  1. I think burning buildings would be the easiest thing to add, water will probably be the hardest considering they've said they don't want to make static tiles but rather be able to create visually flowing water courses.
  2. Can anyone give me some advice, I'm planning on upgrading to a bigger HDD and wanted to know if I can mirror the old C: onto the new as to avoid re-installing and configuring all my software. The other issue is will XP boot up ok from the new drive or do I have to call 'Steve' in India again and get interogated about my actions. 'Steve' gave me a new activation code when I installed it last time onto a new pc although I believe it's an OEM license. If I can get away with mirroring the onto the new drive can someone recommend some programs that would do this. Thanks for any advice.
  3. Anecdotal evidence from myself suggests this might be the case, in CMx1 you could sneak a tank hunter team through the woods around the flank of an enemy tank and engage at optimal range. In CMSF try flanking a tank through thick tree cover and you'll usually get shot up before your destination. On another note, spotting an enemy squad in a building seems too accurate, I've had troops in a building that are able to acurately tell how many guys are in the building 100m away and exactly what weapons they are carrying. I play on veteran level so maybe this gets more realistic on elite.
  4. One thing we have to remember is that many more tigers were reported to be engaged by Allied tank crews than actually existed in the Normandy theatre (Tiger Phobia). In CMx1 there was an option to label your scenario as historical or fictional, maybe this can be brought back into the CMx2 WW2 games. I'm not going to fire up the editor to check but as I remember it there is no such choice to make at the moment.
  5. I remember finding a sound recording of a bbc reporter in Holland during the Market Garden para drops. It was a really amazing bit of audio, you could hear the German flak firing nearby as the reporter described the scene. Unfortunately I can no longer locate it. It's not the Edward R Murrow one where he is in the C-47 as the troops go out the door, this reporter was on the ground.
  6. The only thing I don't really like about this game is the lack of opportunities for free play GTA style. If I don't want to go on a quest and just want to go around blowing raiders heads off it's not something that you can easily do. Once you kill a group of raiders they don't seem to respawn, well not as far as I can see anyway. This just leads to empty wasteland which while realistic for a post-holocaust landscape is a little dull. Otherwise loving it.
  7. How do you get those front on views?
  8. Whew .... I thought that horse joke was going somewhere else for a second.
  9. Wow the first screenshots from CM: Normandy!
  10. I'm playing a Red vs Red PBEM battle (Citadel) at the moment and I've noticed that every turn the knocked out BMP's brew up. In the last turn one of my BMP's that had exploded every turn since it was knocked out ten turns ago exploded three times! All the other knocked out BMP's on the field exploded at least once as well and not for the first time. Is this realistic? If the ammo cache is in seperate compartments I guess it is, but I don't know enough about the structure of the vehicle. Brewing up every turn seems a bit excessive, PBEM bug maybe? Any thoughts?
  11. Thanks for everyones help, it turns out I needed to upgrade to SP3 to get it to work.
  12. It launches the nvidia setup process and says drivers installed but when I reboot I get the same problem. I used a driver cleaner program as well as uninstalling the old 169 driver but now I can't even roll back to that because the 169 driver setup will also only install to a win2k folder which makes me think I'm somehow lost in Windows 2000 land.
  13. Can any of you guys offer advice? I've downloaded the latest drivers for my GF7900GS but when I install and reboot I only get the options of 4 colours and 800x600 resolution, and no nvidia control panel. I've tried to install every way I can think of including the advice in the readme.txt. The files seem to want to install to an \nvidia\win2k folder but I'm running xp with full admin rights. I've downloaded them several times to make sure I had the right settings for my OS and card but don't know why this is happening. Anyone.
  14. John, My question isn't so much about the flight dynamics of the TOW but rather how it is relevent to the game. Is the motor exhaust a graphic to aid the player in visualising the flight of the missile or does it actually effect the effectiveness. If it is only a visual thing I'm a little underwhelmed by the whole argument, if it's changing the missiles behaviour then it's an issue.
  15. Gordon's russian vehicle mod has been available at cmmods for some time, even if your not playing a supposed NATO scenario the realism of the textures is convincing enough to play them as the Syrians.
  16. There is an offline license ability, when you try to license it will create a file that you can take to any PC with an internet connection and send it to BFC to get a license. (I think)
  17. Is this serious, as I understand it the TOW missiles motors are active through the whole course of the flight to it's ordained end, who actually stops the game and zooms in to see if the exhaust is coming from the correct position on the missile? Is it just me or am I missing something. "I had friends who looked fabulous in the whole getup of the time, most of us were profoundly relieved when normal pants returned." What!! next your going to tell me my platform shoes are not in fashion. pffhhhtt
  18. Marines has it's own license number that you get in the confirmation email, you can always go back and look it up with your login at sales but it's a good idea to write it down somewhere. The same goes for the original CMSF, if you haven't written it down and you bought before October last year you have lost it I think, so you'd have to apply to sales for a new license number.
  19. This is my first public scenario, it's called 'Evening Assault' and is available at cmmods.com I really want to hear any feedback, whether it's too hard or too easy. It's not a meat grinder but rewards the player for cautious infantry tactics. You don't need the Marines module to play it but it was designed with 1.10 in mind. Don't be too harsh, constructive comments only.
  20. This raises the tricky question that has been discussed without conclussion before, at what stage do BFC draw the line with upgrading CMSF equipment. If older vehicles/aircraft/weapons aren't replaced as new equipment comes into service the game suddenly looks dated. This is not a problem with WW2 titles but the modern theatre is obviously different. You can always tell yourself that the game is based on a hypothetical war in the 2008-09 timeframe but I don't think this will stop people complaining when they can't use the latest gear on the battlefield.
  21. I'm talking about the stats screen at the end of the mission.
  22. I've noticed since 1.10 that KIA outnumber WIA in most scenarios where the opposite used to be true. Just anecdotal evidence, but it was something that I've noticed.
  23. You have to become a member of Scipio's site to download it.
  24. Yet another must have from Scipio. Please don't die under a bus or anything we need you for all the future CMx2 titles.
  25. Yeah, minor victory first time round despite a total defeat in Debouch to Disaster because I had such a small weakened force to play with. I'm playing all the other scenarios now before I go back for another go.
