Combat Mission ww2 Africa?
Childress replied to Destraex1's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
The turnaround would be faster if Battlefront stopped fretting about getting the interiors right. -
No WAY! One shot, two kills!

I meant the SS in Argie's link. The grass was blurry and undefined. Very low rez. Also, the gridded terrain didn't extend out from the selected unit. It reminds me of the quality drop off going from my desktop to the laptop when a large map is loaded. But it could indeed be the size of the file. -

The first thing that came to mind when I linked to your screen shots was: get a new graphics card, man! -

You may be right. War in the East, Grigsby's 2nd magnum opus, shows 108,000 posts in the Matrix forum. -
Combat Mission ww2 Africa?

Well put. Even Market Garden may prove a tougher sale because, Like North Africa, it's mostly about the British. -
Combat Mission ww2 Africa?

It didn't sell that well. And the CM1 engine was getting rickety. -
Spread out landsers, we know the British have a least three 3" mortars!
-
+1. But remember, this enhancement would seriously skew existing scenarios in favor of the defender. As would, in a similar way, increasing the lethality of MGs.

BUILDINGS: Troops in CMx1 had the sense to skedaddle when a structure they were occupying was on the verge of collapsing. Stars on the map indicated when this was imminent. Haven't observed this in CM2. Also, a building's defensive properties have been left somewhat vague and discovering them requires trial and error. For example, the fact that a Barn is 360 degrees porous to fire wasn't mentioned in the manual.
-
FOG: Apparently the kind of pea soup fog you seek wasn't common in the Normandy area. Hence the omission. PRISONERS: I found the routine of escorting prisoners off the map edge in CMx1 cheesy in the extreme. And a nuisance. So I prefer it the way it is now. Troops surrendering in larger groups would be great but the implementation likely poses hellish programming challenges. FOG OF WAR: Totally agree. The player is given excessive information when clicking on enemy icons. An enemy mortar ammo bearer, eh, thanks! And from section three, to boot. Cool! They really need to address this. Mis-identification was neat in CMx1 though a bit overdone, imo. And the placement holders were butt ugly. ANTI AIRCRAFT ARTY: Sure, why not. What I miss more than anything are the airplane shadows. Essential fluff! And one more SOUND CONTACTS: Are they in CMBN? Not sure.

Market Garden...Was success ever a possibility
Childress replied to Dave85's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Good points, Rankorian. As Stalin remarked, quantity has quality all its own. -
Nah, the Big Announcement will be that, at last, the Lynx WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE in quick battles. Be still my heart! Seriously, the Russian connection seems the most plausible given BFC cozy rapport with the Russian development team that produced CMA. It appears the best selling titles are those which: 1- Include Americans 2- Feature dazzling and potent vehicles 3- Enlist the Waffen SS 4- Showpiece two mighty nations in an apocalyptic war of survival. Early WW2 misses 1,2 and 4 N. Africa misses 2 and 3 (yes, the Tiger made an appearance towards the end) The War in the East covers 3 of the 4. So, that's the one.

Market Garden...Was success ever a possibility

You're right, a decided breach of etiquette. I've alerted the forum administrator. Now, if only the poster had used Fritz, the Krauts, or even- for you French speakers- 'Les Boches'. -
Yep, mass surrenders, done properly, would impose situational complexities and entail mind blowing programming challenges. BFC may tweak the logic here or there but a handful of POWS at a time may be the best we can get. A game that would really benefit from surrenders en masse would be Shock Force with its first versus third world setting. Those Arabs have been known to surrender in impressive numbers.

Haha, good one, sb. Although, in my case, it's had the exact opposite effect. -

Someone shoot me please. The fact that this thread has gone on for seven pages makes one doubt the existence of Providence. -

The exaggerated motion you speak off may be necessary given the animation scale. If it were more subtle, or a strict representation of actual tanks in motion, the player wouldn't notice. Personally, I don't really care. -
One of the major issues for the Americans in the Huertgen mess was, I seem to recall, the inability to properly deploy mortars in the heavily forested terrain. That branch was basically nerfed. Does CM2 reflect this inhibition? I don't recall.
-
If you break up their movement by plotting waypoints on the way to their destination they will reform and spread out. Be resourceful!
-
No, you'd want a strategic sim for that. Brace yourselves. Upcoming modules will feature Allied troops with bloody noses; Market Garden, Huertgen Forest, even the first week of the Bulge. Of course, Nazi-loving trolls like ***** or ********** will be in heaven. Or should that be Himmel?
