Not worth the programming diversion, imo. Then there's the the aesthetics. Blecch. And how granular should C2 be in a simulation? Armor Cover arc, yes it would be nice. But the AI, in the CM1 series, was never enabled to use it. BFC might have felt that this was unsatisfactory. For CM2, they evidently thought they could make the TacAI more judicious about when to employ AP or HE shells. Did they succeed? I don't know. In the Shock Force setting there are a host of units with anti-tank capabilities. So it made more sense in the modern environment to drop that feature.

Jeeps/Halftracks with weapons?
Childress replied to Javaslinger's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
My God, you're right! That's a serious bug. I did a quick test; half the squad bled through he bocage, the other half entered through a gap. This one's up there there with the Rhino tanks knocking down the hedgerows in reverse. -
Jeeps/Halftracks with weapons?

Inquiring minds want to know: Can a Jeep w/MMG stick its nose up against a bocage tile and fire? Despite the fact the the mg is recessed in the truck bed? -
Paratrooper or Fallschimjager usage
Childress replied to togi's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
The Storch, carrying SS commandos, was used to rescue Mussolini from an Italian ski resort in 1943. The operation, an astonishing feat, constituted the final clip in the Nazi highlight reel. -
Advantage: Attacker?
Childress replied to ClarkWGriswold's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Maybe, but that would be requesting Battlefront to go back to a source of controversy that they don't want to revisit: fine tuning the values of units as to make them 'fair' in the shark infested pool of QB cherry picking. It represents a drain on resources which ends up making nobody happy. -
It's kind of surprising that Battlefront is doing another East Front game at all given the alleged disappointing sales of CMBB. It seems that the bulk of their customer base- the quiet majority?- demands the presence of Americans.

Advantage: Attacker?

Or the engine is still relatively young and the ideal attacker/defender ratio will only emerge after several thousand games H2H have been played and dissected. -
Yes, but you're BFC and held to higher standards. Or haven't you realized that yet?

KIA / WIA result screen error ?
Childress replied to noob's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Maybe, if this is really an issue, it can be resolved by a simple redistribution of stats on the end game screen. -
KIA / WIA result screen error ?
Childress replied to noob's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I thought about that, too. The ratio seems reversed. Point of the Spear phenomenon?. -
I've seen bazooka/shreck teams endowed with Cover Arcs let infantry pass then open up on following armor. Maybe the existing implementation of CAs is more intelligent than we give BFC credit for.

Hey, I can do this too!

Too bad. I guess they won't be getting my 35US.

Yeah, they look like spider monkeys. But the fault cannot be laid at the feet of the designer. One doubts realistic rope climbing is high on the enhancement list.

Try Barns. No windows necessary.

I disagree, Nazis uniforms represented, imo, the dernier cri in battlefield couture- really snazzy. I'm now looking at the photo of my great-great grandad, his moon face glowing with righteous ardor, hanging on the wall resplendent in his confederate grays- complete with watch fob. This pic, the original print, was taken in Tennessee in 1862. Honestly his threads looks a lot cooler than those Union blue smouits. I'd attach a jpg but it's probably fragile and I'm afraid to detach it from the frame. Theory: the side with the niftiest uniforms inevitably loses.

I fear, wrigley, that if you were indeed born in 1937 that probably moots the option of a real time battle.

WEGO vs RT-Is it age related?
Childress replied to Stingray's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
RT will come into its glory when- and if- BFC enables multi-multiplayer. Question is whether it's possible to organize 4+ players over the net in this very niche hobby. CM isn't World of Tanks or Call of Duty. -

And Otto Carius today at his pharmacy in in Herschweiler-Pettersheim where he still works. It's named (defiantly?) the Tiger Apotheke. He's 89. -
Land mines... a rant.
Childress replied to Dellinger327's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
TIP 4: If you absolutely must traverse a suspected mine field make sure your men and/or vehicles advance using Hunt. That way if the guy in front ignites the dude following will stop in his tracks. -
Finding it too hard (again)
Childress replied to ShatterBone's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Bottom line, I find: the game rewards patience and chastises impatience. It comes down to suppression and scouting. -
Disappointing tank performance
Childress replied to GreenAsJade's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
A but O/T question: Which kind of round, HE or AT, do tanks in CMBN have loaded by default? -
Disappointing tank performance
Childress replied to GreenAsJade's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Or the claustrophobic nature of the Normandy countryside, the unusually close engagement ranges, went a long way in nullifying German armor & main gun advantages. The Shermans had a fighting chance at 600m.
