  1. The low walls around buildings I think is a good idea for fortifying a building better. It does make engagements last longer as the soldiers become hard to hit.It can force you to take another approach to the situation instead of just area firing until everyone is dead and gone. These are some good ideas and as a player of missions designed by everyone, I would love to see new tricks and fortifications used. The more ideas the better and anything that can keep a player on his toes and pondering is welcomed. I wonder what other little tricks people come up with, because these are good.
  2. Those are some awesome pictures. They would make for good recruiting posters.Just goes to show, that the military guys get all the fun.
  3. I don't have an official answer, but if i were a betting man, I would bet on Pashtun, it's said they are the largest ethnic group in Afghanistan and are very influential in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Many moved into Pakistan as refugees during the Soviet Afghan war. I would not expect there to be much dialect unless someone put out a voice mod like the famous one we have for CMSF right now.I would only expect maybe 5 or 6 words to be used to describe certain things like moving around or seeing a tank, but it should be interesting to see what comes out of it.
  4. Stepping on a mine is the only way to know there's a minefield.I don't know if there will be some changes with the NATO mod, but I hope so.A mine sweeping vehicle would be nice to have, but I guess we will see what happens. As it goes now try to avoid any area that is suspected of mines or any obvious routes that look like they could be mined.Same goes with IED's.The Brits I think have IED jammers, but honestly I have not yet seen them in action.
  5. CMSF Afghanistan gave us some good bones. I like the order. When Afghanistan comes out,we switch up the tactics and story line and gives a change in role playing. When NATO comes out, everyone will be happy to go back to the Syrian series for a while again. Then the complete switch and overhaul of battles and tactics will come with Normandy as it brings us to the WW2 Western Front. PS, I think many people will probably still play all 3 titles at once when they are all out and released and not just trade off one for the other.
  6. Red Card on the very first post in the forums.I think that's a sign of a rocky relationship in the making.Army life is rugged and you better be mentally and physically tough, that's all. Since this thread was brought back to the surface,I might as well type that this ranking chart was extremely helpful for me.It gave me a better understanding to what ranking the squads were made up off and how many privates and corporals are in them.Helped me out with my AAR's and now whenever I mention a squad in a report, the rank and name follow. Thanks for this download,i still got it and use it:)
  7. That's a lot missions to test and I don't know if I will be able to find time to write a report on all of them with out stretching it for a few months.Personally it might take me a while to finish the campaign, but I'll tell you what, I will be willing to maybe give the first 3-5 missions a good run and to try hard to beat them and I will post a report in the forums how you like on how it played out and what was done as well as feedback on what i thought of the mission. After the 3-5 missions that I play, i will see if I can maybe continue for another 3-5 missions after. It will depend on the time I can put into it, because now in my part of the world, Summer is around the corner and activity is picking up.I will go bit by bit and see how far it can take me,but I cannot make a long term commitment or promise that I will report on all the missions in the campaign even tho i want to. Maybe others can also report on certain missions that they played as well in the campaign.I would think that many people would like to give a red campaign a try,so there should be no shortage on comments of the campaign missions, it's just a matter of stepping up and typing how things went, good or bad. Let me know in what thread you would like to see the report for all to see and when the files are ready to be played.I'll try to do my best. I'm guessing that the creators of this Red campaign are Alex and Alek?
  8. Seems like the Syrians could not recover from that well placed artillery strike. Good report and excellent screen shots. There's some real money makers in that batch.Well done and congratulations to the victor named Stoex and congratulations to The Vulture for putting up a fight and posting the action, i enjoyed it:)
  9. Good friends are hard to come by, so its a blessing when you have someone to help out in times of need, especially when its life altering events and you need a place to crash or store valuables for a while. Hope things work out for you John Kettler whatever the problem is that made this change come about. In sickness or in good health, rich or poor, with lady luck on your side or not, fight it to the end, and keep on truckin:) Wish you all the best, from a stranger in one part of the World, to another
  10. But with the pin still in it I hope:D I haven't seen this series yet, but you can bank on it that I will.Looks very good.
  11. That's the impression I got from the Bush administration. They thought they were going to be the greatest liberators to walk the face of the earth and everyone would applaud at their glorious feat. As for the Vid it seems like there were more unarmed men then armed men, and the US in some cases usually back off from a strike when that's the case(suppose to anyways). That's why some insurgents fight with civs around them, they know the Coalition will get all the negativity for shooting back.In other and different scenario vids you could see some Apache crew patiently waiting for the insurgents to move away from houses and civilians in order to engage and some never even pulled the trigger to engage, because of unarmed men are near, and i think that is best for this certain type of war.Detective work should be done on some lower levels to find out who was there and then possibly come back and quickly raid the suspects and apprehend or kill them. Some people have a mentality when a civilian gets killed they put their arms up and shrug their shoulders saying "oh well that's war".This mentality is not progressive nor is it constructive in solving the war efforts.Such mentalities belong to the falling failing conquerors who want to hammer everything under rule, then wonder why they lose in the big picture. When a soldier under your command falls victim to an enemy weapon, you don't just shake your head and say "well hey that's war for ya, people live and die".I would say as the one in charge it is your duty to find out why your soldier fell victim and how do you change that so the situation does not repeat itself.Did the bullet go through the armor? if so where and how do we make it stronger so it doesn't happen again.Did the soldier fall victim to an IED? if so where and how do we prevent it from happening again and what must we make stronger and where must we be better.Did a soldier fall victim to an RPG in an ambush? if so where and how was it done and how could you conquer such a scenario so it does not happen again.Even if he fell victim to an automobile accident,No matter how a soldier falls, you should look to improve and revolutionize your methods and gear so it does not happen again, and not shrug your shoulders and say "hey s*** happens".With such a mentality you will fall victim to the same propaganda and chaos time and time again, until the war is over and the cause is lost. All that applies to civilians as well without hesitation. It's a soldiers duty to protect civilians regardless of nationality or religion, that is a Soldiers priority along with preserving his own comrades who walk beside him. When he puts on that uniform, in my mind he is stepping up to the plate to possibly take a bullet and lose his life so a civilian does not have to, hes the soldier, the one who runs into the fray while everyone runs away from it.It would not make much sense to hurt the very people you are fighting to protect. A lot of people talk negative about the West thinking people fight to rule. It's not for rule of the world as some would think, but rather the idea is to fight for a more stable environment, free of hard suffering, and sometimes to achieve this in our world, you need to be top dog, no bones about it,that's how it is.Some people in power can be fanatical about this, but that's the beauty of democracy. He won't be there forever. Another thing I learned on this Earth is, Fools talk loudest, so therefor they are often the ones who are most heard.Sometimes I find myself trying to straighten out a fools words because they fell on so many ears, that people start to think everybody is a fool.
  12. That's a nice piece of propaganda film:).No German casualties and it seemed to be a fairly organized clean and proper kind of war.The music they use for these old black and white war clips or reenactments really don't do it justice, i Mean, is that not one of the most annoying and out of place tunes or what ? In one scenario they throw something called blinder grenades and it makes the tank crew bail out of a perfectly good tank. Then they kill the crew one shot each with the heavy MG and hand gun lol. What expert marksman they are and those powder puff grenades seem more capable then the anti tank mine. What are those blinder grenades suppose to be made of? The procedure seems reasonable, obstacles and smoke to slow down and blind the enemy while moving in to place a charge, but I don't think it played out as neat and tidy in the real war(it rarely does) as portrayed.Recruits who watched this video and told themselves this ought to be a piece of cake, were probably in for a harsh wake up call when in the field near the steal beasts.I don't think one bullet was directed at the Germans the whole time and the tanks seemed to be deaf, blind, a bad shot and dumb all together. I bet the Hitler youth would eat this stuff up:D
  13. Seems like the Brits were able to hit hard and now have forward momentum. That's going to be very hard to stop especially with Challengers roaming around. Seems like that fire mission in the beginning that hit a good amount of Syrian forces really hampered the Syrians capabilities of hitting the Brits hard. That well placed British fire mission seemed to have caused the Syrian forces to be stretched thin and confined them to a smaller area of movement and defense.Main roads are usually the main arteries of and Urban body environment. The one able to gain LOS and control them will be able to cut off the paths of reinforcements or troop movement, causing them to be pinned in one area of the urban environment, any one who attempts to move across the main arteries roads will get hacked, so the one who controls the main arteries, controls the life of the battle, and now can concentrate on certain sectors. If all else fails, you can always count on your AGS teams to dish out some heavy blows, just like they did.Being ambushed by an AGS is a nightmare, one I'm sure all us players felt at one point, and can cause a slow down or gap in the opponents lines, hopefully causing him to slow down and shift plans and forces to compensate. It must be a very high intensity battle, judging by the look of the map.Seems like the battle will revolve around close quarters fighting. The Syrians should be able to do some heavy damage in this situation even if the battle looks to be lost for the moment. Most are familiar with the term "Phyrrhic Victory", a victory that feels more like a loss because there is no more capability left in the victors army, and that's the victory you want Stoex to get if any Another saying comes to mind along the lines of, you fight not because you can win, but because you can lose. Those path finding bugs can be a real force killer. For the moment I would say brush them off as the Squad Leaders personal mistake and bad call,as well as a miscommunication with how command wanted the plan to play out.Sadly it does happen in real life and lives are paid for it, but you can't always personally take charge of how you want your men to react at a certain time.Sometimes command is left with a what the hell are the troops doing thought, and sometimes the troops are left with a what the hell are command doing thought also. But yeah, bottom line for that is it does suck when you lose men to a bad path finding issue, I feel your pain:( Keep it up,this is another outcome I am interested in seeing,as well as seeing how both players react and move. Looks like things might be heading for a last stand, give em hell, the both of ya's
  14. WOW!!! Nice Bradley Pictures. The Tank In the first post, and the Bradley pic are looking like master pieces. I got myself a new graphics card and I can now play CMSF with all settings maxed out.I can't wait to see how the screen shots are going to turn out now.The little details really make the game come to life:)
  15. More pics A Syrian soldier turns the wrong corner and meets a British firing Squad. Unconventional Crack sniper drops 2 different moving targets from around 600 meters out. Both targets try to point out where the shot came from as they fell. Same sniper and position, new target. A Marine carrying a SMAW jumps a small wall and receives multiple small arms fire from the houses behind while doing it. Even in big battles with many people by your side, there's always a one on one moment that emerges.
  16. As for my Challenger tank going through the building, it was in the scenario UK The Full Monty.I played it in single player and made an AAR for it also. The glitch took place in the east part of the South Block area on map.I have no more saved games, because I just upgraded to Windows 7 and added a new Graphics card, so all old files are gone.I'm happy to say that I managed to reinstall CMSF and the Mods with no problem on my new system.I only wished that I remembered to save a copy of my Marines campaign game. As for the movement command, I gave the Challenger a straight waypoint order to its spot on the other side of the building. At the time I didn't care if he chose to go left or right around the buildings so I did not lay down a clear path with multiple waypoints.I did have him close to the building and i also set the waypoint like that to see if he would go over the ruble.Instead of going around the buildings or over the ruble he from what I remember got hooked on the building and then went through the building. That's the only time I ever saw a vehicle go through a building. I haven't seen any troops go through tall walls like the original post shows in my games. Those are some really stealthy Syrians.
  17. I would like to see more men in some Unconventional squads.Maybe almost as many as the Marines to simulate a Mob or just a larger grouping of men coming to battle.I think they would put up a good fight and make some engagements last longer. Can't wait to find out all the goodies they are putting into the NATO mod, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on a copy.
  18. I played it once just before I upgraded my computer and i got chewed up by the Challenger tanks, but this was a fun scenario and I liked it due to its toughness. You really have to try and work out a good plan to halt the Brits progression, especially those Challenger tanks. Spoiler-------------SPOILER------------------------------------- I pretty much left the initial set up as is and decided to roll with it instead of trying to form my own plan.I wanted to quickly try this mission before I upgraded my computer, so I kind of winged it, but I will try it again, because it was challenging and I want to see if I can beat it.Are there several AI plans? At first I tried to get 3 Syrian tanks to guard my left flank and help those Syrian troops that were holding in the trench's.After seeing some Jackals and troops I tried to move the Tanks into hull down position, but they were a horrible shot and my left flank got blown up and pounded and was completely annihilated. The tanks were hit by the Challengers and Javelins I think, and the Syrian troops in the trench's were hammered constantly by British artillery until no man was left standing. In the center on the front lines I had all the Syrians in the trench's hiding until the Brits forces came closer. As the Brits Infantry closed in and were about 50 meters away, the Syrian troops unleashed their ambush.I think I might have taken out close to 2 British sections in the close distance ambush without a loss, and managed to pin the others for some time as i tried to get Mortars to strike the area, but when the Jackals approached with the Grenade launchers, they cleaned out the trench's quickly. One well placed grenade would instantly take out half the Syrian Squad and eventually the front line trench's would fall. During the whole game except for that one ambush, the Syrians would prove to be a horrible shot. Some troops had the Brits in their sights around 150 meters away in the open, but could not hit a single Brit throughout the 5+ minute firefight. The low walls around the house's did help preserve the Syrians from being shot and firefights would last a good while without anyone being hit.It was very cool to watch and the low level skill of the Syrians was expected,as it was mentioned in the briefing that they would be unorganized. The fight for the Mosque area lasted a while, but eventually the Syrian troops who were tasked with guarding the Mosque would flee on me.At first I had them hidden, but when some Brit troops were near it in the open, I got the Syrian troops to quickly run up to the 2nd floor to try and shoot the Brits who were close. The Brits fired back, and the Syrian troops quickly panicked and took their own initiative and ran back down the stairs and into the building in front of the Mosque, but still in the same compound. From there they got into a firefight with some British snipers near a low wall in some bush's less then 200 meters away. The fight carried out for a while,no one was getting shot and I could not command the Syrian troops, because they were panicking the whole time, but they still remained and fought for the time being, until one Syrian troop got shot by the Brit sniper. After that, they all fled on me and left the Mosque unguarded and I would not be able to get troops there to claim points. On the right flank, I saw some Jackals closing in and I tried to get a Syrian tank to go into hull down and take out the jackals. He managed to hit one, but constantly missed the others, and the other Jackals ganged up on the tank and nailed it with a bunch of grenades.Soon after, something big hit the tank and that was it for him as well as any Syrians in the trench's on the right flank. The right flank has now fallen. The Challengers were moving down the Highway in a column and my ATGM teams would take their shots, but would not last long. They got I think around 3 to 4 shots off, and I think only one hit a Challenger, where as the others hit trees and corners of buildings. The tanks would send a volley of return fire at the ATGM's and they soon became history in seconds. While all this was going on, British Artillery and Air units would bomb and strike all over the map constantly. They nearly missed most of the time, but they did manage to get in a few good strikes.I almost lost 3 squads in the beginning as they ran from the Command area. The fight for the Barracks was swift when the Challengers rolled in.They leveled all the houses there and nothing was left standing, so I was also unable to get points for that area. As the Challenger tanks rolled along the Highway, i had a hidden Syrian tank hidden in a compound and he was able to get a good line of fire on the Challengers rear area less then 200 meters away as they rolled passed. The Syrian tank would miss every shot he took and would have to constantly try and shoot and scoot to avoid Challenger fire. The Syrian tank was surrounded by Challengers and was hit a lot ,but still managed to stay moving and intact, but soon after all his instruments were damaged, they panicked and reversed into Most of the Challengers line of fire and got dramatically overkilled. The 3 remaining Syrian tanks at the end of the map in the rear near trench's never had a chance. The Challengers took them out swiftly when they approached, it was like shooting fish in a barrel for them. Now the Challenger tanks were at my rear positions, the Flanks were secured by jackals, and the British infantry were at the front moving in and only made it just passed the Mosque area.Time ran out and I took a loss. When I try this mission again, I'm going to try and move all my tanks to the left flank and keep them hidden, and I'm also going to pull my troops back a bit. With all the British artillery coming down it makes it hard to fight and pull back at the same time, so I will try to strengthen the rear areas as best I can before the hard fighting starts. I did like this mission and it is Hard. The briefing was very well done and I also liked the map.I found it very hard to put up good resistance against the Brits, but for the second time around, I will look at the map more closely and come up with a better plan to try and hit those Challengers and to deny the Brits the Points they need to win.I was hardly able to use my mortars, because they took a long time to call in and my spotter would not be able to adjust quick enough to get eyes on where I needed it. I'm still looking forward to playing the Red Campaign and I got a feeling it's not going to be easy at all:) Keep up the good work. Oh and I played on Real time Iron.
  19. The Brits got their own testing going on and now those Syrians walking through walls will have to be more cautious of the Challengers with the same ability The tank seemed confused around the destroyed buildings, so it decided to take a short cut through the first floor, instead of going around.
  20. Use Fraps. Its small and fast to download and works well.F10 for screen shots and F9 to record. That print screen button is the most useless key on my key board and it never worked once for me.
  21. That was horrible. The Gunships were wrong for what they did and authorizing them to engage did not help the situation either. In my view, that is the very reason why you don't talk all that smack on the battle field with blood lust,it clouds the judgment and forces errors because all they want to do is pull the trigger so badly while acting anxiously like someone that has to go to the bathroom in a hurry.Look how it can bite you in the ass when exposed and everyone else hears you, like family and friends and the world around us.Not good for those pilots and not a very honorable act. I'm sure it was not their intention at all to go out and kill the civilians, but I'm very sure that they were eager to find targets and engage. They are going to have to live with what happened, and that's not going to be easy when they step out of that cockpit.
  22. Ha! that was funny. At least that old tractor is still useful for something.I loved the part when they paused for the tractor to have its short solo.
  23. Thanks for the English link.I too was lost in the first Russian link and didn't know where to click.I'll give it a try when I have time and I'll post some feedback. RadioactiveMan, your Red vs Blue campaign sounds good also.If you ever find time to finish it and get it out there for download, i will no doubt give it a run.
  24. That's what I thought to, until i watched the first op.After that, like i said, i was hooked and I'm not one for reality shows either, but I liked this one(and the UFC one from time to time), and the final battles had me wide eyed.Might not be every ones cup of tea and i was close to writing it off myself, but I'm glad i watched,it was entertaining. There was a Navy Seal on this show by the name of Stephen "Scott" Helvenston. He came across as a childish hot head when angry on the show, and frustrated the other soldiers on the show causing some personal clash's.No one liked his attitude much, but he appeared to be a good guy if he wasn't mad or speaking about personal rivalries.Later on I came to learn that he was killed in the famous 31 March 2004 Fallujah ambush. He was 1 of the 4 Blackwater contractors. This show is old and I'm not sure when it was done, but i would like to see another.
  25. I never saw this show before, but when i saw them play out the war games using the Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) gear,I was hooked instantly after the first mission.I really liked this show and would love to be able to participate in these games. It was posted in 2006, but maybe some people might have missed it and are interested in it.This link brings you to episode 1, part 1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KE8XZxNgwtA I would love to see another season of this reality show.
