  1. The 2pdr on these tanks only had AP rounds. Any reason HE was not produced/distributed?
  2. http://www.militaryhistoryonline.com/wwii/articles/hedgerowbreakout.aspx By late June, many units throughout the First Army had developed a variety of means to breach the hedgerows. The 83rd Infantry Division in VII Corps used two 25-pound explosive charges. Engineers packed the explosives in a sandbag, buried them by hand two feet into the hedgerow embankment, and then tamped the hole full of dirt to increase the effectiveness of the charge. Other units copied the techniques developed in the 29th Division. The 703rd Tank Battalion, attached to the 4th Infantry Division in VII Corps, adopted the 747th's hedgerow busting techniques and found them highly successful. In VIII Corps, the 79th Infantry Division also developed another type of hedgerow cutter for use on its Sherman tanks.[13] Soldiers of the 2nd Armored Division's 102nd Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron invented the hedgerow device that gained the widest publicity. During a discussion between some of the 102nd's officers and enlisted men, someone suggested that they get saw teeth, put them on their tanks, and cut through the hedgerows. Many of the troops laughed at the suggestion, but Sergeant Curtis G. Culin took the idea to heart. Culin designed and supervised the construction of a hedgerow-cutting device made from scrap iron pulled from a German roadblock. Testing showed that the device allowed a Sherman to cut easily through the hedgerows. Because the hedgerow cutter's blades made a tank resemble a large pachyderm with tusks, troops called the device a rhinoceros, and Sherman’s equipped with Culin's invention became known as rhino tanks. [14] Culin's device soon got the attention of the chain of command within 2nd Armored Division and V Corps. On July 14th, General Bradley attended a demonstration of Culin's hedgerow cutter. Bradley watched as Sherman’s mounting the hedgerow device plowed through the hedgerows "as though they were pasteboard, throwing the bushes and brush into the air." Very impressed by the demonstration, Bradley ordered the chief of the First Army's Ordnance Section to supervise the construction and installation of as many of the hedgerow cutters as possible. The First Army Ordnance assembled welders and welding equipment within the beachhead and from the rear areas in England to assist with the project. Welding teams used scrap metal from German beach obstacles to construct most of the hedgerow cutters. In a remarkable effort from 14th to the 25th of July, the First Army Ordnance Section produced over 500 hedgerow cutters and distributed them to subordinate commands for installation. By late July sixty percent of the First Army's Sherman’s mounted the hedgerow-cutting devices. Though the most famous of the hedgerow-reducing devices, Culin's rhinoceros was only one of many such contrivances invented and employed throughout the First Army. [15]
  3. I'd like a windows explorer folder/directory system to access, save, and sort scenarios. Put them in folders named Really Good Battles, These Scenarios Suck, or Newly Saved-Use for Blind PBEM.
  4. Take a look at E-bay for a good estimate of value. But in general, every collectible there is way down with the economy being so bad. Is the B1 game for the Commodore? Could be worth $1000 either that or just toss it in the trash.
  5. Stalingrad Pack at Boots and Tracks http://www.bootsandtracks.com/index.php
  6. Shouldn't matter much. Its effects should even out with both sides using the same ball.
  7. It went back to plain white on its own. "How to I changing Google background to plain white?" was the hottest search on the net for a few hours.
  8. Anyone figure out how to make the google page plain again?
  9. Set in??? Been there all along is more accurate.
  10. Also, I don't think he was a General until after WWII.
  11. My old Panzer Blitz buddy, from the late 70's, and I were getting together for a day CM1 in a few weeks. I have 2 computer machines side by side and will give it a shot then. Will let you know. I'll try it using the rollers on my chair before that to see how it works.
  12. Sorry for the interrupt people. I played a little EOS when the demo first came out. But lack of PBEM was a real limitation for me. So now I see you talking/playing PBEM and my interest returns. I just went to the FAQ and it still said no PBEM. So what is it PBEM or NO PBEM? Is it a true PBEM or a hybridized PBEM/TCP interface? Can ya'll post a breif on the GUI mechanics for PBEM? Thanks.
  13. If one Israeli soldier when to afghanistan then all muslim nations would immediatly move towards total jihad at Israel. Israel showed great restraint in not attacking Iraq during Gulf War 1 when Saddam was tossing Scuds at Israel. Why did Saddam do that Israel was not involved in Gulf War 1. But I think the question is why does Iran hate Israel so much they are 2 nations away?
  14. Yes!! Yes YES Maximum eye candy. Hell Yeah! A 2000 lb bomb spreading lotsa little pixels all over the battle field. Perhaps a few limb amputations too. Yeah! That's what I'm talking about. Also, after buddy aid must show bandaids on the troops.
  15. Funny how the pro-abortionists are also the anti-death penalty folks. Kill the innocent and let the guilty live.
  16. The way it can raise and lower its shocks it can go hull down anywhere. Either that or it will fit right in at a low rider rally in East LA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGkE5g7_jAg&feature=related
  17. UDC, So if you don't let the computer pick the troops and you don't use a random map... Hmmm...this sounds like a scenario to me.
  18. I once put dozens of Russian ATR bullets on a IV while he was in a long range duel with a T-34. Three or five turns of nonstop plinking. The T-34 eventually got it and the ATR crew was KIA too. I bet IV crew was annoyed by all the damn noise while it was going on.
  19. Forget QBs, there are 1500 Scenarios available for CMBB.
  20. Sweeeeet. The museum is within an hour drive for me.
  21. Will there be sounds of running water around streams and creeks? Waves crashing on the beaches?
  22. I remember seeing a satellite photo, in the paper (San Diego Union), of what was thought to be a nuke blast off the coast of SA back in that time frame. Perfectly round cloud (top down view) over an otherwise cloudless IO. They didn't have a side view, but I bet that one was mushroom shaped.
  23. Lucky you. My local library sells used books too. I was getting a few WWII books every couple of weeks. $1 to $5. Then the local paper does a story on a 12 year old that is reading/buying WWII books. I think they now hide them in the back room until this kid comes in. There hasn't been a WWII book in there for the last 6 months.
