CW gets a 96% at Armchair General
Childress replied to Childress's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
If you revisit the relevant posts that got Dorosh banned you'll see it was the other way around; pretty shocking stuff. It was he who got the boot. The guy has done everything short of sky writing to denounce BFC while simultaneously producing mods and scenarios (well received) for CMBN + CW. He should donate his brain to science. -
On a cheerier note: http://www.armchairgeneral.com/combat-mission-commonwealth-forces-pc-game-review.htm Take that, CPT Mike!

Wise observation. -
That'd be Jeb Stuart, Confederate cavalry commander extraordinaire. A nickname calculated to mollify the Southern fraction of the U.S. Army.

Battle Academy? With the squares and abstracted ranges? That's like switching from Imperial Tokay to Bud Light. -
Why I hate action spots
Childress replied to John Kettler's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Etc. Frustrating. And strange. But we're not playing the same game. As far as action spots are concerned: even if the placement is inexact, the pixel guys seem to manage to line up in a logical manner. And most remaining ambiguities can be cured with the Face command. Also, vehicular movement resulted in cluster-***** far more often in CM1 than CM2. In my experience. -
The next Combat Mission?

Also, in the Arab world, Syria and Iraq are/were viewed as secular states. If the game had centered on an invasion of sacred ground, say Saudi Arabia, that might have caused an uproar. -

By 'personalities' who exactly do you mean, Michael? -

The next Combat Mission?
Childress replied to InsanePerson42's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
C'mon, Burke. The right phrasing in the title would salve the old wounds and compensate for the presence of, er, you know who. Like, CM: the Wars of Unjust Aggression financed by the Great Satan on behalf of their Zionist Lapdogs! A bit of a mouthful, sure, but it works for me. -
The next Combat Mission?

The 'outrage brigade'. Ha ha, very fitting. As a player I'd much prefer the Arab-Israeli concept to Viet-Nam or the Pacific theater which, in addition to lacking sexy vehicles, would entail grinding through triple canopy jungles. Or beach invasions against entrenched and invisible foes. Fun? Not. WWII is bit too distant in time to generate anger from easily offended minorities ( I can cite a major one). The A/I Wars offer a lot of pluses; Battlefront could go historical or contemporary- or both- with countless modules. Lots of tanks, fascinating doctrinal differences. On the other hand, life for the BFC crew would be a lot more pleasant without at Fatwa hanging over their heads. -
The next Combat Mission?
Childress replied to InsanePerson42's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Perhaps. But a retro NATO VS Warsaw pact game set in the 70s or 80s seems unlikely if Battlefront counts on building their relationship with Russian partners, like Snowball. Too much corporate controversy. Much the same way an Arab-Israeli setting, in many ways a perfect fit for the CM engine, would generate unwanted heat. -
I'd settle for simply lowering the opacity. Setup zones, as well.

The Battle for Hamel Vallee - an AAR
Childress replied to sburke's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
It's been said that an 'Interesting Battle' results when Intelligence screws up. Reminiscent of the ancient Chinese curse, 'may you live in interesting times.' In CMBN we're playing mistakes. -
Super crews - I thought that got fixed.
Childress replied to womble's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I've witnessed this phenomenon once for sure, maybe twice, in all my games. When it does occur it certainly rivets one's attention. Usually my crews go hightailing towards the rear or remain whimpering on the ground. Should tankers *never* emerge from their rides in an retributive mood? -
Combat Mission ww2 Africa?
Childress replied to Destraex1's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Not sure I agree. The proper tactic, given some variables like force superiority, may to pepper a building from which fire has been observed or that is suspected of sheltering the enemy, with one's own, concentrated small arms fire. Current visual certification not constituting a sine qua non. -

What do you need? Stairways, furniture, chandeliers, and water closets? Fine for a first person shooter but CMBN is a squad/platoon game. Interiors are just chrome at that level. And we'd get the next module in 2015. BFC spends enough development time fine tuning the interior of tanks. They've already promised to 'do more' with buildings in the future. MG and Arnhem will stress test house to house fighting to a greater extant than what we have so far. We might be pleasantly surprised. -
The Battle for Hamel Vallee - an AAR
Childress replied to sburke's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Yep, one of the little things that merits, imo, a tweak by BFC. Even when one's aware of how it functions it's still ,in the heat of battle, all too easy to get confounded and mess it up. Because it's counter-intuitive. -

The banzai charge! A tactic to which no sensible Japanese commander would resort in CMPT. -
Kampfgruppe Engel, The king Tiger Mission

Battlefront doesn't tend to release mini-patches. Evidently company policy. Hang in there. -
No WAY! One shot, two kills!
Childress replied to ww2steel's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
It seems the vehicular cluster-**** phenomenon, though not entirely eliminated, has much abated since the days of CM1. -
Kampfgruppe Engel, The king Tiger Mission

It's probably already fixed. And will be included in the next patch. Most scenarios are unaffected. People need to get a grip on this subject. -
