Still beer and pretzels
Rolend replied to aesopo's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
I think although Rambo was a little over zealous defending SC 2 the personal attack, on the level you just made Aesopo, was uncalled for and I think a very childish reaction. SC 2 is a very good game, is it the be all and end all of WWII turn based games? Nope in fact I prefer tactical level turn based WWII games and have not been very happy with any since Panzer General series, however I think SC 2 is a VERY sound game and more importantly FUN to play. Also I give it the highest grade for any game I have played when it comes to support. The designer is on here all the time listening to us and discussing with us the game, and that counts for 100 times any game with tons of micromanagement. -
Is researching Intel useful?

Yep for me as an Axies player it is much more important to get those 5 chits into Spain VERY early and leaves int on the short end of the stick. I do agree that as Axies getting IW to 3 as quick as possible really helps in Russia for either defense or offense. -
When I play Axies I like diplo Spain as soon as I can as not only are the MPP good but it helps a lot with N Africa. Also if you don't take England the Spanish navy can help interecept any D-Day troops and its AF and some of its troops can be used to defend France. If you get Spain early enough it also keeps the US from hitting Vichy Algeria. The only reason I take England first, I do it about 50% of the time, is that if you leave England for last it is real tedious to take, notice how I did not say hard, just a pain with all those US AF and Bombers and land forces packed into England. I almost never bother with Norway, Swedan or Greece. Instead I prefer to push up through Iraq and take the Russian oil fields then hang on tell the main push into Russia arrives in the Stalingrad area. I have tried to Diplo Turkey several times but have only managed to bring them in before Russia falls once so I think that is a bit of a wast. Normally I get Russia to fall late 43 early 44 but late 44 if I spend the time to take England first.

Missed Chance with Oil
Rolend replied to Major Spinello's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
Well you guys know my view on historical aspects and how I prefer the game to be. However if we are going to start making what I consider major changes to the basic game engine then I would much prefer those changes be geared towards combat and not supply. For me supply is important to simulate as it played a major part in the war but I like it abstract and the more time, even if a little, I have to put into it's managment the less enjoyable the game will become for me. Put that effort into improved navy ops and land warfare and make it a better war game, don't waste it on the suplly side to make it a better resource managment game. -
Shore bombardment is too strong.

Yep lower carrier damage when attacking and drop the damage surafce ships take when attacing units not in a city or fortress. I do think the weakist part of this game is the navy warfare, form subs and convoys to surface fleet action. It either needs to be refind or made abstract but as it is now it is very non historical. -
Lars vs Stalin AAR - v 1.01
Rolend replied to Lars's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
Lars yea I get lazy too with ships and 'risk it' I sure wish the movement system was refind so that we could use some of the AP's switch to other tasks then come back to that unit if it still had AP's left. -

Yep Sealion is still too easy to do and there is a good thread about that. The one good reason for doing Sealion against the AI is then you don't have to face an invasion of England in 44 or 45 with the island pakced with American and English air and ground units. By taking England in 40 or 41 then all you have to do is focus on Moscow and game over, you never even have to worry about the Americans. Of course this is dealing with the AI, against a human player you never know what you will get -
How do I declare War?
Rolend replied to Pvt Hudson's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
No way I like to play a bit before I RTFM that way I know what is important Besides it takes all the fun out of the adventure LOL -
You are right and even though FDR was one of the most loved US presidents the America people did NOT like lend lease or anything to do with the war in Europe. We were very isolationist at the time and it is another reason I have to dislike FDR. What I find funny is how America gets bashed on the one hand for not doing enough to get into the war earlier and helping the poor down trodden people of Europe and then when we do take action like in Iraq we are accused of being war mongering Imperialist. I guess any old reason to hate America is good enough. There now you managed to drag me into a political discussion, crap guys lets try and stick to the game
-
I was going to make a comment about politics but decided not to get drug into it even though I would like to. Please guys can we stick to the game, all this kind of crap does is devide the comunity and then we start taking sides about game issues based on personal issues rather then game issues. PLEASE lets leave the politics for other forums and talk about this fun game SC 2 and how we can all make it better. .... Gets off soap box and can't believe he said "can't we all just get along" sigggghhhhh I am getting old.

Yes supply is a problem but I only do it to take the oil fields and deny that resouce to the Russians, then I hang on tell my southern push reaches Stalingrad then those forces can help there. As for Russia being to active at that point it is because you invaded everything that moved, or didn't move for that mater Leaving England, Norway and Spain out of the mix should allow you not to have to worry about Russia coming in tell mid 41, by then you should be setup to push on the Cacususes and able to easly fend off a Russian attack. In fact if you are ready for the Russians it makes it much easier as you will destroy them very easly when they do declare war and make a futile attack. EDIT ADDED: By the way this won't work well against a human player, you can count on what the AI will do you never know about a human -
However without tanks, air power and modern artillery their could be no Blitzkrieg. WWI showed that. Blitzkrieg was more then just lighting strikes, it was a tatic that used combined arms that not only made direct assults on front line troops but rear area infrastructure. It was an entirly new tatical approach to warfare using entirly new weapons of war.

Operation Sealion Variant
Rolend replied to General Mayhem's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
Yea I kind of like the simple way but all these ideas are good, I am not much for making the 'detail' work so I won't argue about it. I will say this about supply, it was a huge problem for the Allies. The Germans left every port totally destoryed and the biggest single problem for the Allies was keeping enough supplys. I think the only reason the Allie push to Germany stalled in late 44 was due to the lack of gas and other supplys, the Germans were in total chaos but were able to regroup when the Allies halted to let supply catch up. I don't think any amount of amphib tech should effect supply. -
What settings do you use?
Rolend replied to william bowen's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
Blashy I understand the scale but just beacuse a square is a certain size does not mean the enemy next to it is way far away. I just think it is gamey to allow a unit under the eyes of the emeny, take a week to load up all its gear, people and supplies all the while the enemy units wave goodby and wish them a safe trip. At least make it like landings, if you Operate out of or into a square with an emeny then that unit should risk taking damage. -
Blashy I am not sure he had a real goal, bottem line he was a nut case. I am not so sure he could of gotten away with just stopping at Poland. I think even had he the French and English might not of been so quick to call for peace. Now maybe had someone killed Hitler after Poland they could of worked something out but after Poland Hitler was already very well hated.

When does it end?
Rolend replied to Titan's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
I think it calls a draw in 47 or something like that. I have never got past 45 without winning or losing. -
Blashy I think the only way for Hitler to get out of the war with his skin is if he could of some how forced a peace by late 41 MAYBE summer of 42, but by then the forces coming to bear on Germany were so great that the Germans were doomed no matter what decisons were made. They just didn't have the man power or resources to counter all the Allies. Close only counts in Horse Shoes and high explosives.

TaoJah once you take N Africa why not Syria, Iraq and Iran as well and invade Russia with some of your troops through Iran to take away the Russian oil fields?
