  1. I tend to agree with Lars on this one, the russians handled the winter very well and as far as I know they are human How they did it was they understood the effects and knew how to stay warm and keep their equipment running. The one weather effect that mucked up everyone was the real bad mud in the spring and fall each year, even though we focus in on that problem in Russia because they had few paved roads, it could effect any battle in Europe as once you got off the main roads tanks and turcks had trouble moving rather they were in Russia or France.
  2. Hey THANKS Stalin that was a nice artical. Those pictures just seem so strange, after seeing tons of pics from WWII Shermans with it's small gun it just seems so 'strange' to see that huge gun. I have this picture in my head of the turret turning the wrong way and the entire Sherman falling over on its side LOL.
  3. When ever I play Allies vs AI I never even bother with Sicily. It is much eaiser to just take the southern most city and move on Rome. I know not historical at all but to be honest in it's current state there just does not seem to be a valid reason to take Sicily unless you are trying to recreate history.
  4. Yea if you take Poland in turn 2 then just move your troops, rather then operate them, through the winter for a big push into France in early 40. This works better for me fora couple of reasons, one was mentioned and that is to put 5 chits into Spain as early as you can, I had Spain come over to the Axies in one game at about the same time as France fell. The other reason not to rush France is it keeps US and Russian readness from going up earlyer thus giving them less MPP's in the long run. The less MPP for Russia before the start of the Russian push is a good thing. I am begining to think that the Axies should hold off on all minors untill the attack on Russia, then clean up on the minnors, which will give morale boosts against the Russians which can make for a good early push into Russia.
  5. Well there has awalys been a problem with turn based strat games in terms of who goes first has the advantage. There have been various ways to over come this problem like the use of reactive fire, this is where when on your turn you move your unit next to an enemy unit, the enemy unit gets a 'free' fire at your unit then your unit finishes its move. I have always like this aporach and maybe we can see it in SC 3 It makes defense a bit easier and that is the way it should be. Anyway back to the point of weather, I have to totaly agree with the point weedd(by the way is it Weedd or Vveedd?) made in that the advantage of a clear mud clear turn sequence is MUCH larger then knowing the weather your oppent will have. It would be nice to at least have the option to set it to same weather if that is how we prefer to play.
  6. Are you kidding me!!! I checked out all 91, no wonder Euros are so crazy about World Cup. I have suddenly become a huge World Cup fan. Where is the next one going to be held, I think a road trip is in order? Signed: Dirty Old Man
  7. UMMMMMMMMMMM was the question would I rather be watching her or the World Cup? What you think I am crazyyyyyy? Of course HER!
  8. Hummm and the icon of the modern Democratic party JFK, wasn't the family fortune come by rum running and strong ties to the mob??? I am out of this thread, when we start comparing Bush to Hitler it has reached the point of no return.
  9. Ok bad example sorry but you both avoided my main thought and Rambo it is NOT about taking sides. There is NO disagreement about how bad and evil the humans that took part in or even allowed it, who happened to be Germans, were. It is how you try and let the rest of the human race 'off the hook' because after all they were Germans and somehow us Americans are immune to such behavior. That way of thinking is not only wrong but dangerous.
  10. SM in there current condition rockets are NOT V1 or V2 because they could not even hit London, so then they are artty and every time the subject about artty comes up we are told that one of the most important factors in WWII was being treated in an abstract fasion. Ok I can go along with that but then why have rockets in the form of artty???? I mean either make rockets work like V1 and V2's, or take artty out of the abstract and give us an artty tech, or take rockets as they stand now out of the game.
  11. Yea WW was ok but you have to look at what he did not what he thought. TR got almost everything inacted that he wanted on the other hand WW failed at most. He wanted us to stay out of WWI, and for VERY good reasons but failed, heck the League of Nations, his biggest dream was not even ratified by the US congress. I think he was a great man but a failure as a US president.
  12. Or Rambo take a tour to Wounded Knee. Yea the scale is a lot differant but it amounts to the same thing. I think all he is trying to say is we are all human and the Germans who commited those crimes were after all part of us all. If you think that somehow Americans are special and we don't have to worry about that kind of thing happening here in the US then you are just inviting it. If you forget history you are doomed to repeat it.
  13. Sure maybe a little but when you are face down eating dirt at the bottem of your foxhole with bullets flying over your head I am not sure how much more willing you are going to be to jump out of that fox hole and charge the enemy just because the latest news you heard was that Moscow some 2000 miles away was taken by one of your allies. How about the guy shooting the bullets at you, he sees you jumping out of your hole, is he just going to throw down his gun and run away just because he had just heard the same news? Moral can be effected by 'world events' but I think local events are much more important, have you been feed today, have you recieved any mail from home latly and how will you ever get your best buddies splattered brains out of your head are a LOT more moral changing then anything that is going on in a place you don't care about in the first place thousands of miles away.
  14. Well as history has shown great leaders as well as cultural changing events can come out of nowhere and seem to come when we need it the most, so don't give up hope, so far man has seemed to be lucky, I mean it is lucky we arn't already all 'glowing in the dark.' Just maybe someone is watching over us? Yea the loss of Bobby hurt bad and I have always liked Teddy, I think he was one of the best Pres. the US has ever had. Hummmm it is scary to think that DD and I might think more alike then I at first thought LOL.
  15. LMAOOOOOO You know in all good humor there is a ring of truth, after the 'fall of the wall' and Germany became one again, I thought now we have to keep an eye on them again
  16. That was the impression I got was that rockets in SC 2 were not the artty type but V1 V2 types. If that is the case then their use in SC 2 is totally wrong. I believe that a few V1's were used against troops but they were too few and to inacurte to do much good. There use needs to be restricted to city/port/resource targets only, there damage needs to be very small, unless you have the rocket tech at a high level. I would have no problem with taking them totaly out of the game, nice idea but does not really fit well into the game.
  17. Yea and I don't think the Finns were all that found of Germany. It just so happens that Russia had invaded Finland before the German/Russian war started, I think it was what 38 or 39? Anyway the only real reason Finaland was allied with Germany is they just happen to have the same enemy, certenly not out of any foundness for each other. EDIT ADDED: We need to sticky this thread, I think this is the only time that I have seen Rambo, Blashy and Rolend in agreement
  18. Also Willy do you have the 1.02 patch loaded? With out the patch America and England will almost never invade. With 1.02 they will invade all be it very poorly.
  19. Yes Cary very true even the Americans had a form of rocket artillery. Once again I question why we have a rocket tech to begin with. I mean artillery is an abstract item in this game, then why make rockets like artillery, if it is not artillery then it must be V1 V2 type rockets which is NOT how they work in SC 2. Frankly I am confused and a word from HC on this topic would be nice.
  20. Well I do believe we are in the midst of a culutral revolution. Some of us want to become isolationist again (I am in that camp) some of us want us to 'rule' the world (I think Rambo falls into that camp) and some of us want to become globalist (I think DD tends to lean this way) If you Euros are having a hard time figuring us out just think what it looks like to us from the inside Who knows how it will turn out the battle goes back and forth on a daily basis and most likly will take years if not decades to iron out PS forgive me if I have put any of you in the wrong camp and that goes for me asking myself what camp I am in, see I can't even figure which way to go so you expect outsiders to know LOL.
  21. LOL this was way tooooo funny. Gee I hope we pick that up in the US that way my AWFULL spelling can be hidden By the way Rambo I lived in Germany for almost 4 years and used the metric system. I have to say it is a LOT better then the crappy 12 inchs in a foot, 3 feet in a yard crap we use. See the metirc system is all in tens and it is much easier to multiply or devide by 10 then say 3 or 12
  22. Yes Blashy there were always LARGE number of Americans in the 'chain.' that is why some US divisons took like %200 casulities durning the war but for the most part they were fully strength units and why they could be listed as 'being in the line' for the entire time from Normandy to VE day. The reinforcement system the US used I think was very effective. Normally when a German division got beat up they would pull it out of the line, reinforce it, reequip it and then send it back into the line. This to me would represent the 'replace a destroyed unit at lower cost and quicker' system that is in the game, very well. However America tended to do it differently, they would feed those reinforcemets directly to the divisions when needed, this type of system ment you had a lot of man power that does not show up as corps or army but were there all the same.
  23. Cary the thing is the German rockets were used as stratgic rockets, i thought that is what we were told anyway. I mean we have NO artillery except in the abstract and if you are talking about rockets like Katyushas then I classify them as artillery so why do we have rockets at all. I would change rockets to long range and allow them to only target citys, ports and mines etc, other wise if used in an artillery roll then we need an artillery tech and artillry units. It seems strange to me that the rockets in SC 2 are artillery type and that is suppose to be abstract, so whats the deal?
  24. I am suprised they could fit it in. I thought they looked at putting a much bigger gun in the Sherman and thought they would have a hard time getting anything much larger in the turret, or maybe it had something to do with the turret system itself, been a while since I read up on that aspect. By the way when you follow that link to the book Steal Victory you will see a recommend reading list and one was named "Death Trap." You may disagree with my view on the Sherman but I think a lot of people tend to agree with my point of view.
  25. Cary that is exactly what the Brits and Americans did just prior to D-Day. The vast majority of Allied bombing was given over to Ike to help with the landings. Man there were a couple of VERY unhappy generals over this, both the British and American Air commanders(sorry bad with names) were convinced they could win the war with just air power but of course as we know with hind sight that was not going to happen. They saw it as a total waste of resources and were convinced that Germany was on the verge of surrender just beacuse of their stratigic bombing. When used to directly support ground units it is very questionable how effective it was but when it was used to take out rail and road systems as well as command and control centers it played hell with German reinfocements to the beach area.
