever else might be planned for WW2.
  15. I dont know about all that but for some reason, I just thought of a new "modern" Cm game that could be pretty neat. Why not an India vs Pakistan based CMx2 title. Those people hate each other.
  16. One time I was playing a CMRT scenario and was playing German side and drove my Pzkw Mk IV into a little villa with some woods, where it was ambushed by some Russian SMG squads. A lucky grenade or molotov hit caused the crew to bail out . I remember chuckling as they stood in aggressive poses, popping away at the Russians with their pistols, seconds later they were slaughtered by the Soviets ppsh - smg fire. I was amazed that the German crew was so brave and defiant. Normally, as you all know armor crews become shaken/broken right after they bail out and they almost never rally. What is going on? I am not off topic because it has to do with the title of this thread.
  17. Sounds like someone wants to make a scenario with a certain Sturmbannführer Heinz Schmidt in one of the units. I remember the famous photo of him walking with his troops, wearing his unbuttoned greatcoat, which displayed his badges and medals on his tunic. This was of course in the early hours of the offensive. Very nice. The thing about greatcoats is they should be against international law, because they deflect bullets thereby protecting the wearer and giving an unfair advantage.
  18. I think the main reasons are its a lot of work and time. If you want a historical scenario you have to research it. Otherwise you might as well just use the QMB. On the research part, I have attempted to make a few from old ASL scenario cards with mixed results. Another challenge is getting the units to do what you want them to do and not just sit at the edge of the board. I realize there are are some tools like "triggers". I have not really passed the learning curve on all the subtleties. Like others I'd rather spend my spare time playing than working.
  19. My daughter took me to see this movie a week ago, she knows WW2 has always been a topic of great interest to me. I tried not to nit pick too much but it was obvious the sparse numbers of troops, ships and aircraft when in reality the area was crowded with all the above. One thing though, and maybe I got the wrong impression, but it seemed the British were almost unfriendly to the French when several thousand of them were also evacuated, isnt that true? Also a bit of perspective from the German side would have been good I think, but there wasn't any. I had a few other minor criticisms but I'll spare the forum. I give the picture a 7 out of 10
  20. Yes I play this game. Looking forward to flying on the Kuban maps. I want to fly the P-39. It was a dog for the Americans but the Russians did well with it.
  21. Yes the final installments of CMRT and CMFI I think will be the last major WW2 modules we will ever see, apart from a couple battle packs; Not what I would prefer but the die has been cast. So to fellow WW2 fans I say lets savor it while it lasts. After that BF will work on the "modern CM' modules with all their packs and modules, After that the BF team will take a well earned retirement. How do I know this? I don't, it is pure speculation but that is part of what forums are for isn't it? Oh wait they might do one more for either CMFB or CMBN taking the war across the Rhine to VE day. Its not that bad guys thats an awful lot of great content.
  22. Or like when you suffer a lot of casualties trying to take a building. Finally a handful of men get there and it seems like it was worth the cost. Then the building is sprayed with a short burst of MG fire and the men sprint out, into the open street, more or less toward friendly lines.
